“Good value in Bangkok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2009

Not the newest, and some areas in need of refurbishment, but great value for money in Bangkok. A few minutes walk to BTS Skytrain, and Emporium shopping center. Lots of restaurants nearby. Nice views from rooms, nice pool area for downtown hotel. Room was ok, bed very comfortable, everything worked fine, but if you look closely, some areas need refurbishment. They have unbeatable weekend rates.

Location if fine, close to Sky Train station Phrom Phong, hotel itself just average, rooms
are very used, dirty carpets and a horrible old air-conditioning.
Breakfast is ok, swimming pool area is fine, sunny until 15:00.
Hotel staff very friendly and efficient, especially the Assistant Concierge does a very good job.
Definitely a rip-off: Charges for WLAN in the hotel...amazingly expensive !Phone call policy -if you use toll free numbers from the room- is weird. They charge you for every
touch with the phone...
From my point of view there are much better options to stay in BKK, even if the
value for money is kind of ok (try to get the cheapest rate on internet...)

The place is in a nice location, the food at the Indian restaurant is very good and the beds are great... but that's it.
I asked for an iron, and the one they brought was old and damage my blouse with rust. I called for help, they try to clean my blouse, but off course, it was rust so I loose it. They did not want to pay my blouse because I was the one who was using the iron (their iron). So please, do not use the irons at the hotel at least that you want to loose your clothes.
OK. Let’s said that the iron thing was an accident (but I still think they should pay for my blouse), what really upsets me was that they charge me the toll FREE phone calls I did from my room, including those who I could not communicate. It was almost 2000 deduce all the phone calls that least less than two minutes (because it was obvious that I could not communicate), so the bill went down to aprox 700 baths… but I still upset because I been traveling around five continents for years and is the first time a hotel charged me for making toll FREE calls (sorry for the capital letters, but I can’t believe they charge for something that is FREE for them).
Then they came with the excuse that there is a sign at the rooms, next to the telephone, where all the guests can read that toll FREE calls cost 118 baths. “OK if you show me that sign, I’ll pay”. They bring the famous sign that kindly explains in three languages how to make phone calls, but no signs of the charges. We wait 45 minutes until the manager finally shows us a heavy unidentified book that supposed to be located somewhere in the room (along with the restaurants menus and browshures offering massages) and somewhere inside page twenty something, it said that toll free calls cost 118 baths.
The manager -who never talked to me- even told my thai friend that “these tourists pretend to use their telephone cards for long distance calls so we (the hotel) can’t make any money from it”. I know they live from tourism, and we happily pay for good services (you can find excellent services all around Thailand), but this is not the right way to make money from us. What’s next: charge us for room-to-room phone calls?
So, do not use the iron, but most important, please read ALL the materials in your room. I know, you go to Bangkok to visit temples, or to shopping, not to read heavy books in your hotel room, but you won’t get any bad surprises.
Sorry for my English, and thanks for you time.

I loved this hotel simply for its location. Only 5 minutes walk to the BTS Skytrain station. Emporium Mall is adjacent to the station with many famous international brands (Esprit, Boots, Kinokuniya Bookstore etc).

There are many street food just outside the hotel, which makes food easily available from early morning (6am) to late nights (11pm).

There are also many massage parlours around the hotel with reasonable prices. Pubs and restaurants are also available just outside the hotel. A 24 hours mart is just 3 mins walk from the hotel. Most basic necessities are available at a very cheap price.

Hotel staffs are also very friendly and helpful. The lobby is spacious with a lotus pond greeting you as you enter the hotel. I have no complaints with the rooms. Bathrooms was quite spacious. The hotel provides 2 bottled mineral water daily. A safebox is also available in the room.

I have stayed at Novotel Lotus twice and wouldnt mind coming back again in the future.

When I first decided on moving to Thailand I lived in the hotel for 3 months. I got a great deal with breakfast & room upgrade & when I stayed the rooms were large & very comfortable.

I have since had friends stay there & it is looking a dated.

It is ideally situated for the Emporium shopping centre & the sky train. This is probably the best way to get around the city. The sky train now connects with the underground so a lot of the city is now covered.

Other people have complained about the food vendors on the street, this is part of living in Thailand, they set up on every corner & it is how the Thai’s eat. If you try the food stalls you wont be disappointed, taste great, however its best not to ask what you are eating some times.

The hotel is situated on Sukhumvit Soi 33, & that Soi is known as the art bars. Most of them are hostess bars, drinks are more expensive that the likes of Cowboy & Nana, however you can walk down the street without getting pestered by girls asking for drinks & “come inside sexy man”. Also a couple of good restaurants on the street London brew pub underneath on the corner, Tenderloins, Pizza, around the corned is a new Mexican also doing great food.

For the price you pay the service is very good, compared to the UK, it would be like staying in a family run B&B.
A lot of other choices in the same area, but definitely value for money.

Hotel Novotel Lotus is situated in Sukhumwit Soi 33 and that is a perfect location for both new visitors to Bangkok as well as wellknown visitors.
The hotel is nice with clean rooms and a delicious breakfast. Situated next to the Phrom Phong BTS station makes it easy ti acess all mainpoints and areas of Bangkok in an easy and fast way. Enjoy your stay :)
