“Visited lobby to meet tour guide for Urban Adventure Tuk Tuk tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013 via mobile

Whilst we didn't stay at hotel we spent an hour in lobby of hotel on our 1st day waiting to meet our guide for Urban Adventures Tuk Tuk guide. It was very clean with nice comfortable seating in lobby to relax on. the concierge service was friendly when we asked were bathrooms were.

The tourism shop next to hotel reception whilst helpful did charge me 100 baht for a tourist map which I'm sure should've been for free!!

This hotel is on a fantastic authentic Thai street (Rambutri Street) full of character, restaurants & street stalls. Great street to wander down & explore!

Hmm maybe our fault for not checking the calendar as it turned out to be New Year. Virtually trapped inside the hotel for the entire weekend unless we were prepared to get a bucket of water thrown over us! Not sure if the noise is always so bad but our room overlooked the noisiest open air nightclub so sleep was somewhat difficult. No tea and coffee making facilities, very drab bedrooms and bathrooms, could certainly do with a lick of paint. On the plus side the pool was great (although chock full of chlorine so don't open your eyes underwater!) and the breakfast was excellent. The very helpful concierge led us out the back of the hotel through the alleys to escape getting our suitcases drenched on the way back to the airport - phew.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms overlooking the street.

Dear Tina W.

Thank you for writing your reply. We feel sorry that you were unaware of the Songkran festivity within our hotel area. We apologize for a sleep deprivation caused by street noises and hope our staff had informed you about the quieter rooms facing our pool and garden.
Other comments about our room are helpful. We hope to have another chance to welcome you back in the future.

Sincerely Yours,
The Management

My friend recommended this hotel and i have no regret! I went there in songkran day and they give a gun water for free so we can be part of songkran. Best rate and it's all worth it...nice receptionist, speak english fluently..

Stayed here while traveling solo in Bangkok. The rooms are a bit antiquated but clean and very roomy. My room was on the back side of the building and offered protection from the noise on Rambuttri road when I was ready to sleep.

I got a great price on a discount hotel site (40/nt) and my room had a queen bed, mini fridge with soda, water and beer (as well as two free bottles of water in the room). There are also basic snacks for sale in the room.

The bathroom was clean and the water pressure in the shower was very good. There was a tiny bit of mold in the shower. My only complaint is that the outdated AC did not get as cold as I would have liked, which in SE Asia in mid April is quite important.

The location I great. Right on Rambuttri road with access to endless food, bars, and shopping. Also easy walking distance to several key sites such as the Grand Palace.

For the price, a really great find.

Stayed here recently for 3 nights, then we went on a tour for 12 days, then stayed for another 6 nights, during which the second part of our stay was during Songkran. We stayed in the standard room, so the room was quite basic, although adequate & clean enough for us. The air conditioning worked well. There are no room safes & our first room did not have a hair dryer but the second room did - not a big deal really. There are no tea & coffee making facilities in the rooms either, which would have been nice but not essential as there are plenty of cafes near by. Buffet breakfast was good, with plenty of Western, Thai & Chinese options. The pools are good too, a bigger deep pool & a small one for kids. The rooms on the street side can be a little noisy so be sure to ask for a back facing room if you're a light sleeper. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here & thought the location perfect. Would definitely stay here again. Beware if you're visiting during Songkran. This hotel is located right in the the heart of a huge street party. It can be a bit difficult travelling around Bangkok & the Kao San Rd area during this time. We loved the party atmosphere but could possibly be a little overwhelming for some. Located off the lobby are massage shops which are very handy. McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks nearby for kids & lots of great restaurants/bars etc at your fingertips.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up & facing the back are quieter.

My second time at Viengtai, I came back as I knew what a great spot it's in. Right in the heart of the action, has a pool & good air-con & friendly staff. Everything you want is a short walk out in the streets & the Grand Palace is close by.

Room Tip: Poolside rooms are quiet.

For a little extra money, we got a good nights sleep, without a sound from the craziness outside. The rooms were very clean and the staff were friendly.

The location was perfect, right in the center of Khaosan.
