“Spacious and Comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We spent more than a week at the Grand President and being frequent visitors to Thailand and Bangkok used to stay at the sister property of Grand President the President Solitaire which is a smaller and quieter property just a 100 meters away.

We changed hotels as the level of maintenance had gone down drastically at President Solitaire in the last few years and the hotel is badly in need of a refurbishment.

If the management are not on the ball with Grand President, this is also headed the President Solitaire way with guests shying away from what was once a wonderful property. Right now things are not bad but without any routine replacements and refurbishment soon, in a couple of years Grand President will reach the level of where President Solitaire is today.

The rooms are huge and comfortable. The rooms to stay in are the Junior Suites or the Deluxe Suites. We booked a Junior Suite with a confirmed upgrade to the Deluxe Suite. You should be either in tower 1 or Tower 2. Not in Tower 3 which is across the road. There are many reviews about Tower 3 which are not very flattering and most of the negative reviews of the entire hotel stem from the people who have stayed in Tower 3.

The Beds are really great and Housekeeping is good. Our room was really huge with a separate Living Room, fully equipped kitchenette etc and high up in Tower 2 without any noise. The website even now says the toiletries will be from Ananda Spa in the Deluxe Suites but we never did see any Ananda Spa Toiletries.

We arrived early at about 8.00 AM and they were considerate enough to give us a room instead of making us wait till 2.00 PM. There was an extra charge but that was acceptable. We had a late Checkout as part of the package which was fine.

The Bell staff and Concierge were really helpful and efficient.

The Breakfast was a spread of Continental, Arabic, Indian & Asian. It was a bit unorganised because the number of people outnumbered the no of seats the place had so it was a bit chaotic every morning finding places to sit. The live egg station had a long queue in front of it every morning.

When we asked for an extra blanket they said they would charge us 50 Baht per blanket per day! Come on Grand President don’t try to squeeze your guests for every little thing.

Another issue was that I had given my Credit card for Guarantee on check in and told them that 1 would pay in cash on checkout. They took a pre authorisation of about 35000 THB which is about 1100 USD and on checking out when I mentioned to them about the cancellation of the pre authorisation they told me it would be automatically taken care of. The pre authorisation took more than 3 weeks to be revoked. When I sent a mail to their reservation department there was no response or action and after another week the Pre Auth was cancelled. So beware your credit limit is blocked to the extent of the pre Authorisation. Try and get this sorted out at reception itself while checking out.

The location is the greatest plus point and it’s very hard to beat with everything around the corners.

See you soon Grand President and Grand President Management please start up the refurbishment work to restore the eroding glory to the Grand Hotel.

I have my second home in Northern Thailand. This property is always my base when I am traveling thru Thailand. Again check in staff did a poor job in checking in my family and our one year old, making us wait over an hour when in fact I called 2 hours earlier to see if my room was ready.

I have been staying at this property for the past eight years, truly as a result of the fine support staff the property employs. Location, Location location doesn't get better. Siam the bell boys is great and always a helping hand and a great Ambassador to the clientele of this property. Housekeeping is kind and polite.

In the past visit it took me 3 months to get my deposit refunded, this time I used my Amex so I don't think they will withhold my money as last time I paid with my Krung Thai Bank ATM card.

For any first time visitor to Bangkok, you cannot find better value, so don't be discouraged by the front desk, they typically are accommodating, this time was a poor poor experience to keep my family waiting in the lobby for well over a hour :(

Room Tip: Non smoking pay extra and get a one bedroom suite.

I highly recommend staying at Grand President in Bangkok. Not only is it very comfortable and clean, the location is perfect. The sky train is 100 meters (at the end of Soi 11 which is the street the hotel is located on), there is a 7/11 practically across the rd, there is a foot masseur across the rd and there are plenty restaurants and bars as well. The street night markets & food stalls are 100 meters from the hotel & if youre after McDonlads or Pizza Hut they are both 5 minute walk from the hotel. The room we stayed in was a deluxe suite which has a kitchenette, washing machine/dryer, separate living room & bedroom and a big bathroom. The breakfasts are huge and include Continental, Islam, Indian & Asian cuisines. The pool is nice and cool. This hotel is good value for money and the staff are very helpful with anything you ask them.

Room Tip: The Deluxe Suits in tower 2 are nice and big - very good value for money. Ask for a room on a high f...

Well known old hotel with prime location on soi 11 Sukhumvit. Hotel consists of three towers, we got placed in the tower opposite the main towers, having to cross the road. Not very convenient since breakfast was included, in the other building…

Facilities nice roof top terrace and pool with sunbeds and provided towels, gym with air condition and laundry-o- mats.

Rooms; we ended up in the tower three, in what seemed to be serviced apartment rooms with pentry kitchen with a electric kettle with no power cord, rooms dark and dated, with a 'quaint' view of a dumpster looking empty lot. Clean rooms with everything you need though.
Very but very noisy from the corridor early in the morning, mainly by yelling maids, vacuums and late night return guests….

Service, front desk and security guard were friendly and helpful.

Restaurant; breakfast ok nothing special. The German brau-hause located in tower three building is pricey but has a good beer selection.

Value
If you get a great value deal and don't mind the above, you have access to a great pool, gym and location.

Room Tip: Avoid the tower three building.

Grand President, true to its name is an excellent hotel. The suites was spacious and grand and service wonderful. The staff was very helpful and guided us many a times in our endeavour to explore the city and the other joints around. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in Bangkok.

Room Tip: I suggest a connecting suites for 2 families

This service apartment used to be my favourite, as it is conveniently located and has good value for money. Rooms are consistently big and have nice amenities like kitchen and a living room.
During my last trip however, the check in staff did not prepare the room in time for me, even though I came in after 3pm. I was kept waiting for them to vacate a room and the front desk actually offer to 'upgrade'my family from a deluxe suite to a bigger room but lesser in value. No mention of the prepayment made or refund if any.
The room finally, is dark, as the front view of the hotel is blocked by another tower of Grand President. We stayed at Tower 2. A premium service apartment, but the amenities in the bathroom is sorely lacking. We wish they could relook at the service they are providing, as it is really a good hotel, save for the miserable breakfast spread they have there. If they could spruce it up, and brighten the rooms more, and remove the musky smells in the rooms before the aircon blows in, we will definitely love to stay there again and again.
