I reviewed this place after a visit in March, 2012. I gave it 4 stars but complained about lackadaisical staff attitudes, and the nagging about their many rules. My wife and I stayed again in late December. What's changed?
Well, for one thing, effective October 1, they stopped including breakfast in the room rate. The breakfast they sell isn't unreasonably priced; two eggs (fried, scrambled or in an omlet) with a bit of sausage, plus coffee is just 70 baht, but multiply that by two people and the extra cost of 140 baht on top of 963 for an a/c ensuite room results in about a 15% increase in the cost of staying here.
The service orientation of the staff hasn't improved. This a.m. I watched two people, new to the hotel, trying to puzzle out breakfast., They looked at the fruit, bread and coffee which were displayed. They were obviously in doubt about what the deal was. The two staff members present said nothing to them; they were not offered the menu which shows that eggs or rice soup are also available. They ended up just having fruit and coffee.
Also this a.m. when we left before 09:00 we hung the "Please Clean Room" thing on the door. We returned 5 1/2 hours later. The room hadn't been touched.
I kinda doubt we'll stay here again.
