Started our 14 day honeymoon in Bangkok for a few nights. We chose Banyan Tree Bangkok through a friend's referral.
We had the hotel pick us up from the airport to get the hotel.
Transaction was very smooth. As we got through customs and a man was standing out with our name on a sign who then led us to the car which was taking us to the hotel (The car they picked us up in was a BMW 7 series). The driver had given us a cold and damp wash cloth which was needed after a 23 hour flight in addition to bottle waters.
As we got to the hotel, we were amazed with the service provided. As we checked in, they provided us with a flower bracelet which is a custom in Bangkok and a glass of their flavored tea.
The room was excellent. We were in a suite which had a separate living room and a bedroom.
The breakfast buffet was awesome. All sorts of excellent choices and the juices were unique everyday.
Vertigo had amazing views of the city. I wouldn't eat there as the food is average at best and overpriced for Bangkok. You can go somewhere else to get better meals. 1 appetizer, 2 main plates, and drinks cost us around $220 USD. Spend your money on drinks and go out of the hotel to get your meal.
Banyan Tree was close to the Patpong Night Market where you can find fake goods (LV wallets and purses, mont blanc pens, etc).
The staff overall was accommodating to ensure our stay was a pleasurable one.

Room Tip: Ensure ou get the suite and high floor. Views of the city were amazing.

We visited at start of may 2013 for first few days of our honeymoon, very impressed with the hotel were allowed to check in as soon as we arrived at 9 am. The check in was very smooth and quick, our room was located on the 55th floor so had an amazing view across Bangkok, the room was very large and well equipped. We went for dinner in the hotel on the first night in the Saffron restaurant food was great, as was the service. We went up to the Moon bar for drinks on a few occasions,(which is a must for any one going to Bangkok just to see the view). The breakfasts in the hotel were really good too. Only major thing I felt that let this hotel down was the cost of drinks, they were charging well over the odds, compared with other bars around the area.

Over the past 8 months I stayed at the Banyan Tree (‘BT’) for business and at times for periods up to a month and a half.

The BT is located in a well serviced central area and is an architecturally striking building which also has one of the best roof top bars / dining areas in BKK, a beautiful swimming pool, decent gym area and well-appointed and decorated rooms. Notwithstanding all these positives, it really was the staff that made the experience much more than it would have otherwise been.

Khun Marisa at Guest Services was an angel and always made sure that we were well looked after. Khun Prach and his team (Sor and Pond just to name two) ran a very efficient service at Club Lounge level 21 and bent over backwards to ensure our needs were met. The lower ground breakfast at Romsai provided a wide variety of delicious food and was well presided over by Khun Jum and her team. So I’d have to say that the BT remains a destination of choice for me.

They also do a pretty good Nicoise salad (but ask for the Khun Mr Steve Special if you like your NS with extra and lightly seared tuna!).

We stayed a few nights under the "Gastronomics Delight" package.

Checking in was not as quick as I had hoped as the Club Room was not ready when I arrived (approaching 2pm), however to their credit, we were upgraded to a One Bedroom Suite which was nice and big. The Club rooms and suites are all situated on the 31st floor and below, so their views are not the greatest (possibly of nothing but another building across the road). It might be worth noting the deluxe rooms occupy higher floors and have much better views of the city. The hotel is not new, lobby area is very dated however the rooms are still well maintained and reasonably clean.

The swimming pool is on the 21st floor, nice but quite small. I didn't try the hotel spa (I only saw the bill), although you can get massages nearby for half the price, I was assured by my wife that it was money well spent!

Being in a Club room or suite allows you access to the Club lounge with complimentary buffet breakfast, snacks around lunch time, evening canapes, and drinks till 8pm (yes all free). The buffet breakfast is one of the better ones I've had at any hotels.

The included Apsara cruise was a very pleasant candle lit dinner, with a free shuttle to and from the boarding point. It seemed that there was only one fixed Thai set dinner that was served whether you were part of the stay package or not. However if you aren't good with spicy food, tell them ahead and they can tone it down. Food was ok, but overall still quite a special experience.

The dinner at the Vertical was also very special. Outdoor western dining with great views from the top of the hotel(61st floor I think), but not sure what they do if it rains. With the package you can choose one of the 2 available 3 course dinners (which were priced around 2500 Baht per head). Well worth getting there a little earlier when its still light to see the sunset, take some photos and to read the menu! Also try getting a table on the city side too. Again, I can't say the food was amazing, but I guess you go up there for the views and not the food.

Book your table well ahead of arriving as both dinners were quite busy when I went and I'm not sure if they would always be able to accommodate you if you didn't book before.

Location wise, the hotel is a 5 mins walk to the subway. The BTS Sky train is 10mins walk and more useful for getting into places like Siam and Central World. There is an hourly free shuttle to the sky train station which incidentally is right next to Patpong.

The hotel was 25 mins taxi from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International airport. We grabbed a meter taxi from the official stand and the total cost including airport and toll charges was less than 400 Baht. The good thing about the location of the Banyan tree is that it is very close to the exit/entrance of the tollway and hence traffic should not be that bad to and from the airport.

I would've given it 5 stars were it not for a few (probably isolated) incidents which showed that their staff were not very well trained for a 5 star hotel. For example I felt our waitress at the Vertical was verging on a little rude in the mannerism in which she spoke to us, almost telling us what we should order and when we should have each course served.

Also when I asked to get a free 10 mins shoulder massage at the Club lounge (which was advertised on their website), I was told by the hostess they don't do it anymore. So when I pointed out that it was still advertised as part of the Club Lounge Benefits on their website, she asked whether it was written on my booking confirmation (which it wasn't as these things normally aren't), and "explained" that it was an old offer from last year and the website was out dated. Furthermore, she had not seen it since last year. That was until I pointed out to the woman sitting 6 feet away from us, and getting her 10mins shoulder massage all this time we had been talking!

Room Tip: As high as you can go. Face the city.

Fantastic smell as u enter the hotel and the check in staff are very attentive and efficient. Rooms are absolutely lovely with a very comfortable bed, the bathroom is also an excellent size with a lovely big bathtub. The hotel has excellent facilities and a beautiful pool thats looks over the city. There is a very helpful concierge. We got a taxi from the hotel to the centre and it cost 60thb. We got a wake up call from the hotel for an early flight and they came to our room with tea and coffee. Yhe breakfast was lovely with a great selection on the buffet. A taxi from the hotel to the airport was 280thb. Over all I loved bangkok and will return to the banyan tree.

Thank you for your service while there.

We visited the Banyan Tree two years ago, and frankly I have been eager to come back.

The second time around it was even nicer, since it felt like coming back to our home in the East (a very luxurious home indeed).
Rooms are spacious and offer all kinds of amenities, the pool is fantastic, the breakfast included in the price is a vast selection of delicious foods and drinks, and the restaurants are excellent.
We particularly loved taking a snack and drink at the pool, and of course the Moon Bar is an eternal favorite.

Make sure to allow some money in your holiday budget as you will definitely want to purchase some body lotion and shower gel in their signature Thai Chamanard scent.

Delicious - again, can't wait to return.
