My husband and I stayed at Buddy Lodge twice during our holiday in SE Asia. 4 nights the first time and 3 nights the second time. I'm a regular visitor to Bangkok because my mother's family is actually from the Banglamphu area and I have stayed in various hotels in this area.
The first stay our room was on the 6th floor away from Khao San road and it was pretty quiet. Our second stay was on the 5th floor nearer to the Khao San road side of the hotel and it was certainly a lot noisier but it's also something to be expected staying in an area like Khao San.
The rooms we had were both nice and clean and big - with enough space to put away your clothes (something not too common amongst hotels in this area) and the bathroom was great too. A lot of other hotels in this area have frosted glass doors which are not the most ideal when you want a little privacy. You also have an extra door to close between the entrance of the room and where the bed is that helps block out additional noise from your neighbours or housekeeping. Our first room didn't have a mosquito net and I'd recommend the management look into assuring that all rooms have a mosquito net.
One thing lacking in the rooms and even the hotel is an iron! We were in Bangkok for our wedding dinner and my husband wanted to iron his shirt. We didn't have an iron in the room but neither was there one available on the premises. The English manager was extremely apologetic and gave us various alternative options.
The pool is wonderful and looks just like the photos online. Although I'm not sure if all the people using it are from the Buddy group hotels/ hostels, as I saw the same group of people that had been using the pool enter a different hotel on Rambuttri road with their own towels over their shoulders.
The breakfast at Mulligan's Irish bar is good - a little limited food wise but the coffee is GREAT, I'm always a little doubtful with having a coffee in Thailand because 8 times out of 10 it's awful.
The Irish pub (Mulligan's) that serves breakfast in the morning is a great place to hang out at night. It's very popular with Thais and I had a blast hanging out with my Thai cousins.
We also ate at Khinlom Chomsaphan - which I didn't know had been bought by the Buddy group until I arrived at the restaurant. The food and service there was good too and had great views of the Rama VIII Bridge.
Finally a word about the staff - The staff are extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. Their command of English is great and I really believe that they made our stay more enjoyable. My experience in many Thai hotels being an Asian looking girl with a white husband is that the staff would normally direct themselves towards my husband only and ignore the fact I said something or was there - this was not the case at Buddy Lodge. Any problems we had, were solved quickly and when I was asking one man at reception about how to get to a certain restaurant - he was kind enough to write the precise instructions in Thai to give to the taxi driver.
I'll definitely stay here again when I'm in Bangkok next year!

Thank you for staying at our hotel twice during your recent vacation to Thailand, it was a real pleasure meeting you both during your stay.
We really appreciate the kind words expressed in your Trip Advisor review. It is always nice to learn that one of our guests left having had such a positive experience at our hotel.
Thank you for mentioning Khinlom Chom Saphan. This restaurant is only a few minutes by taxi from the hotel and is a perfect experience for anyone who wishes to try authentic Thai food beside a beautiful riverfront setting.
We hope to see you again the next time you return to see you family in Thailand.
