While the hotel in general, the room, and the breakfasts met my expectations, the service was so poor as to be ridiculous. In spite of there frequently being four unoccupied staff members behind the desk, it was difficult to get anyone to help me. The only time someone seemed glad to see me was when I checked out! Requests for information that a concierge might normally provide were met with shrugs and silence. Directing me to the nearest tourist information center would have been too much to ask?

Also, why there is a smarmy taxi hawker at the door masquerading as a concierge is beyond me. This man assaulting guests coming and going trying to rip them off with overpriced taxis when a metered cab is available for a tenth the price just outside the door.

We loved staying at Viengtai Hotel. It is one street back from Koah San Rd in a much quieter, but really lovely street. A really superb location (I hated the city centre). The breakfast was great, staff fantastic and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. We were able to check in at 9am and check out isn't until 12noon. We could also leave our bags in a secure area. There are lots of massage places, internet, food places, clothing stalls just outside - and a sensational travel agent (maybe Pattaya Travel?). There is also a pool at the hotel (although we didn't use it). Air-con was great, beds were great, everything great. A great start to our trip ! Highly recommended.
