“Jewel in the crown!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2009

We have recently returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel on our way home from Koh Samui. My husband booked it directly with the hotel itself and we weren't dissapointed!! The room was amazing, we paid slightly more for an upgraded room on one of the upper floors and it was well worth it. The hotel is currently having work done to upgrade the rooms and the only slight gripe we had is that we could hear drilling in the early evening which won't suit everyone if you are siesta people and like a nap before you venture out in the evening! The room had a fantastic view of Bangkok, especially in the evening, mornings were slightly smoggy! The staff were friendly, efficient and very helpful. We were met with a cool drink and a hot towel whilst we were booking in. The bathroom was well stocked with tolietries and a newspaper was delivered every morning. The MBK centre was just off the 1st floor and you walked straight into it from the hotel. It was quite an experience looking at all the different things on offer. We bought scalves, jewellery and some shirts but it's best to have a good look round and check the quality of what you are buying as there is lots of choice and some goods are better quality than others. If you look dissinterested when you ask the price it will soon come down a bit!! For anyone who has never been to Thailand the Thai people are wonderful! They are polite, respectful, well mannered and very hard working! At night on the walkway to the sky train there is a market of sorts with jewellery and t-shirts on sale, the sky train is very easy to get around on and we ventured out to various districts to see what else was going on. There are night markets but these are a nightmare!! We went to one on the first night and the humidity is unbearable, the pavements are crowded with stalls selling the same things, you can't see where your walking and the pavements are almost non-existent, it's not a pleasant experience!! We used the river boats to go to the temples and Chinatown, it's pretty straightforward with a map and there's always someone who'll give you directions if you get a bit lost! The hotel was a great base for our 4 day stay although Bangkok was incredibly hot and humid which did make it very uncomfortable. We would stay here again if we used Bangkok as a stop over.

Perfectly located ajoined to MBK shopping centre which is like 8 floors of shopping. Returned to the room about 3 or 4 times to drop off the shopping and go again, breakfast was good and the facilities/rooms were perfectly clean and new. We had a high room which allowed us to see bangkok from up high and the reception area was spotless and pretty much brand new everywhere.. lots of marble!

(booked this with [-] which is cheaper then travel agent and successfully booked all 5 hotels for our holiday perfectly and with ease)

Hotel is located near everything you need. Second floor is adjoining with the MBK shopping mall. Rooms and service were excellent. The staff help with everything amazing.
Breakfast was the best we had in Thailand. Hope to return to this hotel in the future.

We chose this hotel as it was recommended by family plus it was adjoined to the MBK shopping centre. As we only had 1 day in Bangkok we decided to go all out and stay at the Pathumwan Princess so we could spend our day shopping. The hotel was undergoing rennovations and as a result we were upgradind to the new superior rooms. The rooms were huge and as they were newly decorated it was absolutely spotless. We had a welcome drink on arrival and we were given a welcome fruit bowl and and a celebration cake with "Happy Honeymoon" on it. Rooms with supplied with dressing gown and slippers, LCD TV - and had the most incredible sleep ever!

If you are looking for a convenient hotel with all of the basics
eg. Clean, a big pool and decent food. Then this is the hotel in Bangkok.

The fact that it is joined to MBK Shopping centre is what gives it the complete thumbs up for me. If its your first time to Thailand or Bangkok then its perfect location wise for you.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, we were particularly impressed with Loop Restaurant which is adjacent to the pool we had breakfast and dinner here everyday and were never disappointed.

We had a short trip in between our stay in Thailand and Pathumwan were more than happy to hold our luggage until we returned for a few days at no charge.

Transfers were always on time to/from the airport.

The Studio Bar was one of our favourites very laid back for a drink and great entertainment from the Jazz Band.

The only disappointing thing we had was the hotel recommends Nice Fashion for Tailor made clothing and we were not happy with them at all.

Other than the tailor .. if your not a over demanding person Pathumwan is perfect.

The Pathumwan is in need of care. We stayed here 2 years ago and the deterioration was noticable. Our 2 rooms were just getting old with paint flaking, carpet marks, old room layout with small bathrooms. The staff are all friendly, and MBK shopping centre attached to hotel is fun.
If you are staying here in Jan-April, check with reception about noise. They are trying to install new lifts, and the constuction noise will affect some rooms for those wanting a sleep in.
Overall I think you could get better accommodation in Bangkok at the moment

My husband and I stayed at the Pathumwan Princess for three nights and celebrated New Years by watching fireworks from our room.

Our experience at this hotel was second to none and recommend it highly for the service at the reception desk, it's restaurants (& breakfast buffet!!), close proximity to the MBK shopping centre and all other shopping centres. \

There had been a mix up with our booking. To rectify the situation, they provided us with a beautiful room upgrade to a room on the 28th floor. This was on top of the complimentary fruit and cake as our honeymoon bonus.

We were informed that the hotel was under some renovations on the floors below us between the hours of 9am to 7pm. We didn't hear a peep!

My husband loved the gym and fitness facilities. The facilities are great for fitness fanatics!!! Truly!

The only downside I can think of was the expensive internet. But to get much cheaper internet at MBK at Mr Bean cafe...only a minute's walk!

I can't fault this hotel at all and would love to stay here again in a heartbeat!
