“NOT for honeymooners; fine for backpackers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

One of our group booked the Old Bangkok Inn because it sounded more authentically Thai than the polished (and quite nice) Chatrium Hotel where we stayed previously, and in a good location. Here's the good and bad:
The good:
1. The staff is very nice. Really want guests to enjoy their stay.
2. Complmentry computers/wifi in room, the computer availability being unusual and appreciated.
The not-so-good
1. The rooms are small.
2. The location is not all that good, tho that depends what one is looking for. We liked the fact it was a half-block from the big political contretemps, which were more Woodstock than Protest.
It is what it is: a fairly cozy, musty, non-elegant, non-gorgeous more B+B than hotel with no facilities except the computer. I didn't have breakfast so couldn't comment on that. If you want fancy, skip it. If you don't want fancy, consider it.

We flew in from NYC and stayed at Old Bangkok upon our first few days in Thailand. This was my second time staying at the Inn, and it was just as lovely as I'd remembered. Nantiya and her staff are thorough and gracious. The breakfasts are amazing, and each day a small gift is found in the room that is local to Thailand. On our honeymoon trip, Nantiya worked in tandem with my mother to arrange a beautiful welcome display for us replete with an incredible lotus flower arrangement, champagne, and a welcome note from my parents, as well as handmade soaps from Nantiya.
We can't recommend Old Bangkok enough!

Very nice room, very friendly and helpful family, great location within 20 minute walk or 40-50 baht tuk-tuk to Khao San Road, Grand Palace, Golden Mount, Phra Arthit boat station, kick-boxing stadium, etc. It was extra special for us since there was a grand protest with nice free food happening a few feet away from the inn. Lemongrass liquid soap in the bathroom is a bonus! Little expensive but worth it nevertheless.

Room Tip: Lemongrass room was awesome

A few steps from 50000 protestors at Democracy Monument, once we stepped over the threshold at this gorgeous hotel we were cushioned and cosseted, and the peace and quiet was overwhelming.

The Lotus Family suite was divine - wonderful nook up a ladder for the kids; amazing outside shower and bath; and a main bedroom to die for.

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Not cheap - but worth every baht.

And as for the breakfast!?! Extraordinary.

I have stayed in the Old Bangkok Inn on two different occasions and both times have had a fantastic time. The rooms are great, I have stayed in the Lemongrass and orchid rooms, both were really individual and catered for our needs. The choice during breakfast is incredible and would recommend the fruit platter and the coconut pancakes! Brilliant location and host, I would definitely be returning soon.

We stayed for 3 nights and took the stay for 3 pay for 2 nights deal which was very reasonable tariff for the honeymoon suite and fantastic breakfast. All the little touches, the hand painted walls, the rose entwined wire roses around the room. the beautiful furniture and sleep on a raised floor with just a mattress. Being taller then most Asian people caused us a few head bumps and the steps were steep so not for people with mobility issues. the outdoor bath and shower were wonderful to cool down after a sweaty day with mosaics and stained glass adding to the atmosphere. The breakfast fruit platter was the best fruit we had all trip and i had to fight my hubby for it and he doesn't eat fruit! great place if u are after a more authentic thai experience especially for romantics in the rose suite

Room Tip: get one with outdoor space/shower

We (my husband and I) were blown away by the warmth and hospitality of the people who run this place. We loved the cosy little room with the lovely sitout. The location is brilliant as many of the sights are just a short walk away and yet the Inn is far away enough to be pretty quiet during the night. Choosing this place for the end of our otherwise hectic trip turned out to be a great decision. We were pampered during our stay, from the cute little elephant key ring on our bed to the gorgeous fresh breakfast, to allowing us to use the room beyond our check out time. We were really happy with our experience and recommend it for anyone travelling to Bangkok!
