I just came across some photos of our stay in Bangkok, Railay, Ko Phi Phi, etc. which was just days before the tsunami. Some of the best memories of Bangkok are of our stay at the Ibrik. While there are cheaper places to say (our friends stayed elsewhere and wished they hadn’t) Bangkok is hectic and this was a fantastic place to wake up and come back and relax each day. I liked the convenient ferry across the river to the heart of Bangkok and the nice restaurants surrounding the resort. The woman who runs the place was incredibly helpful and sweet (as were most of the Thai people).
The rooms were a dream, exactly as you imagine when checking them out online. The deck over the river was a really nice touch to our morning breakfast (which was great), seriously...right over the river. We were lucky to have front row seats to the annual parade of lights where boats dress up and float past on the river. Friends came and joined us to watch the spectacle. We didn't expect this to be such a romantic time, it really made our stay in Bangkok even more incredible.
The only downfall is that it's hard to find. I recommend having the car pick you up at the airport if you can. Every time we tried to taxi back (do NOT try this if you are less than sober!) the driver tried to dump us somewhere random out of frustration. Make sure you have the resort phone number on you and directions/map to the hotel every time you leave. Now that I look back it kind of added to the excitement of Bangkok, but at the time it was a little frustrating.
I’ve stayed in some pretty spectacular hotels, but I just can't say enough nice things about this place. We were in Thailand for an adventure, not pampering, but we LOVED it!
