“Reasonable hotel near Bangkok sightseeing atractions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

The hotel offers basic rooms, which are fairly well maintained. The breakfast is adequate. There is a large choice of dishes from around the world. From croissants to curries.
The hotel is located in a neighborhood with during daytime a bustle of local markets. In the evening the neighborhood is very quiet and desolate. However in 10 minutes you can go by taxi (for 50baht they bring you there) to Khao San Road.
During the day you can walk in 20 minutes along the water to the Royal Palace. From there you can take the long tail on the Chao Praya river towards Sathron Pier. Here you step on the skytrain and you can explorer the inner city of Bangkok. Behind the skytrain stop "Siam" is again the longtail boat that can bring you back to the Prince Palace Hotel. This route was for us a great way to get in one day an impression of Bangkok.

I booked this place because I was landing early from an overnight flight from Europe and thought I might check in early. No way. Even though they told me I had to wait 30 minutes for a room to be free, it was actually more like 2.5 hours.
In general, the place has seem better times and could really use a facelift. The carpets look old and smell a bit funky, the rooms are spacious, and the view is pretty nice, but the windows were dirty and you were confined to the aircon, because the windows were impossible to open, even a bit.
The bed was nice and comfy though. Big plus. The restroom was ok, but the shower was a bit dirty and the hygiene standard could be lifted.
The other issue was the guests. Apparently half of Moscow was there, with their frowned faces and unfriendly manners. I didn't feel well between all those Russians. The only plus were some of the girls, nice to look at ;)
The breakfast didn't have many options and it was rather expensive. You'll be much better off eating somewhere outside close by.

Room Tip: top floors offer a good view of the very humid city

We have stayed in Bangkok many times and never been dissappointed until now. We found and booked this hotel for two nights and can honestly say it was our worst nightmare !
As a group of six we booked 3 rooms none of which were particularly clean, one room had mould ridden curtains, all 3 rooms had bathrooms that would be better described as wet rooms because of the badly leaking baths/ toilets, windows were so dirty you could hardly see the beautiful view over the city and kettles that didn't work are just a few of our gripes, but these issues are nothing compared to the problem we had in our own room ! On arrival at around 9.30 pm and after a very long day travelling back from Cambodia we were greeted at the main entrance by a very irrate door man who started shouting at us (in Thai !) and the more we tried to understand him the louder he shouted but we soon found out with the help of our taxi driver that we were not allowed to enter the Hotel at the main front door, we were to get back in the taxi and drive round the corner to another entrance, not what you expect from a so called 4 star hotel ! We made our way to reception only to be 'greeted' by another extremely rude member of staff who really didn't want to give us the time of day ! We were all given our keys and made our way to our rooms, no help was offered to help with our bags.
Now this is where it gets interesting !
It is now way past 10.30 pm and as we had been travelling for more than 13 hours we decided to just call it a night and get a good nights sleep, everything will seem much better in the morning surely ! When we woke up, around 8.00am we turned on the TV only to find it had a big dent at the top which distorted the whole screen so we were unable to watch It and turned it off. At 9.00am my husband went down to reception to report the issue we had with the bathroom leaking and the TV problem, the young lady he spoke to was not very interested so my husband asked to speak to the manager who was no more helpful than she was, so we just left it at that and went for breakfast. Breakfast was no more a pleasurable experience, we were greeted by a very agitated lady who was obviously not having a good day and wanted us to know it, snapping at us for breakfast tickets that we had been given late the night before and not knowing which tickets we should be giving her, phew this was definitely not getting easier ! We were eventually allowed to pass through go and get our breakfast, and may I say the staff serving in the breakfast room were delightful !
After breakfast we went out and did a bit of sight seeing then sadly it was time to return to the hotel for round 2 !!
We arrived at our room only to find that our key didn't work so off we go again back to reception to get another key ( we were on the 30th floor so this was not a quick job ).We were then confronted by the manager and security and escorted back to our room where we were accused of damaging the TV and we were responsible for the cost of replacing it ! My husband very calmly explained he had reported the TV damage along with the other problems earlier that morning but was abrubtly told there was no note of his complaint, and that the room had been checked by the house keeper prior to our arrival and the TV was in perfect working order at that time !
So after a very heated conversation, we were told we would still have to pay for the damage.
Now our only saving grace was the CCTV, which we pointed out to the manager would show my husband leaving our room at 9.00am and arriving at reception to make the complaint and sure enough it did, which goes to show someone was telling porkies !
We then pointed out that it was a possibillity that the house keeper was mistaken and she hadnt seen the damage as it was not that obvious till you turned the TV on, or another possibillity is that the room door had been left open and some one else had been in the room prior to us arriving, but no, they having none of it, we were told the hotel had very good staff and excellent security ! So we bought it to their attention that one particular room on our floor had its door left wide open from when we went to breakfast and it was open again when we arrived back after our sightseeing, so had it been open all day, we were told this is not possible doors were never left open, they soon changed their tune when my husband took them along the hallway and low and behold there it was wide open still !
I rest my case !
The outcome of this fiasco was that we refused point blank to pay for the damage to the TV and if they persisted we would ask for the police to be called. We very calmly asked for our room bill so we could settle it and left very VERY angry.
So hopefully our experience and review will deter you from booking a room at this hotel and save you making the same mistake as us. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !

Room Tip: My tip is book a room somewhere else !

We managed to book this last minute and got a good price. Location is handy for Koh San Road and the main sites, It had a great view of bangkok from our window as we stayed on the 22nd floor.
The rooms were quite dirty and the overall hotel wasn't that great compared to the 4* rating it had. We only stayed 1 night to catch the sites and then moved to a better hotel

The Prince Palace Hotel, located about 10-15 min taxi ride east of Kao San Rd, Museums and Temples, and 10-15 west of the MBK center, is in a great location for those who want to see the sights but do not want to stay in the backpacker district or the overpriced business district.

We booked through expedia and payed about 90USD, for a very well equipped 4 star hotel this is great value. However please be aware that this base price comes with many hidden prices as mentioned in other reviews. It seems if you want anything extra, you are going to pay for it. Laundry for me and my girlfriend ended up being about 65USD, and the use of internet and the gym are all extra.

For some reason check-in is located at the lobby on the 11th Floor, and the staff is not too clear on this. So just take the elevator to the 11th and check-in. If you leave your bags with the bellboy in the lower lobby, dont expect them for about 20 min; unless you require assistance, I would just take them with you.

The room is everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel; excellent bed, furniture, tv with cable, robe, slippers, minibar, cold AC, and the best bathroom I have had yet in Bangkok.
The only complaint I had with the room is that the morning prayers from the Mosque located next to the hotel woke us up at sunrise each and every morning, even on the 24th floor. So if you are on that side of the hotel dont expect to sleep in.

The hotel restaurant is located on the 10th floor and prices are about the same as a nice restaurant in the US, but when you can pay a 10th of the price by walking out of the hotel and eating across the street the price seems absurd; I had a club sandwich for about 7.50USD. The food we had was just average and nothing to write home about. So, If you are looking for western food, I would suggest leaving the hotel and eating at any number of western chain restarants such as Outback Stakehouse etc, for the same or less amount of money.

The staff was adequate. They were friendly and helped with everything we needed, I didnt have any problems with them as described in some of the other reviews I have read. But I can say that this is a huge hotel and you definitely feel like you are one of hundreds of guests and are almost treated like a number instead of a guest. There is a concierge at the ground floor lobby who can help with minor questions about travel and flights etc, however I would not book any travel through the hotel, as you can find travel arrangements much cheaper through the hundreds of other travel agencies in Bangkok.

There is always somthing going on at the hotel's many banquet halls, bars and outdoor pool on the 10th floor. The night we arrived there was some outrageous western themed party and there were plenty of drunken thai cowboys and cowgirls running around through the lobby.

I would reccomend this hotel for the value alone, but I would suggest families and couples looking for luxury and a good location to stay here especially. This is an excellend choice for those who are spending several days in Bangkok, want to see the sights, and come home to all the luxuries they expect in a hotel.

For the amount we paid we had a fantstic stay, nice room and for the medium price level(about 20% below the normal pricelevel) a luxurious feel of the place. It is a pity that the management does not seem to understand the complaints uttered in many reviews. We were lucky though. We had almost all of the cons but in a mild way i.e. Mould in the batroom, torn wallpaper, minor cleanliness problems but in all it was ok for the pricelevel. If you are unlucky you might possibly run into an unpleasant room. We would prpbably take the risk at the next occasion.

Beware of ridiculuos charges like 100 Baht for 15 minutes wifi or 1200 baht for 1 hour thai massage. Sauna and fitness not inclusive. 300 baht/day/person
