“Expensive and not worth it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2009

I stayed at the Indra Regent while in the US Army back in 1972. It was a beautiful new facility and was one of the best in Bangkok at the time. Unfortunately, they are stuck in 1972. Little has changed about the Indra. It is clean, but very expensive for what they offer.

Water and drinks in the mini-bar are five times what they cost elsewhere. You get a bar of soap about the size of a breath mint and they have no wireless connections anywhere in the hotel.

The breakfast buffet is advertised as free, but it shows up on your bill, whether you eat it or not. We tried it one day and found the street food to be much better.

I love the area around the hotel, but would suggest the P.J. Watergate, nearly across the street. The price is a fourth of the Indra and the service is better.

Great place to stay for shopping. This hotel is in the heart of all the shopping complexes in Bangkok.

Breakfast was not that crash hot, tea and coffee tastes terrible, but ok for the 2 day stay. Just resorted to external coffee outlets.

Other problem was they checked us in to the smoking room without consulting us. Was not impressed had to request to have the room changed which they did immediately.

this was the third time in two years we have stayed at the Indra Regent and I was surprised to see how much shabbier it looked this time. Maybe we because we were on floor 13 instead of Floor 14 as in previous times. The room and also the bathroom, was clean but looked somewhat jaded. Our room was seviced daily and clean towels etc supplied without being requested.

The breakfast menu was standard but not that well cooked or pesented although I heard other guests giving contrary opinions! I always swim to exercise and had no problems with the pool or change rooms.

We had booked and paid for two extra nights in order to ensure early check in [ 7am] and late departure [ 7pm] On arrival, we were told that our room was not ready and that we would have to wait 30 minutes, however, when I smiled and said that we stayed there frequently because of the excellent service and asked them to check and see that we had paid for the previous night in order to have our room ready, we received our key cards together with a welcome drinks voucher and a smile. An other guest who was being told the same thing got angry and therefore had to wait for them to get a room ready.
The Indra Regent is in an excellent location for shopping and resturants that appeal to me which is why it is my choice for short term stays.

A group of 12 of us stayed at the Indra Regent from the 12th November for 4 nights. I have stayed here before but this time I was very disappointed in this hotel. The rooms were not clean ( that's 5 rooms) and every time you opened the curtains dust would fall them. But the windows were so dirty we couldn't see out of them anyway. When the lady came to clean the room she took the drinking glasses into the bathroom and washed them with her hands and then cleaned the toilet. NO GLOVES or anything and then went into the next room and did the same. the spare blanket we asked for had hair all over it. Out of 12 of us 7 got diarrhea and when i spoke to the front desk i was told no that couldn't be. We had only eaten at the hotel. The hotel really didn't care about it. The breakfast food was always cold and not very inviting. and a meal for 2 with soft drinks was $100 which for this hotel was very over priced.
NO I would never stay at this hotel again.

I do not recommend this hotel at all. The hotel staff are rude and unaccommodating. They charge for practically everything including the toilet paper. We stayed for 4 days and they cleaned our room once but left us no towels. Then they complained when we asked them to bring us some towels. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I would strongly recommend you not stay here.

We stayed at the Indra Regent last in 1986 - and the only thing that had been done since then was maybe a paint job. But it's good value as part of a package - dinner, Thai show, just ask your agent.
It's a grand old dinosaur in a central part of Bangkok - only a sweaty few minutes walk to all the shopping centres like Siam, World Centre and the like. It's right at the not yet completed Skytrain station (written in October 2008 - it was due to open the end of this year), and nearly every bus route in Bangkok runs past it.
Sit in the lobby, have a Singha and watch the world go past in comfort!
It smells a little musty, but the staff were friendly enough letting us stay until 6pm without any extra charge - just smile say sawasdee and try your luck!; efficient, clean room (17th floor, room 1735) with views over the city. Dead quiet - restaurants good but pricey (fish and chips, two beers and two wines 2276B - about $100AUD) so maybe try eating out.
Overall - well pleased!!

Indra Regent is a great hotel for price, the rooms were comfortable, typical hotel. It is reasonably located with markets just downstairs and plenty of taxis and tuk-tuks at the front to take you wherever you want to go, with the rail a short walk everything was at your finger tips.
Only down side was I managed to get sick off the eggs at breakfast, unsure what was in the, or if they were powdered as they definitely looked a little strange but thought I would be adventurous!! However all staff were friendly and helped out where they could. I would return to this hotel if I was intending to travel in that class of accom again.
