“Great Thai food with a view to the river”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Although not easy to find, this place is worth the effort. The waiters were friendly, the food was great (my best Pad Thai during our almost a week long stay in Thailand) and expensive at all, the atmosphere cozy. Add the view to the river on top of that, and it's a great experience.

“Great food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

After the walk from the ferry stop to get here.... which was an event in itself, come on, its all part of the Bangkok experience.. we were hoping the end result would be worth it and it was.. we were welcomed at the door, slipped our shoes off (part of Steve’s relaxed rules) and walked on to the balcony to our table..

What a relaxing place to spend lunch…, service was great and the food was even better..

We settled back with a deserved cold beer and watched the activity on the river..

Would definitely head back here for another meal

“Must visit! Worth your time and money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We found this restaurant because of trip advisor and I must say it deserves its ranking. This was our first stop after arriving to our hotel and it was a lovely surprise. PLEASE NOTE that this is a local restaurant, amazing flavours in a local venue. If you're a foodie like me you will love it. Don't expect a tablecloth restaurant. Steve's cafe doesn't need any, it is clean and welcoming, with a terrace overlooking the river.

How to get there: I got there by boat and had to walk about three minutes from the pier to the restaurant. The path looks sketchy and dirty but thats just the neighborhood. You have to walk through a small path that is made up of little wooden houses. The people were nice and instructed us to keep on walking until we saw the place.

Food: Flavors are great, menu is quite extense and has pictures, which is actually helpful for people who aren't very familiar with thai food. A cool refreshing drink or a nice beer, view of the sunset and really great local food. Relaxed and nice ambiance. Really recommend it, really good first impression.

Prices are good! Not a rip off, which can happen in some places. I also know this place is good because it was packed, not only with tourists but most of them were locals. The owner was creative enough to set a small thai table for us (3) in the deck, very nice man, helpful with a great disposition.
Would love to return!

“Great find on the river with yummy food and awesome staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We called late after reading reviews on Tripadvisor to check it was still open (luckily it was!) and we weren't disappointed. The location is perfect - tranquil setting on the river with great views (and catfish as others have mentioned). The ambience, delicious food, attentive but not pushy staff and overall experience made it the best dining experience we had in our three weeks in Thailand. Short tuk tuk from the craziness of Khao San Road and well worth it. Go and try it! We only wish we found it sooner.

“Hidden gem along the Chao Praya river”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

Just getting here is an adventure by itself. Make sure you bring a map or your iPhone to show the taxi driver, even better, bring the phone and have call the restaurant from the cab and tell them to give your driver directions. As you arrive you go thru a residential neighbourhood and it looks like there is nothing happening there. You finally arrive to what looks like the parking lot of a temple and that is as far as your taxi will make it, you then have to walk a small alley for about 100 meters and you finally arrive at the restaurant, then wham! You're there on this beautiful open terrace overlooking the river with a breath taking view.

Me and GF where there on our last night in Bangkok and we could have not possibly asked for better, we are suckers for spicy Thai food and god did we get spoiled. We had curry, fish, prawns, we just went crazy on the menu.

It is true some of the staff had a bit of an issue with English but the owner, Steve I presume, was present and came to our table and took the time to suggest us some dishes and we didn't feel the language barrier undermined our experience plus we left late and they sent two of the waiters with us to walk us back to the main street where they made sure we got onto a cab and found our way back to the hotel safely, just a nice touch.

I think this place would suit perfectly for any type of occasion and I can't wait to return on my next trip to Thailand.
