Okay, so I should have checked the terms and conditions of my online booking, which turned out to not include breakfast (is it just me or would you just assume it was included in the $100 per night price-tag). Anyway, we ate breakfast, which was pretty poor and self-service. After we finished, we were given a whopping 1500 baht bill with a 10 per cent service charge to boot.
I booked this hotel as part of my honeymoon package with trailfinders. The hotel was ok but just OK , I would not have liked to have stayed here with children or even teenagers.
The location of the hotel is in the heart of the red light district and is surrounded by bars and restaurants - and also prostitutes. It didnt worry me as I was expecting it - I was in Bangkok after all!!However what I did not like was the attitude of the hotel staff. This hotel is trying to promote itself as a good quality hotel. No other good quality hotel for families I have stayed at allows guests to bring prostitutes into the hotel!!My new husband and I witnessed this in the evenings -aging western men which lovely Thai Bar girls, at one stage one of these men had a bar girl on one arm and a lady boy on the other. The only thing the hotel management did was asked them what room number they were staying in, at which point the lady boy asked the bar girl before the aging English man piped up with his room number!! In other hotels they would not have been let though the door!! My husband was in the hotel gym trying to work off a little of the Thai food we had been eating and he was propostioned by a prostitute who for some reason was on the running machine in jeans and high heels!!She thought he was on business and told him he could get a massage and more for 1000 baht!!She handed him her number and her name which was PORN PAN!!I couldn't believe it!!
The rooms were just OK. There is a funny smell in them which I think was damp and was particularly noticeable when entering the room!!The room was clean enough although it would have needed a new carpet. They were a little small though . I think that we were in the new wing of the hotel. The breakfast was OK plenty of fresh fruit although the coffee was permanently cold didn't matter when you went for breakfast in the end I stopped drinking it.
The one good point of the hotel is the swimming pool although it is very small it is surrounded by sun loungers and palms and is a good place to get away from the Bangkok heat. One negative is that there are no staff around the pool. There are alot of Arab families who stay in the hotel and whilst I was there they just seemed to let the children run around anywhere- including the pool area. I have never seen such badly behaved kids- and I'm a teacher!!At one point I had to get up and speak to them as they were kicking the water out of the pool over guests who were seated around the pool area. A member of the hotel staff did speak to them but they just ignored him and argued back- he didn't stop them or call for management and they continued on!
The hotel is in a handy area for the Sky train which is a brilliant way to get around Bangkok.
Overall the hotel was OK but I would not stay there again there are just too many negatives!!
I've stayed at the Amari Blvd. perhaps ten times. Having said that, I don't stay there because the rooms are great. They're not. If I want great rooms, I would stay at the Oriental or Sofitel Silom or Peninsula, or in the Sukhumvit area the Sheraton Grande. There is a newer wing with better rooms (for an additional $35) but the standard
rooms are dated. No denying that. However, the main reason to stay at the Amari Boulevard it is in the heart of Sukhumvit and as you walk out the door there are hundreds of bars, restaurants, nightclubs
within walking distance. If you want to be in Sukhumit, you are in the heart of it with rooms that average around $100 a night, plus tax if booked through an internet site. The lobby is nice, but the checkin is usually slow. As someone said, the pool is small and you certainly don't want to go there because of it. Yes, and there are hookers in the neigborhood because, and you are in Thailand and you are in a nighttime district, so if you want a purified experience, stay in another area. I read someones comments on trip advisor and they seemed shocked by this. Clearly, they never studied the neighborhood they were checking into. Having said that, there is nothing excessive about this hotel either as it is an Amari with a minimal level of service but a very convenient site in Sukhumvit and you will always feel safe in the hotel and the neighborhood is fun. I know many people who live in Thailand who stay there when passing through Bangkok.
I've stayed at other Amari's before and they were actually nice, so I figured that this one would be too...but it was really a disappointment especailly for the price. The hotel itself (the lobby, and the rooms) have a funny smell. It doens't smell fresh.
Also the location is terrible unless you are a 65 year old perverted old man looking for a 20 year old proverty stricken Thai bar girl. Then this is the neighborhood for you.
I actually watched hookers meet their old, fat "johns" in the lobby and then they would go up to his room for some action. I saw this twice in one hour! The the hotel just allowed this. Before I stayed at the Four Wings - which is actually cheaper and not in a seedy neighborhood- and they would not allow the "johns" to bring up their hookers. I was pretty shocked that the Amari allowed this to happen.
Also, it is right across the way from the middle eastern sector. The hotel was either filled with Arab men with their multiple wives dressed in head to toe veils and the pervy old men. ( There was a group of ElderHostel guests...who I feel so sorry that they were given this hotel).
Would I stay there again? No Way! It was really overpriced for what you got (the things that I just mentioned) Incredibly so, actually.
