“Nice resort hotel in Bangkok for family vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Went with my family (3 elderlies) in November and stayed in the hotel for three nights. Although the hotel is a bit far from the city centre, it was quite convenient because the hotel offered free shuttle boat to take guests to and from a pier which is right next to the BTS station. Only 4 stations away is the central part of Bangkok where Siam Paragon is located. The other amazing part is the hotel also offered free shuttle boat to the night market nearby. There we found hundreds of shops and restaurants which opened from around 5:00pm till midnight.

The hotel is a resort hotel and is very large. The size of the pool is decent, breakfast was excellent. We also had a BBQ buffet dinner with cultural dancing show at a very reasonable price.

The room was clean and new. The room size was ok.

There is a shopping arcade right next to the hotel where you can get McDonald, Starbucks and many other family restaurants.

All in all, I found this place is ideal for family vacation. The atmosphere was relaxing. Good value for money.

This is a beautiful hotel and resort within a few minutes boat trip of central Bangkok. Rare. We stayed here nine years ago, and it is as good as we remembered. The rooms are attractively wood furnished with normal mod-cons and the public areas are spacious and airy. It has a peaceful riverside location with great views, and a large pool with swim-up bar. My favourite part however is the breakfast: I have never seen such an array of delicious food from around the world! If the vast buffet doesn't hit the mark, a small army of chefs will prepare omelettes, waffles, stir fries, etc to order. You need a good hour or two to do this justice.

The hotel has a free shuttle boat service to central Bangkok that connects up with the monorail. This is fortunate as this hotel has one clear failing... a distinct lack of good evening eating options. The Thai food at the pool bar is mediocre and expensive, and other options are all you can eat bbq or Italian. A decent Thai restaurant is distinctly lacking, but of course Bangkok is full of them.

This issue aside, this is a great hotel and we will look forward to our next visit.

Hotel is very nice, great rooms, wonderful pool and incredibly good breakfast.
Location is a bit off the center of Bangkok, but we knew that and wanted some quiteness.
Booked a river front room as package including breakfast, internet and resort credit directly on the hotel website back in September. I can´t remember why i booked this rate, there was many different rates, i guess i took this one as it was including breakfast and internet as well.
Process so far was well working, hte problems started when we arrived at the hotel.
Firstly- be warned, taxi driver hate driving to this hotel as it´s on the other side of the river, our dirver was so annoying that we made him drop us at Sathon Pier, as i knew they offer a boat shuttle from there.
When we arrived at the hotel by boat, our luggage (two really heavy bags, plus two smaller bags) were loaded out to the pier. No staff around anywhere, no directions or other information were given.
We´re not old or weak, so we started our way through the big resort.
First person we meet was staff at bar, he gave us direction, still no offer to send somebody to help with the luggage.
After ten more minutes, a couple hallways, doors and elevator ride after we eventually arrived at the reception. Was greeted with a Sawadee and handed out two passports and my credit card and asked to be checked in.
After five minutes of waiting at the desk- nothing happening- i took a seat opposite the desk, and nothing happened for another 10 minutes. We were the only persons to check-in, i´m wondering how long check-in might take if there is more people around, also considering that we made a direct booking with the hotel.
Finally, after another five minutes, we got take to our room, which was really nice, with a river front balcony. Been to many Bangkok five star hotels, it´s comparable to others and has all the things you would expect, maybe the room size is a bit small for Bangkok standards.
I asked for how to use the internet and got explained that internet is charged for some price. I´m not the type of person to print out hotel confirmation, i just remember which hotel i have booked for what day and had there. So i asked that i thought to have a booked a rate with internet included, receptionist (it was the same friendly woman from check-in until room) said that she´ll double-check and call. Shortly after, still in the room, she said that i should just use internet and she´ll put a note in the computer so they won´t charge for it. I also asked if any other benefits (as booking was made 4 months prior), in special room credit, would be included, which she denied. When she left, i felt really annoyed by the missing luggage service and the slowness of the check-in process.
Next downer came shortly after as we realized that windows in the room have poor isolation. It´s two brigdes with car, trucks and busses next to the hotel over the river and a load of traffic on the river- everything was very good hearable in the bed. Riverview rooms are facing the pool and should have nice views as well, but with less noise.
Breakfast was incredibly good, better than any other buffet at f.e. Intercontinental, Shangri-La, etc. - best i had in Bangkok!
So at check-out i realized that our drinks we had at the pool bar were not on the bill and asked them to be added. Receptionist explained that those were covered by the room credit we had with our booking. Well, that´s something i expect to be explained in correct manner in forehand.
Manager on duty offered after long discussion, us being under time pressure needing to leave to the airport, to spend our remaining credit of over 1000.- THB in the bakery? In the end the took half the credit of our room rate, but this did not make us really happy, considering the room rate was still over 250.- USD per night, for which you get way better service (and room) anywhere else in Bangkok.

Room Tip: Don´t take the premier river front rooms, they´re loud and don´t offer anything extra that the river...

i have stayed at the Riverside twice now, and will be booking another stay for my birthday this year. I just would not dream of staying anywhere else in Bangkok.

Every stay I have felt pampered, looked after and safe. I have had a junior suite each time overlooking the pool area and onto the river. The suite is comfortable and luxurious, with a bath you could do laps in. My only gripe with the room would be to include flyscreens on the balcony doors - i'm not one for airconditioning, but you cannot sleep at night with the door open - unless you want to get eaten by mosquitos!

The Riverside is a resort, I loved that I could while away the days without even leaving the comfort of the hotel. Quality restaurants, a fantastic pool area, gardens to wander through, artifacts to look at, and a small mall at the rear of the hotel. And I loved that I could take a so easy complimentary boat ride to the station to get me into the hustle and bustle of the city. And the breakfast buffet is something to be seen.

a tip - watch out for some of the local wildlife around the pool at various times of the day.

I can't wait to go back and celebrate my birthday there this year!

Room Tip: having a room overlooking the pool and river adds to the ambiance.

This is our second stay in the Anantara.. The hotel is drop-dead gorgeous. Located on the Chao Pria River, with a free river-shuttle service to the Saphan Taksin skyway stop, it is a peaceful retreat from the hustle of Bangkok. We have been traveling eight months, and their included breakfast is the most expansive we have had the luxury to enjoy. The gym is large and well staffed, the rooms are large and quiet, the beds comfortable. I have a beef with the lack of free Internet in the room, especially for the amount of money we're paying ( about $170. This isn't a hostel) As we traveled around Asia, we kept talking about how we would return here before we moved on to another part of the world. We have treated ourselves to this marvelous hotel. I hope they continue to serve other travelers as well as they have served us, and give their guests the same wifi that any youth hostel in Asia provides for free. One big tip: there are two Anataras; this is about the Riverside, not the Sathorn.

Room Tip: It never hurts to ask for an upgrade.

This place was amazing in every way, from the moment you arrive by being greeted like a royalty and given a refreshing drink to the moment you leave; you will be treated and pampered throughout your stay. The view from our room of the pool and the river is in my opinion unmatched anywhere in Bangkok. When using the river taxi, especially at night you can see the all of the hotels and resort and just a tall buildings except Anantara, it looks like a palace with beautiful night lighting. I defiantly recommend everyone to stay at this place.

Room Tip: Get a room on the 6th or 7th floor with a River view

There is not much that comes close to the absolute comfort, idyllic surroundings, serenity, and first-class service of the Anantara resort. From the moment we arrived at this gorgeous hotel, I felt just like a personal friend welcomed into a private home; we were greeted as soon as we stepped into the lobby, and shortly showed around the hotel and to our room by a guest services representative. The most amazing thing about this hotel, however, is its location. A soothing and pleasant boat trip just fifteen minutes from the SkyTrain, the Anantara offers exactly the kind of peace I appreciate after a long day in bustling Bangkok. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, with special omelette and pancake chefs (to mention a couple), and pretty much anything you can imagine, from granola to sushi. The restaurants are also wonderful, and I was incredibly impressed by the kindness and genuine smiles of the staff throughout our whole one-week stay. Top notch all around; I can't wait to return again.

Room Tip: River view rooms are worth the extra money; they're just beautiful.
