I went to Bangkok with my friend for shopping and some other leisure last June 2011. Well, the city is not so different from Manila - alot of shopping places, very busy streets and alot of food. Literally, everyone is selling everywhere. Selling is everyone's business in BKK. Price range is pretty much the same in Manila - well, everything probably cheaper in Bangkok by 10%.
With regard Baiyoke Suite, the major PLUS point is the the location. Once you step out of the building, you would know right at once that you are right in the heart of the shopping locale. HINT: you won't get the cheapest items in the stalls near Baiyoke Suite neither is it the high-end district. What you get to shop here would be cheap clothes and accessories you can bargain but at mid-range prices. We learned on our 2nd to 3rd day that there's alot more places to go where everything his even cheaper - as in half or 2/3 the price we got from the stores near the hotel. Nevertheless, it's still nice to be located there due to ease of access to everything.
Some of those "better" places (on top of my head) would be Chatuchak and MBK Mall. I got cheap original perfumes in MBK but everything else is in Chatuchak. It's just one hell of a shopping place, and I loved it!!!
I'll post some pictures of the hotel itself. Judge for yourself. Here are a few bullet reminders for you guys:
> Do not try the hotel buffet lunch and dinner food. It sucks. The only reason we ate dinner at the Baiyoke Lounge was because it rained pretty hard and we were trapped in the hotel without any food.
> Breakfast food is so-so but if you can get a cheaper package not including buffet breakfast, GET THAT!
> The bathroom is not that clean. Well, it's clean (I guess) but you really can't tell. Tiles are old and lights are gloomy.
> Room carpet is kinda dirty too. This one I can tell.
> The AC is weird and noisy. It's the old type of ACs they have in the rooms and the sound may be irritating at night.
>Wi-fi service is pretty expensive at 200-300 baht an hour.
The best part about Baiyoke is the price. We got a suite bedroom for 3 nights for only 5,000 baht. You do the math on how cheap that could get.
