“Thailand's Best Gogo Bar Strip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

My family lived up the street for a number of years, and many of our out of country guests (men and women) were interested in visiting a 'go-go bar'.

If loudly pulsating roomfuls of lithe robotic Thai dancing girls is what you seek to experience, Soi Cowboy is waiting for you to hitch your wagon and hoist a beer.: A 7-days a week, 'evening-only' experience (closed for certain Thai holidays).

The Go-go bars are not 'family' venues, but our kids were always delighted and fascinated by the lights and friendly action when walking through the Soi. There's something for almost everyone - whether your intention is to 'get lost', just 'take a look', or if you're looking for some juicy ammo with which to take moral potshots at Thai society from a Western-centric perspective. Careful though, what you may think you understand about Thailand and Thai Culture may be very different from what is real.

The Soi is brightly lit and reasonably safe... but with any Thai road watch out for the motorcycle traffic that sometimes weaves through the crowd.

In my experience, Soi Cowboy motorcycle taxis were a bit cavalier in their approach to driving, so best avoided. And, as everywhere in Bangkok, don't engage with the taxis parked along the streets - always pass them by without engaging and flag a cab that's driving by. Be sure that, before you depart, you're getting a metered ride.

Try the vending carts in the Soi for a sampling of Tukkadan (deep fried grasshoppers that are like crispy potato chips and somehow decent with beer) and other creepy crawly Isaan delicacies. If you’re unsure, have one of the bar girls show you what to order and how to eat it. It's a story that you'll remember for the rest of your life... "Did I ever tell you about the time I ate fried grasshoppers on Soi Cowboy?"

There's a decent English Fish & Chips diner just around the corner on Soi 23 if you're looking for food choices that are somewhat more mundane.... mushy peas are de rigueur.

“Wow...?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

I don't really know what to say about this place. It's really a colourful display of a redlight street and it feels non-intrusive even when the street is absolutely packed. The clubs are pretty allright but as I said, it is a meat market. Don't be fooled.

“Really fun littl street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Laid back go go area. We went to have a look at the place and found a lovely little bar at the end where we could sit and people watch. Thegirls didnt really shout at us because we were a couple but they approached some gangs of lads. We saw some really good sights, some quite shocking but really fun and a great experience.

“Ride 'em on Cowboy lane, Yeee Hah !!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

My partner and I are pretty broad minded and went to both Nana and Soi Cowboy to see the sights and maybe catch something resembling a dance type show. Well we missed out on that but did get chatting to one of the lady boys who had a great personality so we bar fined her and went singing and dancing at the pubs before stumbling back to the BTS just in time. Single mans heaven, it's not really for entertainment but more like, opportunity. Some decent bars with bands and reasonably priced drinks, it's worth seeing, we did not like the Ago-go's and didn't stay in any, but thats just us, we had a ball outside.

“Seedy but fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We had one evening in this area, it was pretty seedy but kind of fun. The girls are out on the street trying to attract men into the bars, there is plenty of outdoor seating round the bars so you can just sit and people watch.

There were a few food sellers and the usual guys trying to pedal fake watches.
There were two beggars who I bet made more in a year than I did, one of them dragging himself up and down the road on his arms!

We had a drink in a few bars, the prices were pretty cheap and there seemed to be offers on everywhere.

We did go into one of the girlie bars, I was the only female in there which didn’t bother me but after I while i felt depressed, the poor girls parading round the stage had number on them (think hook-a-duck) and when a guy was interested he gave the number to the hostess who got the girl down.

Every now and again the girls would rotate to the floor upstairs and a new set would arrive.
They all looked utterly fed up and far too young

Anyway... Soi was good for people watching (if you are a couple) or easy access to girls (if that is your kind of thing).

Not somewhere I would bother going back to.
