“Gorgous Hotel”

Davis Bangkok

May 20, 2008

Our stay the hotel was for three night in late May 2008, at the end of our honeymoon. Our first time to Bangkok as well

Our room was lovely, clean, nice sized with a great bathroom. Our room had a mini kitchen, including microwave. The room had everything we needed including scales which are so handy after doing alot of shopping and you are going to the airport.

Breakfast was nice and they had a good selection. But there are a couple of supermarkets across the street. A good selection of food

We walked to the skytrain and it is a about a 1 km, but an interesting walk. Sky train is airconditoned and you can get around for the day for 140baht.

Our only issue was with the bell boy, if you were not street smart, then you could get yourself on the trip around the jewellery and tailor shops. He wanted us to go with his friend (taxi on a meter, which is waiting down the street), which we did but only to MBK much to his disappointment of trying to get us to shop with him for a flat fee of 100 baht, where ever he wanted to take us!! am thinking they are all on kick backs but we were not sure. They were not pushy but we were quite firm as well. And made sure he had us on the meter to MBK

Make sure you always have the taxi use a meter, and dont believe anyone who comes up to you on the street. The palace supplies you with appropriate clothing if you need it, and they are open most days except certain holidays. Also the temples are open all day as well... we had people approach us alot but were quite firm and they seem to go away. Just becareful and trust your instincts.

And finally we loved the night bazaar, all the stalls had different stuff and we went back most nights after going to other markets. Didn't mind MBK but all the shops seemed a bit too similar. The Emporium down the street seemed OK.

“Lovely hotel in nice quiet location”

Davis Bangkok

May 19, 2008

I stayed at the Davis hotel for 2 nights and thought that it was fantastic. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. We stayed in the corner wing so there you had to walk outside and along the street to the main hotel to get to the pool but I didn't find this a problem.

The pool was smallish but lovely and the gym was fantastic.

Breakfast was good with a big choice. We had lunch one day by the pool and it was delicious and quiet reasonable.

Location suited us as it was out of the main hustle and bustle but the skytrain was only a 15 minute walk away. The hotel ran a complimentary tuk tik to the skytrain.

We recommended this hotel to family recently and they loved it.

We booked the Davis hotel based on previous reviews on this site and others and I have to admit that I was more than happy. The staff are really lovely. When we arrived at the hotel & were shown to our rooms I discovered that my husband and I had been given two single beds, even though I had specifically requested a room with a king bed. The porter called reception for us to request room change and waited with us discussing all the sites that we could/should do & see which was very helpful. Within 10 minutes the hotel had us in another room with a king bed. We found the breakfast buffet to be just the thing to start our days with.

I don't recommend booking a tour through the tour desk in the lobby though. We arranged a floating market & river Kwai tour as these were the two things that we really wanted to do while in Bangkok. We paid a premium as it was a private tour, just the four of us (two couples) with no other tourists. We were very disappointed as we also visited a salt farm, wood carvers and coconut sugar making which are things that we had no interest in seeing.

Because of these additional stops we were only allowed 30 minutes at the floating markets and 1 hr at the river Kwai to have lunch (which was just horrible) and to walk along the bridge. We did lodge a letter of complaint with the travel company as trip was not what we had paid for. I wouldn't have minded one of these stops only, especially the wood carvers as this was excellent, but the way things were we didn't even have enough time to do any shopping at the markets.

But apart from that we found the location of the hotel pretty good, there is a great little restaurant/bar on a side street opposite the hotel that has fantastic thai food (I loved their green curry) and good range. There is a mini mart also on this street so very convenient. The Emporium shopping complex down the road is also very good, we found some really good bargains there. My husband & I walked down here and did not find the walk too far. Also the station for the sky train is near the Emporium so you can easily hop on that to go to the other parts of Bangkok.

In the mornings if you turn left out of the hotel and walk down the road you will find all the street food stalls, so if you are not happy with the hotels breakfast fare you could always go looking for something else. Also McDonalds if you are inclined.

We will definately stay in this hotel the next time we are in Bangkok.

“great hotel, bad location”

Davis Bangkok

We stayed at The Davis, Bangkok, for 2 nights. (April 08) The hotel was great, staff were very helpful and very attentive, rooms were really good! We stayed in a deluxe designer room, which was just enough for our requirements. The only thing i would say that it is in the wrong area,
too far away from the center of bangkok. But that is the only fault i can find with it. I think it is aimed at more the business clientelle, rather than the holiday market, but still a great hotel.

I booked The Davis after reading several positive reviews on Trip Advisor. It was my first trip to Bangkok and I had heard lots of horror stories about travellers booking what looked like a safe bet on the internet only to find that the room was not as advertised or was dirty or noisy or in a poor location or all of the above. The Davis cerrtainly lives up to it's billing. I loved it so much that I returned twice after my initial stay. When I turned up late in the day on my final visit I was greeted warmly as a returning guest and upgraded to a superior room. Davis rooms are attractively appointed and spotless. The staff are friendly, professional, helpful. The buffet breakfasts are delicious and fresh. And at the end of a hot, humid day of sightseeing, I really appreciated a dip in one of the two outdoor swimming pools.
