“Absolutly 4 star!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2007

Stayed at the Majestic Grande for 4 night at the beginning of June '07 and had a lovely stay. The
staff all spoke English very well. The room was lovely and with plenty of space even though it was
their smallest room type (Grand Superior), it had all from a very nice bathroom with a tub, pleanty
of cupboard space, a safe, minibar and WIFI Internet. Breakfast was great, the pool OK and the
Italian restaurant at the lobby served a wonderful dinner. The hotel is in Soi 2 inbetween Nana and Ploen Chit
Skytrain stations just 2 stops from Siam Square with all the lovely shopping malls. I can highly
recommend this hotel, its just next to the JW Marriott, but at over half the price for the same
standard.
I booked trough [--] and saved a bit extra this was.

Attending a trade show for six days, I was booked into the Majestic Grande by my work. I arrived fairly late in the evening and was booked in swiftly by reception and ushered to a corner room that was more than large enough.

The room was clean and neat and after putting my clothes away the king size bed proved to be very comfortable.

In terms of dining, breakfast downstairs was good - nothing extrordinary but more than adequate. The restaurant however was a bit hit and miss. We dined there on a couple of occasions and their noveau fusion style dishes was exceptional one night and not so good the next.

A definite plus for the hotel was their staff who were always friendly and punctual. The head doorman adressed us by our first names when coming or going which was a nice touch. The doormen were always able to get cabs for us quickly as well as ensure they had their meters turned on.

The pool facilities were good as well - never many people in there and great after a long day at the convention centre.

One downside was the wireless internet access. Apart from being rather expensive it was frequently not working.

All in all when I return to Bangkok for either work or pleasure I'd be happy to stay again.

  • Liked — good sized room and great location
  • Disliked — expensive and intermittent internet and only two lifts.

We booked into the Majestic Grande after reading reviews on this site and on the basis that it was a "boutique" hotel (as the hotel claims). It was basically a bulk standard hotel with very little character. The rooms were very corporate, and the breakfasts were shocking for a hotel in this range; there wasn't much choice and most of the food was cold. The staff were were ok, and the pool was quite nice, but I wouldn't stay here again; there are many other hotels in this price range which are smaller, better value or better loacted. Very disappointed

2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2007

I have stayed at pretty much every 4 and 5 star hotel in Bangkok over the last 5 years. From the top end of town such as the Peninsula, Oriental, Conrad, Sheraton Grande, Marriott to the 4 star choices such as the Westin, Royal Orchid Sheraton, Davis Hotel etc.. I was quite taken aback when I checked Trip Advisor and discovered the Majestic Grande in the top 10 - a hotel I knew nothing of!

So with that in mind, I spent 3 nights here in late April as a stopover.

First the good. I can only reiterate what others have said. The main good point of this hotel is the location which is absolutely prime. The sky train is an easy walk, the shopping centre next door is great for McDonalds, Starbucks and a Deli, there is a plethora of good tailors in the nearby Soi 4. It is really one of the best locations you can be in.

Now the bad / could be better.

Room size. The standard room size is around 25 square meters which is absolutely TINY for Bangkok. For two people this is a nightmare. These rooms are around half the size of what you get at the Davis Hotel, Marriott, Sheraton etc. I inspected the standard room and then gladly spent 1,200 Bt to upgrade to the Deluxe room. The Deluxe room is MUCH more pleasant at around 45 square meters.

Lifts. I have never had such long waits for a lift in a Bangkok hotel. You can quite seriously be waiting for 10 minutes for the lift to come. And then when it does it stops on every floor, even after the lift is full. Very very frustrating.

Service. The service at the Majestic Grande is a very long way short of most 4 and 5 sta Bangkok hotel. The front desk staff seem disorganised and generally unfriendly. The concierge was borderline useless. I asked him to help me find a tailor and he said "go upstairs and use the internet I don't know". Unacceptable. The door staff stand around yet most of the time do not open the door for you when entering/exiting the hotel. There were definitely some positive service experiences, but in Bangkok, I do not expect to have had so many negative service experiences. This would be the worst service I have experienced in a Bangkok 4-5 star hotel.

Taxis. You cannot ask the concierge/valet to get you a normal taxi. There seems to be an arrangement between the hotel and the taxis that lurk around the entrance. These taxis will gladly charge you 3 times the metered fare with the hotel's blessing. To get a normal taxi you must walk up the soi to Sukhumvit Road and hail a cab in the street. To get to the airport we were ridiculously overcharged by a "friend" of the hotel valet. The valet point blank refused to get us a normal taxi, so we had no choice but to go with the friend and his limo. Every other hotel in Bangkok I have been to will gladly find you a street cab if you refuse the limosine.

CONCLUSION: You get what you pay for. After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor I was expecting a fantastic hotel. I think these reviews are written by people who do not know Bangkok. They see a new and shiny hotel in a great location and think it is the best thing in the world. When in reality, strip away the location, and this hotel would have no real redeeming features by Bangkok standards. The Deluxe room is nice, but it costs a lot more, and the hotel is not good value factoring in the upgrade. There is much better value elsewhere such as the Davis Hotel. My recommendation is to stay here if you are budget focused, and set your expectations accordingly. This is a cheap hotel with some of the worst service I have experienced and I will not be back. You'll find me at the Davis Hotel for something cheap, or the Sheraton Grande for 5 star.

If you want a full service, upscale hotel in a good central downtown Bangkok location, but are looking to pay less than $100/night, this is a nice choice. Not a 5*, but a solid 3.5 to 4* class hotel, it also costs about 60% of what the nearby 5* places like the J.W. Marriott and Plaza Athenee cost. It's right next door to the Ploenchit shopping center, with a good market and several good restaurants, and directly across the street from the Marriott. Be aware that this place is directly in the midst of Bangkok's notorious nightlife district, so if that is a strong plus, or a strong minus for you, be sure you are aware of this going in. It is also a roughly 250 meter walk to the Ploenchit BTS station.

The rooms are almost as nice as the J.W. Marriott across the street, but a bit smaller. The pool and health club are OK, but nothing special. Restaurants are good, and a range of other choices are just a short walk away in the Ploenchit center or the Marriott. Service is not up to the level of the Marriott across the street, but the cost is much less as well. The Breakfast buffet was consistently excellent.

We stayed at the majestic grande for three nights at the beginning of may. The hotel is on a little side street off a busy road but we didnt hear any noise from outside at all. The room was a nice size with a big tv and nice bathroom.
The best thing about staying at this hotel has got to be the fact that its so near to the sky train which is so cheap and easy to use (we used it to get to the main shopping area mbk centre and also to get to the grande palace and then a cheap boat ride). The pool at the hotel is very small which is a shame, but there are steam rooms and a jacuzzi which is nice. Breakfast at the hotel was good with a wide choice. If you want to get around cheaply this hotel is in the perfect place.

I stayed ten days in the Majestic Grande Bangkok in April 2007. The hotel is quite new. The room are small for Asian standard but they are clean, well equipped and quiet despite being very close to the motorway. The location of the hotel is OK. You got many resto around, JW Marriot in a walking distance, BTS very close too. For night entertainment, very close to many places. The italian restaurant in lobby is ok, bit over priced though. But service is very good. The number of dishes also bit limited. No smoking area. The restaurant on 7th floor is a bit disapointing. Buffets are very weak and quality of food as well. The breakfast is so so too. The swimming pool is ridiculous. Dont even think about it. The Gym is also very poor.
Coming back to the room, bathroom are nice, quite large too. Very Clean. Internet wifi works also well.
I had a very pleasant stay in this hotel until the day I broke a wine glass in my room. This thing happens right ? I stayed about 10 days, took almost all my dinners there, plus drink and so on. I was not expected anything about this broken glass. I was wrong, I receive a note the following day asking me to call the duty manager regarding this broken glass. The guy asked me to pay a ridicoulous amount for it (around 300-400 bath if i recall well). I had to spend about more than 10 minutes on the phone, trying to explain that it was an accident and I was not prepared to pay this amount for it. I could easily steal a glass in the restau to replace it ! Anyway, this guy tries and tries again, offering me discount for the price of this glass. At the end, i refused to pay anything. His attitude was arrogant. In the first place I would have not mind pay for it, but his attitude pissed me off. And I also found cheap the fact to make me pay for this when i had spent more than $2,000 during my stay.
So ok, very nice hotel. But Cheap Management.
