“Avoid breakfast buffet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

This hotel is completely first-class. 1 BR suite was large & comfortable, with good bedding and air conditioning, and a powerful refrigerator. The staff goes out of their way to assure you have a great stay. A minor nit regarding the room was their providing only 1 package of coffee per day (it is probable that had we asked, we would have gotten more), and the coffee is simply not that good (I think Illy is used, and Illy is a popular coffee, but it didn't appeal to us). Now, about breakfast: Since our arrival was to be 1a, we were certain we'd miss breakfast the first day, and therefore did not sign up for it (that and the US$40 daily price for two). One later morning, we decided to try them out. We started with more of that mediocre coffee in the french press (same as in the room), and changing to a double espresso improved things a bit, but the "coffee experience" was lacking (note this is a "tea" hotel, complete with tea bar, as might be expected in the Orient, and a general observation on our Thailand trips is that several hotels are unprepared for the expectations of quality & volume by coffee junkies from other parts of the world). The "buffet" involves choosing one of 4 items from a menu, and then adds only a few "buffet" items, such as fruit, a meager cheese selection, bread, and cereal; nothing at all like the spreads we've experienced at other 5-stars in Thailand. My omelet was acceptable, but my wife finished her congee in 3 bites, mentioning it would not have filled a newborn. My alert wife also noticed that the orange juice being brought to another table was a richer orange color than mine. When we asked, we learned that a la carte OJ is freshly squeezed, while juice for the buffet is from concentrate. Our breakfast bill was US$50, but apparently insufficient to cover the squeezing task. If you want breakfast in the hotel, purchase a la carte, and you should come out better in terms of both quality and price. We bought starbucks ground coffee across the street and used the press to make excellent coffee for the remainder of our stay. Store-bought (go to the mall across the street for a full grocery with cheaper beers than the 7-11; also highly recommend Bangkok Cafe on the same floor as the grocery) pastries provided just enough food to get us going, and we ate out (excellent restaurants in the area) the remainder of the time. We wanted to stay in the TA #1 BKK hotel, and we're glad we did, but we probably will not need to do that again. If you happen across my review of the Marriott Sukhumvit Serviced Apartments, you will discover that it literally appears to be a carbon copy of the ORB, with a washer & dryer added, for at least $40 less per night, and in another great location.

Room Tip: High floors overlooking the garden area are quite nice.

Dear Lee H,

We do first like to thank you for your review. We always value guest feedback - and especially when it concerns something that we can do better. We pride ourselves on offering incredible service and food in Cafe Claire always and, as such, we extend our sincere apologies that your experience with quality of the food at our breakfast buffet was less than enjoyable. We also appreciate your comment regarding our coffee; we use Lavazza coffee in our guestrooms and Illy coffee at Cafe Claire. Both brands are premium brand for coffee. This is very rare feedback for us to receive about the quality of our coffee. We take your comments very seriously and please be assured that each these issues that you experienced have been discussed with our Food & Beverage department. We strive to make our product as exceptional as our service, and we do hope you will visit us again so that we will have the opportunity to impress you and to leave you with memorable visit.

Warmest regards,

I stayed here a few months back but have only just joined this site... The rooms were fantastic and had everything you would need, plus the best bathroom I have had in a hotel. The pool area and bar staff there were great and the staff in general were very well dressed, helpful and their English was excellent.
The only negative comment is that the dress code is confusing for various areas of the hotel and if take it literally, you would never leave your room as you wouldn't know what you are allowed to wear throughout the building.
I would definitely stay here again.

Dear Peter H,

Thank you for your feedback. We are so happy you enjoy visiting us and have also had the chance to experience a few of the little touches that we hope make a big difference in a memorable stay! Refer to your comments about our dress code; it is casual throughout the day anywhere in our property and smart casual in the evening for our two restaurants. We apologize for the confusion as we want each guest experience to be seamless. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon, and we hope that each trip to the Oriental Residence Bangkok is even better than the one before.

Warmest regards,

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in March. Greeted by two or three staff before we even got to the frontdoor. Sitdown check-in. Escorted to the room where we had two small surprises waiting for us as it was our anniversary. One bedroom suite was HUGE, beautifully appointed and had a fully functional kitchen, living room dining area with a nice view of surrounding park.

A steal at about 140$ a night if you ask us. Very nice pool area on 3rd floor. (only disappointment was that drinks were 12-15 $ a piece). Shuttle service to skytrain really convenient. and helps Service for meal delivery from outside restaurant and wake-ups calls all impecable.

Had dinner on our last night at their Mondopop restaurant. Sadly restaurant was virtually empty when we visited, but decor and food quality were great (foie gras shu mai anyone?).

We would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat and recommend to even the most discerning-difficult to please travellers.

Guest feedback is the most important of all, thus we all would like to extend our appreciation for taking the time to comment on each aspect of your stay. Please know that we take your feedback to heart. We are glad that the service was excellent and that you also enjoyed our modern Chinese restaurant, Mandopop. Unfortunately I only had the chance to stay one night. The service and attention to detail was impeccable. Gorgeous rooms, that were very comfortable.
Ordered room service which was expensive but good.
Would definitely go back.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Travelled as a couple for a brief time out from work and the kids in June 2013.

As first impressions go, it's hard to beat the one presented to you as you enter the hotel lobby, from the iMacs used at the reception desk to the minimalist decor with hints of decadence in it's chandeliers and furniture to the quiet, assured way the staff carry themselves you just know you're in a for treat before you even the see your room.

The room review is for the 1 bedroom suite which the hotel kindly upgraded us to from their standard room which we booked. The suite has a good sized open kitchen area. Appliances include a washing machine, oven, refregerator and induction hob. A full set of cutlery and pots and pans for those who want to cook up a storm are also available. Apart from that, the other item of note is the impressively sized bathroom area, it's larger than some budget hotel rooms. You could run laps in there.

Sleep quality was excellent with a king sized bed although the pillows were a little soft compared to what we're used to in our casa back home. The room was well insulated from outside road noise.

The little contact we had with the staff during our stay (not their fault, we're low maintenance) was excellent. The staff are a credit to the hotel, everyone had a ready smile and more than courteous and polite in their dealings with us.

The only negative thing I would put down for the hotel would be the location, I'm sure it's a fantastic place for those with business in the area but for those who are in BKK for a little bit of shopping and eating the walk to the nearest BTS station is just long enough to be annoying but short enough that getting a cab is a little silly, trust me when I say the 7-8 minute walk to the BTS station gets old by the start of the third day of your stay. Hence the relatively low rating for the location.

For those who want to have a taste of what the locals have for breakfast and lunch, there's a cluster of roadside stalls just across the street from the hotel selling everything from sandwiches to noodles to sweet desserts and freshly cut fruit at very affordable prices. It's chock full of locals in the mornings picking up their breakfast on the way into the office.

We stayed for three nights in room 705 for just USD400. It was our first time there and we were glad we stayed, based on other tripadvisor travellers' reviews. Everything was perfect from the tasteful decor to the thoughtful mango and sticky rice complimentary dessert upon arrival to the heavenly pillows as well as big fresh white towels. The room was spic and span while amneties were plentiful from room slippers to cooking utensils to tooth brushes. If there was a slight complaint it was the powerful AC over our bed that blew strong cold air on our heads when we slept. Other than that, we would highly recommend anyone to stay at the Oriental Residence.

Room Tip: Our room was facing the street and we were able to hear vehicles pass by so i would recommend that y...

The title of my review is a reflection of my words when arriving at this hotel! It is absolutely beautiful (stunning) in decor & style and outstanding in service. The room was gorgeous, fully equipped with a small kitchenette and lots of bathroom amenities, including a large walk-in shower. Soft, comfortable bedlinen and restful beds. Loved the wee inspirational cards left by Housekeeping every evening! Every staff member was helpful and professional at all times, always smiling and extremely pleasant in a really genuine manner. Delicious buffet breakfast at Cafe Claire, again loved the atmosphere, decor, music - and (most importantly) the food! The lovely ladies there every morning, so cheerful and sweet, with prompt caring service including remembering my coffee order each day!

It conveniently located on Wireless Road, although not right in the centre the (shopping/entertainment/mall) action, a very easy walk or shuttle ride to the nearest BTS station, however every time a taxi was requested it arrived promptly and the Security staff gives you a paper with the hotel location and taxi number written as a reference. After a busy day out, the Oriental Residence was the perfect relaxing haven to come back to!

Having stayed previously in a few other hotels in Bangkok, the Oriental Residence Bangkok is now my number one choice!
