Spent 4 nights at The Oriental. Room was spacious (we were upgraded to a City View Deluxe but we had a view down the river from our balcony?). Limo had cold towels and fresh water then we were given ice cold apple juice at check in. Most impressed by the lift operators who knew which floor we were on and hit the button for our floor without being seen. Ate at Lord Jim’s seafood..yum and also on the veranda. Great breakfast on the riverfront. Disappointed we missed out on Le Normandie but they don’t take kids and despite 10yo offering to eat in I didn’t want to leave her on her own.

Transport up an down the river on the ferries was a bargain..cost about 1AUD for 3 people. Skytrain whilst a little more expensive was cool and comfortable. Chatuchuk markets were just another Asian market. Grand Temple and reclining Buddha at Wat Pho definitely worth a visit. Highlight for my daughter was the dancing at Sala Rim Naam (operates instead of the cruise during the wet season) as not only did she get a photo with the dancers but also was given a floral bracelet they had used in the dance.
Despite the pouring rain we made it across the river relatively dry due to the Huge Umbrellas carried by staff to protect you.

Oriental runs free rice barge transfers to skytrain and River City (which is not really worth a visit). One of the best 5 stars we've stayed in.

We stayed at various regions throughout our 10 days in Thailand in April. We always spend our last few days of any vacation at a luxurious hotel. The Oriental was definitely in that class. We stayed 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The flower arrangements throughout the hotel are magnificent. The band in the Bamboo Room is excellent. The service was beyond amazing. After saying all of that we don't think we would stay here again. This is only because we don't need this high class of a hotel to make us feel pampered. We stayed the first night in Thailand at the Shangri-La and weighing the price factors we feel the Shangri-La is more to our liking. However, if you have the money and are staying longer than we did (maybe a business trip?) then the Oriental should be your choice.

It hardly seems necessary to add yet another glowing review of the Oriental to the long list, but here it is anyway!

The most impressive part of the service is how understated and discreet it is. People just seem to materialise out the walls just when you need them. One of my abiding memories is the way that a spilt cup of coffee was immediately whisked away, table cleaned, and replaced with a fresh pot of coffee and clean cup all within about 30 seconds, and without any fuss whatsoever.

I stayed in a "Superior River Wing" room - in my opinion worth the extra for the little balcony with table and chairs that you get. The comfort of the room is absolutely splendid, but it was also great to sit outside and watch life across the river and the rest of Bangkok.

The Oriental was my first accommodation after arriving in Bangkok on a flight from London. I went for the "full experience" and booked one of the Oriental's cars to bring me in from the airport. Far more expensive than an airport taxi, I know, but in itself a lovely experience (cold water and towels and plenty to read about the hotel). It also provided the perfect seamless experience as my cases were whisked away on arrival and I was shown straight to my room for checkin formalities.

In retrospect, my only regret is that I booked the Oriental at the start of my trip. After this, all other accommodation was disappointing in comparison. Next time, I will stay there at the end of my trip, and that will give me something to look forward to!

My Husband and I have been staying at the Oriental Bangkok since 1976 and can only speak of the staff in the highest terms of praise. It is unique to be able to say we always enjoyed our stays and over the years we have come to know the wonderful staff very well.I think the staff have a most excellent General Manager who knows how to run a hotel of world class calibre and this shows through constantly should it be for simple advice or comlicated issues the Oriental shines. If you smile at the staff you will see what I mean everyone responds and it most certainly makes everyone feel very comfortable and indeed at home.We go back because it is a very relaxing hotel with the delightful Thai manners from its staff and in todays frenetic world we so enjoy that aspect more and more. The food is very good with a good choice of restaurants but if you want to eat out then Bangkok has a superb selection.I think when staying in Bangkok it is important to be on the River of Kings it is always a thrill to see the river busy from morning until night and just watching the enormous rice barges towing their cargo never loses its majic for me.I will be staying again very soon and look forward to it.

I've been wanting to stay at this hotel for many years and now I've done it, it lives up to all expectations. We had a standard room with a wonderful view of the river. Somehow the hotel knew it was our honeymoon and on our arrival we found flowers and a bottle of Italian wine in an ice bucket waiting in our room. This hotel's service is second to none, your floor butler will be knocking on your door within seconds of you pressing the "butler" button. I recommend an evening in the Bamboo Bar where we were entertained by a superb Amercan Jazz singer who sang all our requests.
The only negative point is that space around the swimming pool can be limited since this is very much a city break hotel.
