“A little slice of calm in crazy Bangkok :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

My husband, two-year-old daughter and I stayed here for 13 nights in December 2012 / January 2013 (so a belated review) and had a wonderful time. The hotel staff are super friendly and made a huge effort with our (at times) difficult toddler!

We stayed in a spacious one-bedroom corner suite with well-equipped kitchenette and great park views. From our balcony we could spot a gigantic Monitor lizard taking a daily dip in the pond below, much to our daughter's delight.

The main pool is nice, although the water was freezing when we were there, and there is a shallow, covered kids' pool tucked away in the corner. The bar service there was a little patchy, but not a major problem, and this may since have been rectified.

We had room service on a few occasions, and the food was great. We ate once at Café Claire, but we were not impressed by our meal and the service was poor (slow and they got our order wrong).

That said, however, we would certainly return to the Oriental Residence, and have recommended it to friends.

Dear Flufferoo,

We do first like to thank you for your review. We always value guest feedback and especially when it concerns something that we can do better. We pride ourselves on offering incredible service and food in Café Claire always and, as such, we extend our sincere apologies that your experience was less than enjoyable. We know that guests have many options for hotels in Bangkok and we will work tirelessly to ensure the Oriental Residence Bangkok is and remains the best. Thank you once for your fantastic feedback, which we will use to improve each and every day. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back again in the future.

Warmest regards,

This is quite the urban oasis from the pamdemonium that is Bangkok....

From the seamless pick up at the airport in the ORB's own car service that whisked us to the entrance of the hotel in less than 40 minutes... So from plane to hotel took less than 1.5 hours....

The rooms are spacious and modern without being to clinical with huge picture windows, we stayed on floor 20 with city view and had amazing views over the city. There was an electrical storm on the first night we arrived and opened the curtians to see the city from a whole new perspective... Just incredible....

There was lots of nice touches in the rooms which made this feel special, the bed and pillows were one of the most comfortbale i have ever slept in and has ruined me on all future hotel stays elsewhere. Housekeeping was thorough and very discreet throughout our 4 night stay.

We were there over Sonkran the Thai New Year which is an experience that everyone should try once in there life, especially if you like water, housekeeping thoughtfully left out little water proof pouches to store any valublaes in when out and about and i can assure you i have never cherished a hotel gift like this before.......

We had breakfast in cafe Claire each morning which is styled like a french cafe, whilst the buffet has a simple continental offering there is a full menu available which is served to the table.... We also eat in Mandopop the contemporary chinese restaurant one night which was exceptional... Especially the dim sum and fillet of beef main course which were exceptional....

The staff were so obliging and attentive without being overbearing which for such a new hotel a hard combo to find...

I cannot wait to return to The Oriental Residense Bangkok as it will firmly become by Bangkok hotel of choice.....

PS - Four Seasons brunch on Sunday is still historic and must for anybody visiting Bangkok....

Room Tip: We had a city view which was so dramatic at night so much so we slept with the curtains open and our...

Stayed at The Oriental Residence in Bangkok for 4 nights during Festival 2013. What a wonderful Hotel! It is an oasis of calm situated between the American and Dutch Embassies, but with amazing shopping a short walk away. I have NEVER experienced such a comfortable bed, so much so my Husband insisted we order the same pillows for our bed at home!!!! The Chinese Restaurant Mandopop is divine, über cool interior and stunning food. Thank you to all at the Hotel for making our stay so enjoyable! We will be back!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Traffic was light in the wake of the Songkran Festival so our taxi ride from the airport to Oriental Residence lasted only about 35 minutes. Check-in was conducted smoothly and professionally, taking about 10 minutes from the time we walked into the lobby till we were shown to our assigned room. Staff are helpful and friendly (albeit in a slightly reserved manner, as if in the presence of dignitaries - just my observation, not a critique).

The hotel lobby boasts a tall-ceiling, bright lighting and almost clinical colour scheme with a dominant, comfortably pristine palette of white, off-white and ivory.

Our Grand Deluxe Room has a well-appointed kitchenette with chopping board, hand towels, electric kettle, small refrigerator, sufficient crockery, WMF cutlery, etc, to be really useful. WiFi was slow, however, and we were limited to using one device each - a reasonable restriction, perhaps, but not user-friendly when I had to log-off one device in order to use another - which I have not encountered in other hotels before.

The Oriental Residence houses both a hotel as well as residential apartments, a growing trend among many new developments including the St Regis, Ritz-Carlton, etc. That may explain the dress code which favours formality over casual dress. For example, men in shorts will be denied entry to Cafe Claire - which is well within the management's prerogative but seems at odds with the sweltering weather outside.

Dear biketrekker,

Thank you very much for all your comments and this thorough review. We appreciate your honesty and glad you had the opportunity to voice your opinion. We understand your concern about our dress code policy. Smart casual attire is appropriate throughout the property. Guests can still wear shorts to Cafe Claire throughout the day except dinner period. It is normal practice for luxury hotels in Bangkok.

We appreciate the feedback and look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip to Bangkok

Great hotel in a very good position in Bangkok. Just five minutes walking to the sky train station. Everything is new, rooms are very confortable, personnel very professional and always helpful. The swimming pool is something to try, in a beautiful positin on the fourth floor with a view on the city and the gardens around the hotel. When I will return to Bangkok I'll have no doubt on which hotel I will go.
