“Luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I very much enjoyed the stay in this hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful (especially the concierge who also gives you great advice if you are looking for "street food"), check-in and check-out very fast and painless, service genereally outstanding and very friendly, the rooms are very tasteful and big. We had the deluxe room which I thought was completly sufficient if you are not looking for a suite. I can highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet hotel with luxury.
The swimming pool is a nice area to relax and service there is also really good.

I came here for a weekend with the family. We had stayed at the all-suite Banyan Tree next door and that had just underwhelmed us.

This is an intentionally under-stated hotel. The first impression is that of an oasis indeed. The kind of place where people talk in whispers and yet can be heard. It's set back from busy Sathorn Road so it's unbelievably calm and quiet. Even the entrance is under stated so that some taxi drivers almost overshoot it.

You are greeted by hotel staff clad in traditional Thai bloomer-type pants. You sit down to check-in. (Rule #7 in hotel check-in: Any place where you sit down typically has higher rates.)

My wife got a good rate and we ended up in the 76 sq m deluxe suite. There is a small lobby, a living room, a second toilet, the masterbedroom, and then a bathroom that in overall area is larger than the bedroom. There are two sink areas (not sinks but sink areas) with his on the right and hers on the left. A cushion bench in the middle divides them. There is a bathtub, a shower area, a covered toilet area, and then open space for clothes. This is luxurious as condos are touting "spacious" one-bedroom of 45 sq m.

There was plenty of bottled water, a Nespresso machine and a basket of fruits that was topped up. Oh, and there were two TVs with two sets of Bose audio systems.

The only complaints about the place: the mattress was too soft and I ended up with mild backaches on return. The bathroom had a tiny shelf space for shampoo and scrub.

The gym was pretty well equipped with aerobics and weight machines and even one bosu ball. A couple of kettlebells would have made it complete.

The spa--from the Spa Botanica brand--is not cheap but the masseuse is really professional. She was sweating at the end of the two-hour hard-pressure session.

The Celadon restaurant serves one of the best Thai food I have ever had. The tom-yam soup was excellent, with a jumbo prawn (not shrimp, please) that was laden with roe. When you crack the shell, the roe oozed out and thickened the soup. Clever. And delicious. Yes, it's all somewhat pricey but well worth going for.

We also tried an afternoon tea that for us had the chocolate buffet. The real foodie among us praised the creme brulee as "the best ever". The sashimi somehow came across as not so fresh. But the scones (you need to order) were first rate.

Breakfast was very good. This is not a large hotel so do not expect a very wide spread. It has the usual omelette and bread stations. But there is enough variety to please, Chinese, Japanese and Western palates.

The only downside to the hotel overall may be its location. It's 500m to the Lumpini MRT but in the hot sun, you would be just about fainting when you reach the station. Having said that taxi fares were normally less than US$3 to get to just about any mall.

All in all, it was an exceptional weekend. Relaxing, served hand and foot by competent professional staff. If you have some funds to splurge, go for it.

I noted on an earlier review that as a regular(ish) guest I thought the service had reduced a little. I was pleased this service had largely returned to usual on my most recent stay.

The facilities here are excellent with large pool, great gym, separate mens & womens spa area and one of the best hotel spa treatments I've had in Thailand.

The hotel is great, the staff are also great but to continue getting the kind of rates they get I think they need to touch up the hotel rooms a little as some are looking a bit tired with wood chips, etc.

This hotel is pitched about the normal '5 star' in BKK so needs to continue to deliver extraordinary service to match the rates.

My company just selected the hotel and to my surprise I had one of my best experience there. I stayed there for a week with my family in executive suite. The room is spacious and well designed. They were having free wifi, fruits, chocolate & drinking water which suggest that they understand the basic necessity of a guest. The staffs there are really great and I had many direct experience where they exceed my expectations.

The food at hotel restaurants are good but price wise towards expensive side. Otherwise a very nice hotel with calm environment.

We had a lovely afternoon tea here. The restaurant was lovely and the food was really good. My 4 year old daughter loved the hot chocolate drinks and wasn't shy about asking for 4 cups of it to be made. The only slight criticism was that the sushi, and some cakes like the strawberry tarts were not replenished very quickly, there were a few empty stands at times but generally very good.

To say this hotel is bereft of atmosphere may be a tad harsh, yet that's my take. If you are a business person or diplomat, it's the perfect location, and a very serviceable hotel. If you are an expat in the region, it's a quiet spot of solitude, with traditional Thai touches - you'll love it. If you are a tourist looking for buzz, stay elsewhere. If you are like me, looking for a spot of Luxe on a stay- over, you may want to reconsider.

Room Tip: Beware the labyrinth! This hotel has halls for miles!

Dear GrandTonArrival,

Thank you very much for staying at The Sukhothai Bangkok and taking your valuable time sharing your stay feedback by posting the review on the Trip Advisor.

We certainly value your feedback and the Sukhothai Bangkok always offer the uniqueness in its location as an Oasis in Bangkok that will keep you away from the buzz of the city. We are close to the shopping area down town by just simply taking a local taxi or 10 minute-walk to the subway station. We do hope that you are also enjoying the other aspects of your stay with the level of service attentiveness and our facilities.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back to The Sukhothai Bangkok in the very near future.

Very professional staff, great room service. I'd visit again, the location is great. Not my style of decoration, but well executed. The price is fair to what you get.
I got an upgrade, a bottle pf Champagne and chocolates for being on my honeymoon. Highly recommended
