“Smelly, small hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2010

I was unfortunate to read all the nice reviews regarding this hotel.

Pros:
1.Inexpensive - 800 baht per room
2.Friendly staff who can wish happy birthdays to customers.
3.Gay friendly as there's lots of gay couples seen.
4.Nice swimming pool

Cons:
1.Rooms are smaller than average
2.Walking distance of 10 -15 mins to nearest Lumpini MRT.
3.Stench from the sewerage even after the cleaning lady went to clean it.
I couldn't sleep the whole night with the windows close because of the stench.
4.No breakfast included
5.Expensive restaurant situated below although its 24 hours.

Conclusion:
This hotel is more for senior citizens , above 60 years old as most of the customers seem to be or someone on a tight budget.

“Good value - BUT it is very gay”

As the title says - I couldn't find much fault with this hotel - especially given the price ! However, the staff (mainly female - & the elderly male 'manager' ) on the front desk wer rather 'detached', bordering on rude at times.

However - I'd also say to families - as another (some time ago) Reviewer here said : this Hotel has started to attract families / st8 couples etc probably due to its value for $ - there are a lot of gays here - & especially outside the Hotel on the street - i.e hustlers / $ boys etc & they're getting worse (both in looks & numbers ! hehehe) So - unless you are, at the very least, gay friendly or have children who you've educated 'openly' - don't say you haven't been warned

“Honour Bookings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2010

I have read other peoples issues with confirmed bookings and then arriving and the Malaysia hotel saying that they are full. It is NOT HARD to manage bookings but this hotel appears top have issues. Changing hotels is a real pain and I wish they would actual become a bit more professional. On the positive side the desk staff are nice and friendly but unfortunately this is overshadowed by their incompetence with their booking system.
I confirmed a week before I arrived (via email) but this seemed to be of no avail!
Do not use their internet – go around the corner (next to the 7-11) and get internet at a fraction of the cost. It is only the principle here – I hate being ripped off by internet charges. Other then that it is an OK budget hotel. I will stay there again and battle the turmoil of “sorry sir we are full”!

“Basic but clean - fantastic value!”

Stayed at the Malaysia Hotel for 7 nights. Rooms are basic but very clean and well maintained - excellent value for money. Reception staff were awesome - very friendly, always smiling and helpful. The coffeshop/restaurant serves authentic Thai food at very cheap prices - and it's not toned-down for Western palates! Pool was small and a bit shabby but when you're paying 800 baht per night, what do you expect?! Have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel - if you're looking for basic, clean, cheap accommodation in an OK location a few mins ride from Silom then this is the place for you. Although it's marketed as a 'gay' hotel in some guides, it's also very 'straight' friendly - although the coffeeshop was quite cruisy late at night (if that's your kinda thing!).

“Great value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2009

This way my first trip to Thailand & I was recommened this hotel by a friend. I was not disappointed. The rooms were large with one double bed & one single. The rooms were basic but that's all I wanted.
The staff were very friendly & didn't mind if I bought someone back to my room. I liked it when you put your key which was on the top of a wooden bottle into a small box & it switched on your lights & air con.
The resturant next door served beautiful meals with beautiful NZ butter. A taste of home. The swimming pool was a welcome relief from the hot air. The location is well situated in central bangkok. Just a 5 minute walk to lumpini underground. The view from the 5th level is good with views looking out across the city.
Next time I go back I will be saying here.
