“Affordable Luxury at its Finest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

Wow! Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at the beginning of May, we booked a Towers Club Riverview Room which includes some great perks like the 27th floor Towers Lounge which serves free afternoon tea and evening drinks and nibbles - I cannot recommend this enough, as I say in my title its affordable luxury and why not treat yourself for only a little extra money?

Our room was on the top floor - 28th and the views were incredible! Room was spacious, modern and spotlessly clean.

Whilst we were at the hotel we dined in two of the hotels restaurants, Sambal and Thara Thong. Both were really lovely and we had some great food. The breakfast selection is brilliant - lots of thai and western options.

The pools are great too, the garden pool is a sanctuary from all the hustle and bustle outside - they have peacocks(!!) and there is also a pool overlooking the river. We also used the gym which was really well equiped.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and would go back tomorrow!

Room Tip: Towers Club Riverview Rooms - worth every penny!

Stayed at the Sheraton in May 2012 for 4 nights. Got an amazing internet deal for just over AUD$100 per night including breakfast. Thoroughly recommend this hotel and services and would definately go back there. Our room was on the 22nd floor and overlooking the river. The breakfast was fantastic aswell and there the hotel has a free boat that takes you to the nearby skytrain station. There are other boats that also stop at the Sheraton pier or pier next door so that you can visit nearby restaurants which have a pier (as they have their own boats which pick you up) or cruise up and down the river by water taxi. Great hotel.

Room Tip: Update to the Premier Deluxe River view room

As an SPG Platinum member, at check-in the receptionist was very warm, welcoming, and upgraded my room as well as gave me club level access, which is a Platinum benefit. The hotel is very large and very busy, but that doesn't take away the staffs attentiveness. The hotel offers a variety of shops, meeting halls, restaurants, as well as a nice pool. The club lounge is very large and offers a wide variety of beverages and snacks. The location is good, although the tourist sites aren't within walking distance. Conveniently, there's a shopping mall located right next door that offers souvenir shops, a few clothing stores, restaurants, and a coffee shop.
The rooms offer you the usual Sheraton amenities, but it feels more upscale compared to other Sheraton properties that I've stayed in (which is common for Sheraton properties outside of the Americas). As a Platinum member, I get free wireless internet, but for those who don't get this benefit, the business centre offers free internet use on their computers.
I would recommend this hotel, and would be willing to stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river.

Our second stay at this hotel. Stayed in a deluxe premium river view room which was nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and had a great view.
We like the riverside location and the two pools are good for relaxing before or after sightseeing. It's nice sitting by the pool just watching the river traffic. Very interesting and it's very pretty at night too sitting outside the bars/ restaurants watching all the passing dinner cruiseboats all lit up.
There's a hotel shuttle boat that takes you to the pier where you can take the sky train. Runs every 30 mins but only problem we found was the last boat back was 10.10pm which was a bit early for us. We got on the Hilton Millenium's boat back instead as that runs until 11pm (hotel is opposite the Royal Orchid Sheraton). When you get off the boat turn right onto another pier where you catch the ferry across to River City (next to the Royal Orchid). That ferry costs 4baht pp and runs back and forth all the time. Other alternatives are getting a taxi or tuk tuk back to the hotel, so it's very easy to get around generally.
The breakfast at the hotel is buffet style and very good, plenty of selection to choose from. We also ate our evening buffet dinner one night, here in the same restaurant which was excellent and good value. We saw the same restaurant manager as last year and he was very attentive once again. We also saw a member of staff who we recognised from last year as well and he was lovely..very chatty and was telling us all about Bangkok.
We chose this hotel again mainly for it's location being on the river, but the staff and service you receive here are excellent.

Room Tip: River view is great

The Royal Orchid Hotel is still our favorite Hotel in Bangkok. It is a ressort hotel with two pools in downtown. I have been coming here for more then 13 years and I must say the hotel has kept its unique charme and this is also a reason always to come back. The rooms are in very good condition and the service in the hotel is at its best. We will be back shortly. Thank you for the great stay.

Just spent a weekend at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel and Towers. Located on the Chaopraya River in Bangkok it is a great place to wile away a weekend. We stayed there last weekend - my wife and two kids. We enjoyed a junior suite with a magnificent view. The Club Lounge is a little dated I must say and probably needs a makeover but the service and food and beverage were very good. Two great pools, a tennis court, full gym, sauna etc. make this place one of my favourites. There is a shuttle boat on the half hour which deposits you at Taksin Pier within striking distance of the skytrain and Chinatown is five minutes upriver in the opposite direction. The breakfast downstairs in a restaurant can be enjoyed indoors or outdoors on the river terrace. The breakfast offering is extensive with noodle soup, eggs any style, pancakes and pastries, curries, fresh fruits, some Indian and Chinese foods. In short, very extensive. They have some great deals on weekend stays. We'll be back!

Reasonably priced (we got stay 3 pay 2 over the weekend) hotel with all of the amenities western travellers expect, including a large lagoon pool and a variety of in house restaurants. Clearly Sheraton attempts to provide guests with every possible service they may desire without having to leave the hotel (souveniers / shopping, tailor, tour agency, entertainment), which makes sense in some cities but not in one such as vibrant and exciting as Bangkok.

That being the case, it's location is not ideal - although situated directly on the Chao Phraya river (all rooms have uninterrupted river view), and with a complimentary ferry service to the Taksin Bridge ferry piers (though there are public ferry piers on either side of the hotel - if you miss the half hourly hotel service), it is a bit out of the way. The hotel is just far enough away from China Town, Saphan Taksin BTS and the Hua Lamphong MRT to walk, and the main road serving the hotel (Charoen Krung) is a one way street. Given the horrendous Bangkok traffic, a taxi, while comfortable, is usually painfully slow in the afternoon and evening. I chose to use the motorcycle taxi to get to the MRT station (the quickest way to get from that side of town to Sukhumvit Rd). The bottom line is, it's not the easiest place to get from or to, and therefore each trip away from the area (ie for shopping) will take you at least an hour.

I found the rooms in good order, reasonably modern and very well presented (spotlessly clean) although another power outlet at the desk would have been handy as I had to disconnect the lamp in order to recharge our phones & laptop. One minor disappointment was the lacklustre selection of TV channels - for a large international hotel I would expect several each of sport, movie, news & documentary channels. Unfortunately there wasn't much in the way of entertainment, and (as I have found common in Thailand), the TV reception was poor quality & grainy. The bathrooms was adequate - reasonably spacious and impeccably clean.

We ate in the main hotel restaurant / buffet lounge, which on each occasion was excellent and reasonably priced. The gym looked decent in size, and in addition to the lap pool there was a large lagoon pool (proceed past the lap pool & down the steps into the Garden of Portugal) which features a swim up bar and a large garden inhabited by peacocks. It's nice to relax around the shady edge of the pool, but the sun loungers are at a premium in the afternoon, so you may have to lay in wait for someone to leave before pouncing. The pool is very relaxing, but you do have to endure the often loud engine noise from the longtail boats on the river, which is directly adjacent.

The hotel staff were always very polite, helpful and friendly and spoke perfect english.

Overall 7.5 / 10 - I would recommend this hotel.
