“Stay in the Krungthep (balcony) wing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Room was beautiful, so lovely to have a balcony right on the Chao Praya river. The upgrade to Krungthep is totally worth it as the service is so high class and you have access to the lounge for breakfast (including eggs cooked to order), tea and cocktails. An oasis and resort feel in Bangkok. Would highly recommend for atmosphere, location and service. We took the shuttle boats in both directions (to Asiatique and to River City) and although both just basically lead to malls, it's still fun. As North Americans we have paid a whole lot more for a whole lot less elsewhere!

Room Tip: Krungthep all the way. Be aware the balconies front on the river but also on a busy highway bridge s...

The most relaxing stay, beautiful surroundings in the bustle of Bangkok. Staff particularly porters and doorman were ever so caring and helpful. The breakfast selection phenomenal, the dreamy beds seductive.
I was left gifts of chocolate cakes and cards by the management as it was my birthday- i found this incredibly touching.
The only let own was at breakfast when we were asked if my fiancé and I were sharing the same room. This was met my bemused puzzlement by both of us.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone and am sure I will be back soon.

Room Tip: Baloney overlooking the river

Very nice hotel but was expecting more of a wow factor. Great location and very nice service - other than the fact that my room did not get made up 2 days in a row until I called at night to ask...

amazing breakfast and great pool.

The Shangri-La is the epitome of gracious hospitality. For our 6 night stay in March we enjoyed an 8th floor corner room in the Shangri-La wing with expansive bedroom and bathroom views of the lush landscaped pool, the Chao Phraya river and the city beyond. Every morning we started the day with tea and fresh fruit on our balcony then headed down for the breakfast options of ordering off the menu or joining in on the excitement of the buffet breakfast of American, Asian and Indian options. All the staff at the front desk, concierge desk, and transportation desk answered all our multiple questions and helped us daily in planning our adventures all over the city. Then in late afternoon it was off to the pool to relax and be pampered by the pool staff...they are in constant motion with cool water, towels, bits of fruit and perhaps a lucious drink from the bar. Even the Business office staff should be commended for helping us change our flight plans..they made it quick and easy. The hotel, the room, the pool, the food, they were all fantastic. But I cannot say enough about the warm, caring staff. They are certainly the reason I have such wonderful memories now of my experiences in Bangkok. Thanks again!

I stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok on my honeymoon in April. It is by far the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. Upon our arrival, we upgraded to a room in the Krungthep Wing - which I highly recommend. We had an on-floor butler, who was a delight, breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. The room had a balcony overlooking the river. We had fresh fruit in the room everyday, and little treats for our honeymoon - like macaroons and chocolate - which really made us feel special. The service at this hotel is absolutely stellar. The guest relations manager (I didn't take down her name) was so helpful and sweet.

Besides all this, the hotel is in a great location, right next to the river and one of the stops of the river taxi. The concierge really helped us plan out our one full day in the city so we could take full advantage of our time - it was so helpful! He also recommended a great place for dinner, which was delicious.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. It was a wonderful experience, and makes me want to try out Shangri-La Hotels in other cities around the world :-)

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Krungthep Wing - great views and great perks - well worth the extra money!!

Been to Bangers a dozen times but never stayed alongside the river.

I've been missing out for years.
What an amazing location.

Escape the hussle of the city, short cab ride or BTS it right into the heart of the city.

Once the day is over, what better way than to come back to the Shang, sit by the working river, watching the sun set.

Hotel staff are amazing, professional, knowledgeable and always friendly.

Breakfast along side the river front is a great way to start the day.

Lovely property.

We'll be back for sure.

Cheers

Stayed for three nights in a Balcony room with my wife and thoroughly enjoyed the sights from the Balcony overlooking the river and the great hospitality of Thai people in the hotel. Checkin was smooth as expected from a high class hotel, were taken to our room by a guest relation lady and seconds later luggage was delievered- vey efficient !
Food is slightly expensive but excellent quality at Buffet restaurant and Angilini- Italian restaurant. Hotel is huge, spread out in a large area alongside the very busy river ,with two wings and lots of space to walk around without having to feel trapped in a typical tall building. On request, we were given a tour of the Horizon Club Lounge and that's where we will stay next time as it includes lots of privileges by paying few extra bucks. (This visit we were on a tight budget :). Beautiful pool and great location.
Overall, an excellent choice to have a relaxing stay in a crazy city.
