Ok so this hotel is not the Ritz. The rooms are a bit tired and the decor a bit old fashioned. However, I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. It is huge, well maintained and spotlessly clean.
The staff are wonderful, friendly and every one of them take time to acknowledge you with a friendly hello. You can tell this is a very well managed hotel.
My room had everything I needed. Comfortable bed, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, safe, 24 hour room service and wireless internet connection. The communal areas are well maintained and I found the food and drinks to be of a very good quality. There is a lovely deli in the lobby serving fresh sandwiches, salads and coffee. Very reasonably priced and very tasty. There are quite a few shops in the lobby including a tailor and jewellers.
At the back of the hotel is a lovely park with a lake in the middle. As a female on my own some of the time during my stay I felt very safe here. Lots of people doing yoga and jogging. Nice park benches to just sit and watch the world go by. This park really is a haven in the middle of such a busy city.
At the front of the hotel is a busy road just off Sukumvit. Again I felt very safe here. You really feel like you are in the real Bangkok in this area compared to some of the more touristy areas I've stayed in before. You really get a true feel for the local culture here. It's busy, sweaty and chaotic! There are street vendors selling food and lots of massage parlours. OK maybe some of these parlours are seedy, I don't know. I went to two different ones and had fantastic and very professional back massages. One was a Thai massage (quite painful!) and one was Swedish aromatherapy (wonderful). They are very reasonably priced. The hotel has a spa too which I didn't try but some of my friends said it was lovely. There is also a 7-11 convenience store opposite the hotel and lots of bars all the way along the street. At first glance I thoght these bars looked a bit rough and not somewhere I would choose to go but we gave some of them a try and what a great time we had.
The Thai people were so friendly and welcoming. By the end of our trip we felt like we were leaving old friends and went to say goodbye to one bar owner in particular who had been so kind and hospitable to us. Also the sky train is a 5 minute walk from the hotel through the park. It is excellent, safe, reliable and cheap. A great way to get around a city with traffic jams galore!
Bangkok is a wonderful city and this is a great hotel in a great location, enjoy!
