“Hotel With A View!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

Tall it stands on the banks of River Chao Praya. Rooms facing the riverside have a nice refreshing view. The sun enters your window quietly in the morning and kisses you good morning.
Rooms are fairly large and bathroom is nice.
Pool needs a little warmer water then the usual cold water.
The Breakfast spread is nice, but lacks variety for veggies. Staff is attentive.
Free Shuttle bus to Silom area covers up for its odd location.
Overall recommendable at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Use a higher floor room facing the riverside.

stayed at the montien riverside for 2 nights in oct during the diwali break, and my colleague was robbed 400 USD from within the bag which was under lock and key. and when we went to complain there was another guest who had the same problem.the thing is they dont rob all ur $$$, only a majority of it is robbed and a little bit is left behing for pity i guess. the hotel says they will look into it but i doubt that will ever happen. view from the hotel room is nice as its on the banks of the chao phraya, but when i went thailand had the flod problem and during breakfast i could see the banks of the river overflowing and the staff was using water pumps. breakfast spread was nice but the rooms are a bit old and the shower cubicle was quite small. only tea was given in the mini bar and on asking the reception they said that only tea is compliementary and coffee bags would have to be purchased at an extra charge. quite far of from main hustle and bustle of the shopping district. i would not recommend anyone to stay here unless they carry all their cash on them at all times.

Tripadvisor comment on 17 November 2011.

We are surprised to read about Mr. Zeeshan's comment in Tripadvisor dated 17 November 2011 that one of his colleagues was robbed of US$400 from his bag which was under lock and key whilst you were staying in our hotel from 29 to 31 October 2011. It was also mentioned that we would look into it.

We did receive a written letter from you claiming that 20,000 Rupees were taken out from your bag when you were checking out of our hotel with the group on 31 October 2011. When our Night Manager received the letter he approached you to confirm if you had lost the money and that he would need to get more information from you. However, you told him that it was all right and that you do not wish to pursue the matter any further. As we were not able to get more information from you so we were not able to proceed with our investigation on your claim of loss of money from your locked bag. We have since investigated our staff concerned and we would like to confirm that none of them had seen or taken any money from your bag.

We wish to add that we take all incidents concerning our guests very seriously and would thoroughly investigate all incidents and report to our guests the outcome of all our investigations.

We hope that we have clarified our position on Mr. Zeeshan's comment in Tripadvisor about your claim of loss of money from your bag whilst you were staying in our hotel.

Yours sincerely,

ANDREW LOW

Nice large room with view to river and city. Enjoyed staying at the hotel. good buffet breakfast included. Live music at the lobby bar, gym with decent pool deck area. the Italian restaurant has a great view with good food, didnt try the other restaurants. The concierge at the lobby was most helpful, They have shuttle bus service to their other hotel in Silom district, the lobby is getting dated, although everything was clean and looked after, the hotel probably needs a refurb soon - no flat screen tv, didnt have tea or coffee in the room even though there was a kettle there. The internet is very expensive and this would be my biggest complaint. nevertheless i would consider staying again,

Room Tip: all rooms have a good view from what i could tell.

Have stayed in Montien riverside for a fort night... It is just on the bank of a river... a very elegant and huge property .. huge lobby and conference room facility available.. it is frequented by guests from India ...Swimming pool and gymming facility available .. .. a bit distant from the central silhom area ... however value for money .... 3 - 4 different kinds of restaurant..
Amazing spread for breakfast and lunch ...

They arrange for dinner on a typical Thai boat ... needless to say it is chargeable ..
Regards

Room Tip: From every room you can view the river .. however would suggest to ask for rooms on the rear side

My wife and I stayed recently, October 2011 (twice) and enjoyed it enough to stay the second time. Had a king size bed the first time and the second time which was on short notice we had two standard (?) beds. Initially we were told there were no rooms available the second time we called to stay, but they somehow came up with a room for us. We had tried to get a room through an agency at the airport, but they said no rooms were available and the price was higher than the internet prices offered. We also paid 301 THB higher when we contacted the hotel directly versus the internet. Recommend booking via the internet.

Internet was kind of pricey for Thailand, 600 THB a day, but was reliable. The room mini bar is pricey as well. Service was very good and the staff were very helpful. The main lobby is very impressive but the rooms need a little TLC done to them. The bathroom / WC has a shower stall and a tub. Hot water was always available; however, the placement of the shower faucets is right under the shower head, so you have to be careful when turning them on. The shower head doesn't move enough out of the way. Also, the shower door opens into the shower, so if someone were to have a medical / drunken problem and fall in the shower, opening the door could definitely be a problem especially for a 'large guest'. There was a view of the Chao Praya river from both rooms we stayed in which was nice at night. They have restaurants and bars on the premises, but we didn't partake in those services. They did offer 25% off the restaurant tab if you had your room key to present. Also has a pool and gym. The gym looked pretty good from what I saw as did the pool which has a bar. They offer free shuttle service to nearby shopping, but taxi's are easy to get there. There is a souvenir shop right outside in the main courtyard. Also, a coffee shop with pastries right off the main lobby which was reasonable. I tried a piece of chocolate, cashew pie which was good.

All said and done, it was a nice and comfortable stay. We definitely would stay there again. I only gave it a four because of the TLC need and the pricey internet.

Room Tip: Use the internet for booking.

I had a lovely one-week stay at the Montien Riverside Hotel. I would say that the hotel was nice, it had a feeling of grandeur when we arrived. The room was comfortable and had a glorious view of the Chao Phraya River. I liked that there was a soft, medium and firm pillow on the bed. Service was friendly, courteous and efficient.

But...

The hotel is not near to the city. They had hourly shuttles to Montien Bangkok (near the Patpong night market), and 2-hourly shuttle to the Taksin BTS station near Shangri-La, but it was not that convenient that we had to make our way to the bangkok hotel for the shuttle back, it was also not next to a BTS. So if you had alot to do in the main city areas, you might need to reconsider staying here. but being not so near the city makes this hotel rather relaxing. The hotel might want to consider having hourly shuttle to the BTS instead of just 2 hourly.

While the hotel and rooms appeared grand, it might be time for refurbishment on some of the details. eg. cracked tiles in the bathroom; hair dryer smelled like a tinge of cigarette smoke (i had a non-smoking room but maybe it used to be smoking); televisions were CRT and had limited channels and there was no english movie channel like HBO, no CNN but they had BBC (which was fine by me anyways); I requested for an iron which came quickly but there were holes in place of cover for water and buttons for steam and spray; noticed that the bed linen had patched up sewing marks on them; and the 'steam room' at the pool area definitely needed upgrading, there were yellowing stains and cracks on the seats and it didn't look like it was working.

there was no free internet. WiFi was 400 baht for 24 hrs (if you select VIP package) and the wifi could only be assessed on one terminal at a time. i.e. you cannot access internet on your notebook and whatsapp with your phone at the same time.

there was also a strange dress-code that was not really applied equally. at breakfast my friend was asked to change his top as he was wearing a tank top with bermuda shorts, but the lady behind him was wearing a spaghetti strap top and short shorts and flip flops. maybe the dress code only applied to men? I understand a dress code for dinner, but this was only breakfast.

i have been a frequent traveller to thailand and used this hotel for the first time. well the hotel has a nice location in terms of proximity to the Chopraya river, but is far from the happening areas. The cab will cost you anywhere between 125 to 300 bhat depending on whether you get a metered taxi or negotiated one. at night it becomes difficult to take a cab for this hotel from the downtown.
otherwise the hotel is good but for 70 US$ you may get a better deal within the main city. No free wifi is a negative point for this hotel. none of the good hotels charge for wifi these days....

Dear Whyrobby,

Many thanks for your kind stay and review on Montien Riverside Hotel.

We are so surprised to hear that you found it was difficult to get a taxi to our hotel from downtown. I also wondered if you aware that hotel provides free of charge shuttle buses to and from down town every hour starting from 9.30 am until 10.30 pm daily. For local taxi, hotel also has about 20 regular taxis in control whenever guest inquires for metered taxi, our concierge counter would then call the regular ones to service our guests. This would help to prevent any unfriendly matter happening to our guests and in case guests have forgotten anything in a taxi, we can trace back from our daily control records.

As for Free Wifi internet access, I would like to explain that we do have a certain room category and rates that offer free of charge Wifi internet access. We are proud that we are a Deluxe class hotel by the Chaopraya river that offer the best rate comparing to other Deluxe class riverside hotels in Bangkok.

Please do let me know personally if you plan to stay with us in the future, so that I can ensure you of our warmest hospitality that Montien Riverside has to offer.

With our warmest regards,
Soros Cruachao
