“Business amenities without being stuffy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2008

Stayed here on business and had access to the executive lounge, which was open 0600-2400 with drinks and snacks always available. Very nice, varied breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening canape's/hors d'oeuvres that were themed after a different Asian country each night. (I don't know if this access is customary or complimentary as hotel occupancy was very low due to political unrest in Bangkok at the time. BTW, the unrest had no effect on security in the city for foreigners.) The room was very comfortable and service was very available without being intrusive.

My husband and I cashed in Marriott points we've both been busy accumulating over the last year for 3 nights @ JW Marriott Bangkok. Very upscale, the staff is extremely accomodating. This is definitely more for the business-minded traveler. If you are looking for an authentic Thai accomodation this is not it. We were thrilled to have a cool high-end oasis waiting for us at the end of a few long hot days walking around gritty Bangkok. World class hotel in my opinion.

We have just returned from a one night stay at this hotel. We had an executive room on the 12th floor overlooking the pool which appeared to have been recently refurbished as the decor was stylish and the room itslef was very clean and fresh. There is a fabulous gym/exercise studio and spa on the 6th floor and an oudoor swimming pool/jacuzzi. The hotel is located between two SkyTrain stations (both less that 5 mins walk). For an overnight stay this hotel was great, however, we had stayed at the Millenium Hilton in Bangkok two weeks before our stay here (for 4 nights) and I would recommend the Hilton hotel over the JW Marriott due to the far superior executive lounge and the exceptional executive king suites which the Hilton has on offer. The views from the Hilton are also fabulous. However, if you are going to Bangkok on business, the JW Marriott is probably in a better location (the Hilton is on the 'wrong side' of the river).

  • Liked — Proximity to SkyTrain, Great Gym
  • Disliked — No interesting views (compared to hotels on the river)

The J.W. Mariott in Bangkok is a suberb hotel. The service is impeccable from front to end. The rooms are in perfect condition, nice, clean and simply enjoyable for the business traveller. The overall design of the hotel is very appealing. The restaurants offer great food at reasonable prices by European standards. The overall service provided at this hotel is absolutly outstanding and of the highest quality. I can only highly recommend this hotel in the heart of Bangkok!!!

Having stayed at the JW Marriott hotel in Phuket in the past, I expected something equally amazing in Bangkok. The hotel has a reputation as a top-class, five star hotel in a very central party of Bangkok.

I was a little disappointed though, for several reasons:

- You really could be anywhere in the world here. The only thing that reminds you you're in Thailand is the artwork on the walls, of which there is a lot.
- Most guests are from the US or the Middle East, and treat the staff accordingly (not well). This has, in my opinion, led to a slightly lower standard of service than I've come to expect in Bangkok.
- The overall decor is quite tired - although it must have been an impressive place once.
- We stayed on the Executive Floor (16th) and were surprised to find that there were lots of families with screaming children staying up here too. Rather odd.
- The local area is quite shady. There are more strip clubs and go-go bars in the vicinity than I'm used to.

On the other hand, the hotel was pretty amazing too...

- The pool and fitness facilities are amazing.
- Service from some members of staff is absolutely fantastic.
- The hotel is situated between two Sky Train stations, providing a great way to get around.
- The beds are incredibly comfortable - maybe too much so!
- It's a leading Bangkok hotel so is still infinitely better than anything you'd find in London.

I doubt we'll be staying there again as we definitely prefer Thai hotels like the Amari or the Lebua, but it was a good couple of days.

Recently stayed at JW Marriott in Bangkok. I have stayed at a number of Marriott hotels, but this is without doubt the best i have experienced.
The staff was awesome, the location excellent, and while a little on the expens side the japanese restaurant was great. The gym was really well equipped and they were happy to run an aerobics class for the missus, even though she was the only one there.
As it was the last leg of our honeymoon, we were given an upgraded room, bottle of nice red and a card signed by the crew responsible for our room. At most other places we got a lame [--] cake.....While this hotel is normally more than i look to pay for, if i was looking to to stay at a decent place, i know that this high quality hotel would be at the top of our list....P.S the ladies in the lobby bar are stunners....but the wife never saw the drool..

I have traveled frequently to Bangkok over the past several years and this is the BEST place to stay. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful, the rooms are spotless, the ambiance is wonderful. I have never had a bad experience at the JW. Also, it is convenient for shopping - if you want to get some soft drinks or snacks to keep in your room without paying "hotel prices", take the 2nd floor bridge across to Ploenchit Center. In the basement you will find Villa Supermarket with a full line of groceries and a large selection of wines. Also in Ploenchit Center, you will find McDonalds, Starbucks, Haagen-Daaz, several local restaurants, Mr Roon at HI-MARK Tailors, Boots pharmacy, and more. Very convenient to the hotel and you don't have to even go outside. I highly reccommend the JW Marriott in Bangkok!
