“My Fav Place to come eat, drink and relax in all of BKK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Steeped in history and nostalgia of a time gone by I read about Jim Thompson here and grew very fond of Thailand, I return as often as I can and the Oriental still has the charm, the peacefulness and the allure that I first saw. The menus are as relaxed or sophisticated as you might want, the decor is just awesme from the lobby through to the Jazz bar and restaurents inside and out. The staff are everything you could want for in a hotel of this standard(attentive, quick, helpful full of advice on travel and general day to day small talk) Plenty of activity watching the river traffic or the people traffic in and out of the hotel.

Room Tip: Guys you need to wear long trousers or you could be turned away.

We stayed here for 5 days as part of our holiday, this is the best hotel I have stayed in (and I have stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels with work). A great location on the river, a beautiful room, lovely pool and restaurants and without exception very friendly and helpful staff. We were even invited by the hotel management to a cocktail party, which was a really nice touch. If we ever go back to Bangkok, this is where we will stay!
The only negative comment, is that the treatments in the spa were very expensive. The spa facilities were lovely, but I still don't think it justifies the treatment prices.

My girlfriends and I stayed at this wonderful hotel and we were pampered right as we walked through the door.First we were greeted with a jasmine wrist garland by hotel staff in traditional Thai outfit. We had a suite on the 12th floor facing the Chao Praya River.the view of the river is fantastic especially early in the morning when the boats and barges start plying the river. There was a butler on the floor that attended to our every need. The pampering is endless! Fresh fruits every morning and a snack every evening.when the beds are turned down at night,a new quotation card and an orchid is left on the pillow.Silk bathrobes in the bathrooms, a separate room for our suitecases. There is a choice of where to eat in the hotel. We had breakfast at the hotel once and it was not cheap. we enjoyed watching the catfish by the banks of the hotel come up to feed. what a frenzy! There is a Thai cooking school in the hotel we heard is very good but due to time constraint did not attend. I will recommend traditional Thai dinner and performance at the Sala Rim Naam restaurant across the river from the hotel. There is a free boat ride from the hotel and back.It is best to make a reservation in advance. The hotel also has high end shops for those who don't want to go too far.The staff was very good with arranging a taxi driver that could be trusted who took us around town.Their attention to detail is excellent. I will go back with family next time.

Room Tip: We took a suite as there were three of us and asked for a cot.when sharing a king size bed with a fr...

We were delightfully pampered at every turn. The hotel is beautiful, the food top notch but what makes this hotel a standout is the intuitive staff who anticipate your every need and give you truly personal attention. It was an excellent experience.

We recently spent 3 nights in this hotel and had a really amazing time. I honestly think that the attention to detail that this hotel offers is as close to perfection that you can get. In particular, the service from staff in all areas of the hotel was outstanding. The position of the hotel is unequaled in Bangkok. We did visit some other hotels that we had considered prior to going, such as Banyan Tree but having done so I can assure you that you need to look no further than the Mandarin. Its in a different league. Obviously really expensive for Bangkok but pretty much London prices so not outrageous. All restaurants in hotel are excellent and breakfast is superb. The only negative feedback I gave them was that internet access is not free. Other than that 6 star.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor overlooking the river.

One of the best hotels in Bangkok and one of the best Hiltons in the world. Nice staff, new and elegant decoration, good restaurant, perfect location. Magic button in telephone works perfectly! I do recommend this hotel!

My family feels that this is the best hotel in the world, however on this trip I found things slipping. The Thai food is now very touristy, lacking flavours. Chef Vijit seems to have lost touch. The Riverside terrace buffet is not what it used to be. the Verandah is excellent. Wrong charges on my bill which I only saw later. these things did not happen here.
Could it be that the new managers are not upto scratch?
thank you Khun Ai.
