“An oasis in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We went on the recommendation of some friends also from Singapore and were not disappointed. This is a real 5 star not just a weak attempt at ticking boxes like many hotels do. We have also stayed a the Anantara Hua Hin and its equally as fantastic.

The whole aura of the hotel, the elephant bar and the pool area is relaxed and a bit colonial but extremely friendly. The staff are great and happy to help with ad hoc trips etc. They don't even insist on subsequent bookings through the hotel so you can negotiate with the local tour operator.

The Spa is fantastic, although pretty expensive compared to the services you can get at other independent very nice spas.

For those who know Bangkok, the sky train is the best way around. It's pretty easy to get to from the hotel. But you need to catch the safe free boat provided by the hotel. It goes every 30 mins all day.

Room Tip: We stayed in a river view room. Our friends had a riverfront room which has newly refinished rooms...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

I stayed at the Anantara Riverside for 5 nights at the beginning of November. My room was not ready when I arrived at check-in time, however I was escorted to the Numero Uno coffee shop for a complimentary drink while things were sorted out. It only took approximately half an hour and I was then escorted to my room where the layout of the room and resort was explained to me.

I had a Junior Suite on the 7th floor of the South Wing. It was huge and although I don't think it had been renovated recently, it was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable and the linen very good quality. The room had a balcony with two chairs, excellent lighting, reliable airconditioning, a couch and big flat screen TV.

The bathroom had a big bath, shower with rain shower and normal shower heads and quality amenities. There were two basins, lots of large mirrors and a hairdryer. There was also a small vanity nook with counter and stool.

I had breakfast included and there was plenty of variety. However, I felt that the service could be better. On two occasions, after seating me and asking if I would like tea or coffee, it never materialised. Offers of a refill were rare and chasing them was very difficult. Also, the dirty plates were left to pile up on the table and were not generally cleared until I left. I also felt that the staff were not very welcoming or friendly. To be fair, the restaurant was busy most times I was there, but maybe more staff should be employed to handle the load better.

I had dinner at Trader Vic's one night and it was delicious. The service was excellent and I was made to feel very welcome. I also had a buffet dinner with cultural dance show at the Riverside Market Cafe. The food was quite acceptable and the service was very good and friendly. The cultural show was entertaining.

The grounds are beautiful, and although I did not use the swimming pool, it looked lovely. A very pleasant lasting memory, however, was the trips I took in the shuttle boat to and from the pier to catch the BTS. The staff on board the boat were fantastic. They were so helpful, offering a hand to steady me when boarding and alighting and it was always a pleasure to see their smiling faces every day. The actual journey was very relaxing and the cold towel offered on the return journey, very welcome. The security officer at the pier was also a lovely person, always smiling and happy to provide information.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would return.

Room Tip: South Wing Junior Suite for plenty of room

My 13 year old daughter and I stayed here for 3 days. It was a great experience. The resort is close to everything and the river boat shuttle to the express boat is very convenient and makes it easy to get anywhere in the city. The staff there are very friendly and helpful. We would go back again. This location is ideal for family as at the end of the day it is relaxing and has a very safe feel to the atmosphere. The food is excellent and breakfast incredible. Location is close to all sites that you would want to visit with a family. All around a great trip for us.

I stayed at the Anantara for 2 nights and was thoroughly pleased with the experience. My accommodation search focused on finding a "resort in the middle of the city". I didn't want to stay in a "high rise hotel" or some "personality-less" chain, so Anantara's understated and casual elegance fit the bill exactly. The service is excellent, the swimming pool is the biggest plus (swim up bar, privacy and view of river), the use of the water shuttle is convenient (was actually a highlight to be able to ride to the skytrain on the river), the breakfast is great and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay here again and have recommended to a friend who has already booked a visit.

The only reason I give it an official "very good" rating instead of "excellent" (it really deserves "excellent") is because the food/drinks and spa are really (unreasonably and unnecessarily) expensive. I ate at one restaurant one evening and was shocked that the already expensive price didn't include a side dish! Also, the spa is crazy expensive, but there are plenty of inexpensive (and equally fine) places within a 5-10 min walk. If you don't plan to eat at the hotel (except for breakfast) or use the spa, there is no better place to stay in Bangkok. Truly.

At what other hotel can you feel like you are at a resort and then be in the middle of a dynamic city within 15 mins? Anantara is the perfect combination of city sophistication and resort relaxation.

Room Tip: If you're not fussy about having a river view (are you actually going to sit in your room and lo...

We had a fabulous 2 nights here at a very reasonable price. Would definitely come again, its a real haven after bustling trips around Bangkok. The kids loved the pool and the breakfasts were amazing. Wonderful service and attention to details. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

We stayed in Bangkok for 3 nights, 2 at Anantara. The positives-
- very nice location next to the river
- boat service to the city; convenient and pleasant
- evening short ride to Asiatique (highlight of our trip)
- connection to the shopping mall; super convenient
Negatives:
- prohibitively expensive spa
- mess up at checkin (we were escorted to 'our room', unfortunately it was already occupied.. Had to wait for apologetic and harried staff to quickly rustle up another room)
- another goofup during checkout (husband notice just by chance that our bill indicated paid by MasterCard so-and-so.. Umm I gave a visa!! Seems they had charged some other poor bloke.. We actually don't know if it ever got resolved. When we pointed this out, the staff was bewildered and couldn't really understand how to rectify it. We just repaid and left, but I hope the other chap got a refund!!)
- it was raining while we were there; it was impossible not to get wet trying to reach the lobby from the room.

The room, restaurants, room service were all nice; not super luxurious but worth what we paid.

service / overview excellent , suttle sevice and breafast are very well. Price are reasonable. Swiming poor very nice and clean. If bigger may more better.
It's wonderful for family or friend gathering.
