This hole in the wall, poor excuse for an Inn and equally bad customer service at the front desk makes me not want to trust Sawasdee hotels again. This was our last stop on our Thailand trip and UGH the room was not ready even though we arrived at 5pm. We asked to the front desk to see what the room looked like...Small, dirty, old not worth the money. We complained to the front desk and were told they couldn't do anything about it. Asked to speak to the manager on duty and not only was he not there but not available by phone. We canceled the reservation and stayed at another place on the next street over for less money and with quality.

Room Tip: Find an alternative place to stay. You will be happy you did.

I just came back from Bangkok, I stayed in that dirty hole for few days and it was the worse place i ever stayed in. my room walls were dirty in some black grease, and the so call bathroom 2 by 2 was terrible. the mini bar was away too expensive, the hotel staff were not very friendly and didnt really care about their guests. breakfast was the worse thing i ever ate.
i wouldnt stay in that hole-in-the-wall for free!! that scam filthty place gives a bad name to thailand hospitalety!! i wouldnt even give this place a quater star! . the only good thing about this location is the travel agency next door to the hotel called NICE PLACE TOUR & TRAVEL , great helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff and great prices. you can leave your extra luggage with them at no charge for the whole day if you want to visit the city without carry it on yourself. I highly recommend this travel place.
but stay away from that hole-in-a-wall hotel.

Room Tip: Noisy in every room you take, there is a Disco or some club next door that plays horrible music unti...

The big plus for this inn it's location, it's not directly on Khaosan Road, but at the top end and just around the corner 50m or so. It's also walking distance to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho and served as a brilliant base for us for 3 nights.

I'd liken it to a run-down verison of a travelodge in the UK so how some people on here gave it 5 stars i'll never know, but i'm giving it a 4 because in it's defense, it was clean, staff were friendly enough and room had good aircon. but in all honesty, 2.5 of my 4 is down to its location mainly.

This hotel is very loud at night. but this is because this whole area of bangkok is very loud at night, if you are not prepared to be too tired/too drunk to sleep though banging music until approx 2/3am every day then this is not the area of the city for you.

there are about half a dozen of these 'sawasdee' properties along khaosan road and they all pretty much of a muchness, i can only comment on this one though, and you could definatly do a lot worse around this part of town

NB: it costs £15 a night, which is not to be sniffed at

We booked the Sawasdee Banglamphu Inn just because we needed a room to shower before leaving for the airport and a late night flight and we could not keep our room on Prah Athit. When we arrived there, they sent us to the Sawasdee Khaosan Inn - claiming the aircon was broken and that this hotel should be better.

No problems checking in although we did not book the hotel. 500 baht fee for the key for which we did not get a receipt.

The hotel is very worn and grimy but the room, linen and towels seemed clean. Showering was a problem though - we nearly had to stand in the toilet or in the room because the bathroom was very, very small. There is a fridge in the room stocked with soft drinks and beer.

We checked out again after showering and had deposit back without any problems.

Would never stay there...

This hotel is in the heart of all the action of Bangkok; therefore, it's loud. It's walking distance to nearby Grand Palace and nightlife. We only stayed in Bangkok for 2 nights and planned to not be at the hotel much at all. That being said, all we cared about was a bed to sleep in, A/C, and close to everything. The hotel itself is fairly run down. We got complimentary American breakfast each morning. Just depends what you want, we decided to spend our money in Chiang Mai and the islands instead.

My friend and I purchased online travel vouchers for our trip to bangkok and were given 3 choices for hotel. We had initially wanted to get Ecotel Bangkok but were told that it was full thus we settled for our second choice, which was Sawasdee Khaosan. I started feeling jumpy after reading the reviews but had no choice due to restrictions from our travel voucher.

So we arrived at the hotel around 7pm and immediately witnessed a couple who wanted to check out immediately and they got into a heated argument because the couple refused to pay for the extra day charge unsatisfactory room and there were talk of calling the police on both sides. My friend and I were stunned and we quietly waited in a corner until the receptionist could serve us.

The receptionist checked for our booking but couldn't find it. Therefore the room type we requested was not available and we were instead offered single rooms. However, after we came back after a short walk around the area we were offered a deluxe double room because somebody cancelled.

The place is...really rundown I must say. The corridors and staircase look like scenes from hongkong movies depicting Kowloon. Inside the room, it is better and there are signs that the place has been cleaned but still it is definitely a far far far far cry (whimper) away from the standards of Ecotel, which made me wonder why the two were placed in the same category in our travel voucher.

The experience has made me determined to spend a little more on accommodation for my next trip and stay somewhere decent.

Room Tip: If you really care about accommodation, go somewhere else!
