We walked there quite easily (about 4 mins) from the National Stadium BTS station. The guided tour lasted about 35 mins and was educational and interesting. Eg the “mouse house” which served like a TV. The teak wood house and its interior design was gorgeous. It’s a pity we could not take photos. Entrance was 100 baht per adult and 50 baht per student.

I've been to Bangkok twice. I've been to the Jim Thompson House each time. The first time, my friends dragged me kicking and screaming. I really wasn't that excited to see some old house owned by a guy I had barely heard of. However, after a long slog through hot Bangkok, the house was a refreshing break from the loud city. If you have any interest in Thai architecture, Buddhist imagery, Thai silk or "the way things used to be," this is worth a visit. The tour lasts about 40 minutes and you get a good feeling for what it must have been like to be an expat in Thailand in the 50's. Tours are available in many languages. The grounds are small, but very peaceful. There is also a Jim Thompson store selling whatever sorts of silk or JT branded stuff you may need. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't buy just plain silk from there. There is also an excellent cafe which serves a killer lychee blended drink and also some very good albeit pricey Thai food.

The second time, I brought my girlfriend. She really liked it.

Oh, don't miss the freshwater stingray by the sign in desk.

We have been to Bangkok very many times, but I never tire of visiting this spot, an oasis of calm in the frenetic activity of Bangkok. The entry cost is not excessive and the fact that this goes to the Bangkok School for the Blind should stop anybody complaining, surely.

The architecture of the house, consisting of a number of antique buildings from around the country being brought together in this spot, is remarkable and the contents beautiful. Admission is by guided tour, though you are free to wander around the gardens and ground floor.

All round, a wonderful, inspiring building and I look forward to going back next time we are in Bangkok.

We visited this place on our last day in Bangkok and found the place extremley interesting.

We didn't really know who this guy was and found the guided tour very interesting and endearing. We arrived just after 9am in the morning, from getting the Sky train to Siam and walked 5 minutes to it. It is in abit of an ususal location as it is off down a side street, but you have to remember that Bangkok has been built up around it!

We didn't have to wait long at all for a tour, and found the teak buildings - 6 in all - very beautiful. We found out that he was the first person to export the Thai silk to America, and found that his disappearence also intriging.

This is a little hideaway not to be missed for some cultural enlightenment!

I've been here several times, once alone and then with out-of-town guests. It's like stepping back into time and visiting a home and museum in one. The mysterious disappearance of silk trader Jim Thompson also adds extra dimension to the tour. Very beautiful, lush property. An exquisite experience.
