“Landmark - Fab Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2008

We stayed in the Landmark in April 07 and had a brilliant time. On arrival we had an option to upgrade our room from standard to club level and it was really worth it.

The location of the hotel was great for the mono-rail to explore the city. The pool was lovely & peaceful, you won't even know that you where is a city. Breakfast in the hotel was like no other I have ever seen, it accounted for every taste bud.

Staff where friendly and the views from the top floor, where lovely on a dry day!

We had a comfortable 2 night stay. This hotel has a great location on one of the busiest roads in Bangkok. We found the skytrain the best way to get around as the traffic got very busy at certain times. We booked our stay with Thomas Cook Signature and the reps were fantastic, we saw and learnt a lot about the city. If your doing the tourist thing definately visit the Golden Palace, the floating market and the night bazzar. The hotel pool was great after a long day exploring the city, stay here if you like your home comforts but also want a taste of the real Bangkok. For food really recommend cabbages and condoms, for authentic Thai food and the Vertigo restaurant on the top of the Banyon tree hotel for the view.

  • Liked — Central location and pool was good too!

We stayed at The Landmark for 3 nights at the beginning of our honeymoon. As we were on honeymoon we were upgraded to a deluxe corner suite on the 18th floor which was massive with a huge bed, seating area and large well equiped bathroom. They also bought us a lovely chocolate cake and fruit which was a nice touch. Everything was spotless, not just in the room but throughout the hotel. We didn't see any stains on the carpets, but the lightshades throw shadows which could look like stains, but i can definitely say they weren't!
We went in some of the bars in the hotel, the one on the top floor is more pricey but you get a great view out over Bangkok, there's also a nice one in the reception area and the Huntsman Pub in the basement which was good for a few drinks after coming back at the end of the evening. There were alot of old European men with young Thai girls in there but i suppose that is to be expected as the Nana Entertainment Plaza is right around the corner.
The pool area was a decent size and great for a swim to cool down at the end of a day sightseeing. It never had anyone in when we went.
We found the hotel was in a good position to get around Bangkok as the Skytrain is close by and easy to use, the doorman will also get you a taxi if you want too.
All the staff were exceptionally friendly and polite and couldn't do enough for you, we would definitely return to Bangkok and to the Landmark.

Writing this review after reading a scathing report on the hotel dated May 08. We have just returned to Australia after spending four nights on level 18 of the hotel and found the room, service and facilities exceptional. Either they have just completed an amazing upgrade in the last four weeks or the previous mentioned reviewer got the wrong hotel. Staff extremely friendly, easy to communicate with and have flexible breakfast options to accomodate early pickups for tours etc. Buffet was superb with all tastes catered for including cooked to order eggs, waffles, pancakes and crepes. Rooms were very clean and modern, serviced twice daily. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

  • Liked — High standard of accomodation located centrally with easy access to Skytrain
  • Disliked — Pool was cold the day we went for a swim (in Bangkok!)

Stayed at the Landmark late May for 3 nights en-route to Phuket. I have to say that I was very impressed with the hotel.

The facade of the hotel is extremely grand - as is the reception area. Was given a room on the 18th floor - which was quiet and with fantastic views over the city - particularly during sunrise!

I cannot understand the comments from people who complain about the carpets etc - I found everything to be top-notch and worthy of any 4 star + hotel.

The breakfast was amazing - possibly one of the best I have seen (and have stayed in lots of hotels in Asia and around the world).

The pool area is perfectly adequate for a quick swim or a chillout - but like others have said - who comes to Bangkok to sit around a pool all day!

All of the staff we encountered during our stay were extremely helpful and polite - doors were opened when entering/leaving the hotel and every staff member passed when walking through the hotel promptly bowed their head and gave a friendly 'Sawadee Kah'.

The only slight niggle I would have with the hotel was that from 7pm onwards, the amount of Western men walking through the hotel with their 'pay-as-you-go' Thai girlfriends was astonishing. In my view, something should be done to discourage this - I know the hotel we stayed at in Phuket charged guests THB1000 to bring a 'friend' in for the night - this could be an idea for the Landmark!

All-in-all a wonderful stay and I would not hesitate to stay there on my next trip to Bangkok.

  • Liked — Location, service, cleanliness - everything!
  • Disliked — Sometimes felt like a go-go bar in Patpong Market in the evenings!

Well, where to start.
The arranged Limo pick up from the airport failed to pick us up, takes 30 minutes on the phone to eventually be told we might as well 'just get a taxi'.
Finally get to the hotel and there's a constant banging noise and can hardly hear what the receptionist is saying. Get given a voucher for a meal to say sorry for the problems, the voucher was for either the Japanese or the Thai restaurant, both of which have been closed down 3 months ago, we were then told we could use the voucher in the courtyard restaurant but that closed at 6 (an hour ago).
When you first get out of the lift you see how badly this hotel needs renovating, the carpets are stained, the walls dirty and then you get into your room and again it looks like it hasn't been decorated for 20 years. The room was disgusting it hadn't been cleaned properly, the cupboards we're falling apart and the safe wouldn't shut.
When trying to complain on the phone I couldn't find anyone who understood me and when going to the reception to make a complaint I was told that the General manager was away for 3 days and could arrange for me to speak to him when he got back (this was the same person who had booked me in for 2 nights half hour previous). Upon asking who I could speak to sooner I was told the Manager was busy having dinner.
Having stupidly paid for 2 nights in advance we spent as little time as possible in the hotel, we love Bangkok and will definatly return again but not to The Landmark!
Also be aware anyone with families, the majority of The Landmarks guests are here for the seedy side of the city and the hotel turns into a brothel at night. My wife joked that maybe they hire the rooms by the hour.

Landmark is a very good tourist hotel in a very central location, within walking distance from a lot of things and right next to a sky train station. Rooms are very clean and somewhat compact. Breakfast is excellent, as is all service at the hotel. Pool area leaves room for improvement, but I guess most people do not come to Bangkok to sit by the pool.
