“Cheap and not so cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

My room instantly made me think of prison...except they get a tv. No complaints for the price and the largish desk was handy but no power points in my room, hmmm. Wifi is now sixty baht a day, which compares a hell of a lot better to most places given I only paid 180 baht.

Room Tip: Try to go higher and further back from the road if possible

Located within walking distance to khao san (2 min) but without the noise. We stayed in room 305 - double fan with private bathroom for 450b. It was very basic, with a bed and small table in the large room. We liked that the window could open wide with built in mosquito net so we could leave them open at night. Although we didn't have a view , it allowed us to get some airflow through the room. Bedding clean, with a bottom sheet and blanket provided. Bathroom clean with reasonably high pressured shower (a rarity). Very quiet at night with our room facing out the back of the building. Did have to walk through what appears to be the cleaners living spaces etc to get up the stairs but not a big deal. Overall very basic but clean and comfortable relative to price.

This place is bare bones, good value, no frills, perfect for the penny pinching backpacker. We started and ended our tour of Asia in Bangkok and stayed here each time. The staff are pretty friendly and have good English. The rooms are basic but comfy enough and work out to around $4 per person if you share a twin or double. Security seems good.
Aside from the price the location is probably the deciding factor with this place. Near enough to the backpacker amenities but far enough away from the Kho San road that you can avoid it if you want to.

Room Tip: It's worth specifying if you would like a window

The room price accounts for three of the four stars. The fourth one is for no roaches. People are right if they say that the staff wasn´t too friendly. ring your own lock, so you can lock your door from the outside while you are gone. One big minus: Wifi is 80 Baht per day extra, and they started to cut off electricity between four and five p.m. (they say its for "the environment, but I guess it´s rather for their wallet).

Room Tip: Get one towards the backyard (but be careful of the restaurant exhaustion pipe). The front is noisy...

We used Bangkok as a hub to travel around se Asia, the GH the cheapest and best value for money that we came across. The location is a close Khao san but without the noise and the ferry pier and bus stops are short walks away.
A lot of ppl say that the staff are rude but i dealt with many of them and they all had time to answer our questions keeping in mind it’s a budget GH and not a hotel).
Considering the price your paying the place is clean and bed bug free and has many different options depending on your budget.
All in all a solid place…

Room Tip: ask for the private rooms without air con on the 3rd floor away from the road that are a little quie...

This place could be great if the staff was friendly. The rooms are very basic and good value for the money you are spending. However, it is very clear that the staff does not care about you. The daytime staff is a bit better than the 2 very unfriendly guys who work night shift. The rooms are fairly clean and I was never bothered by noise. If you are a budget traveler who is only looking for a cheap no frills room, this could be a good option for you.

Stayed there 7 nights, and all was fine more or less, except the few times we had to deal with the staff... You really feel like you deal with idiots that don't give a s*** about you. Too bad for what could be a good place to stay. Bed was big and comfortable, shower working good enough, aircond, fan , room big enough and cheap for bangkok. We've had a few bites on the body on the last days, they were small but pretty itchy... bed bugs? not sure, if that was they were small... We went back in Bangkok and didn't stay there again. You can find same or better really close by.

The street is full of nice little local bars, not to miss. I think this area is great for backpacking accomodation, better than Khao San Rd, way too touristy. Check next doors and this hotel, compare, and you'll find your perfect accomodation.

Room Tip: Try to get the first or 2nd floor if you don't like going up the stairs, ours war 4th floor, goi...
