“Outstanding Serviced Apartment Hotel”

Stayed here for a week. Absolutely everything was top notch (except for Hu'u restaurant - see below). Staff very pleasant, everyone greets you in that nice Thai way and always asking if they can help and checking on your experience / satisfaction.
Room was HUGE. Too much for the time being spent but spotlessly clean. Provided two bottles of water each day and refresh towels, plus on arrival there is a small basket of initial food items etc. (I shopped at the 7 Eleven down the street)

I would stay away from the Hu'u restaurant. So-so food, service good (we were the only ones there the night I ate there and it was clear why after the meal was delivered). The Aldo Bistro on the 7th floor is just excellent. Every meal was terrific, good service with great staff and atmosphere. Try to eat outside beside the pool if the weather is ok..nice treat.

The hotel is close to the overhead rapid rail system with good connections to the spotless and well-lit subway system. Don't hesitate to try these...unbelievably cheap and a great way to experience the local atmosphere.

I would definately stay here again.

“Great place - but too rich for me, though..”

The Ascot is one of Bangkok's more exculsive serviced apartments, but I am not sure if I would stay there again.

Pros:
1. Room is nice (we booked a studio & were upgraded to a one-bedroom) if not too large
2. Decor is very modern, all the fittings are new and impressive (including a TV, DVD with surround and a bath plug that took 10 minutes to figure out...)
3. Kitchen is comfortable and well-equipped
4. As a guest, you get free entrance to Cascades, a plush health club on the 6th floor - and they have Les Mills classes ! (this was a huge plus for me...)
5. The pool on the 7th floor is quite pleasant
6. Breakfast is good, but the room itself (Hu'u cafe/nightclub during the day/night) is not so nice for breakfast
7. The doormen are truly amazing - smart, bright and quick, always with a swift but not overdone wai...
8. There is a small minimart in the parking area

Cons:
1. A short walk away from Chong Nonsi BTS station, but a lot of stairs away - this was tough for us with a pram and we ended up taking taxis - took a little longer but no stairs...
2. It felt a little too plush for me :-)
3. There is wifi everywhere, but you have to pay an extortionate ~ 500B a day for access. I think you can get access if you are a patron at the Hu'u
4. Keycard access everywhere (lift, corridors..) makes you wonder why..

A second visit to the Ascott Sathorn. Very good value indeed. Hotel limo picked us up from the airport and whisked us downtown in very good time. Check in smooth and apartment could not be faulted. Spacious and comfortable ,we had a modern kitchen with American size fridge, dishwasher, washing machine ,tumble dryer, microwave, oven etc etc. in fact everything that was a home from home. Good power shower and large bath for each bedroom. Very quiet area of the city although they are building way across the road and this did not cause any problems. The pool area is good and was very popular at the weekend with even a wedding taking place one afternoon. The location is not near any major sites although the skytrain is only 10 mins slow stroll away and taxis are everywhere if you prefer. Don't know if the location would be a bit unexciting for first timers to Bangkok but we liked it as it was an escape from the noise and pollution of the main streets. Make sure you pick up a business card from reception which has a map and directions in Thai for the taxi drivers, some of whom had never heard of the place.
Overall, good value and easy to get to.

Definitely an interesting addition to the debate as to whether a service apartment is better value than hotel, and at the same time with the same amenities.
For the price of 4 star hotel room in Bangkok we got a 700 sq ft one bedroom apartment with b/fast. So that's twice the space for the same money - can't be bad.
Apartment was excellent - think hotel suite with kitchen area as well - and service generally good. Breakfast was unexceptional but very welcome when I had to leave at 6-30am to got to Laem Chabang.
Highlight has be the health club - gym is fabulous with a great range of equipment. There is also a nice pool with a good bar as well.
The location is a bit so so as its a bit of a hike to a skytrain station, but there are some good restaurants around ie Blue Elephant.

4 nites in this serviced apartment. Booked a studio but upgraded
to one bed room (approx 700 sq ft) Room is equipped with big fridge, washing machine/dryer, microwave, full range of kitchen utensils.
Big bathroom

Location is fair. About 6-7 minutes walk to Skytrain station
Not many shops near the hotel (one S&P which is something like a cafe, and one 7-11) Two skytrain stops to river side where you can take a free boat trip to Mandarin Oriental Hotel or Peninsula Hotel for some
nice food Buffet breakfast is good although not as many varieties as
the buffet breakfast in Dusit Thani or Westin

Hotel staffs are attentive and helpful Will come back although may try their other apartments to see whether there is a difference
