“Good Location - Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

A very tired hotel in need of a re-vamp. However, in an excellent location for many Bangkok sites, so tolerable for a couple of nights.
The room we had was in need of decoration and the furniture old. However, it was clean and the bed was comfortable enough.
Breakfast was very average and the restaurant poor.
Was supposed to spend another night there a few weeks later, however the hotel was threatened by floods, which might do it a favour if it got it re-decorated!

This is not a modern hotel. We stayed one night as part of a tour. It has a gloomy old faded colonial feel. An easy walk to the Grand Palace, Reclining Buddha etc. No mass transit system nearby. The pool did look awful and was not used. Very noisy during the night. Breakfast OK, but glad to leave.

We only stayed in the Royal hotel for a couple of nights.
The hotel is in desperate need of a refurb. The rooms are dark and dated, though clean.
Theres a couple of restaurants in the hotel, which aren't worth the money. We went to the Chinese they had there paying 700฿ for the meal and didn't eat it.

The location is great, right by a 7/11 and many food vendors. Just a short 5 minute walk to the Khaosan Road where there's loads of bars, restaurants, shops, food vendors!
It's also right by the Grand Palace and other tourist places.

Apart from the location there isn't anything good to say about the Royal Hotel. Maybe ok for a night or two?!

Stayed there for several nights before travelling up north. Very old run down hotel. Stinky hallways and rooms. Barely cleaned with carpets from the sixties. Could not use the pool as the the deck was rotten and water was green. Neighbourhood was bad even for Bangkok. A homeless garage sale was along the side street every night. Find another roof to go over your head!

This is a huge hotel just around the corner from Kaosarn.
It was very chique 2 decades ago, now the rooms are clean but def. need a bit of paint.
The breakfast is included and their buffet has a wide range of foods and beverages.
Friendly staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room without a door to the next one!

A traditional hotel feel, lovely grand staircase.
Very good price for standard of room, had a small pool
Really good location for many of the top sights, grand palace, khao san road, chinatown- all walkable.
Reasonably close to the river boat which takes you everywhere.
Buffet breakfast had a reasonable selection of both thai and western dishes.

Horrible, dingy spot that gives the impression of being unchanged since the seventies. It's a big sprawling old-fashioned place, replete with oddly employed staff. Barbers, masseurs, package travel-agents, chinese restaurant etc. It almost feels like the set of a bad tv series about the daily life of a large hotel forty years ago. Scary, like the Bangkok version of The Shining.
