“Cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

The hotel is in the centre of nightlife. Everything is available on your doorstep. The hotel seem to encourage 'short stays.' I had booked for the night but was first offered a room for one hour. One can only imagine why you would want a hotel room for one hour. I stayed in a windowless room. The price suited me. The room was clean, but small. The bathroom was small too. but hot water after a short wait and no cockroaches. The bedding is very light. Just a cover, no substance. For just go in, sleep, go out, it's perfect. Maybe the dearer rooms are bigger, but then I prefer Dynasty Inn which is better all around. (Soi 4). Subway coffee is great at the end of the soi. Hotel restaurant very expensive.

Room Tip: If you are on a budget, or just need a sleep without bells and whistles, stay in the budget room. If...

We stayed here for 1 night in july. We did need something cheap with a good location, as the girls wanted to go shopping on our last day in thailand. Its a great location in Sukumwit, and shopping is nearly right outside the hotel. Small room is perfect for a couple. This hotel is perfect if youre on a budget, and dont plant to stay a lot on your room. We were outside all day, and did just sleep here. Very comfortable beds, and didnt hear anything of the outside party sounds.

I stayed here for one night and just needed something cheap close to the BTS. In that respect it was perfect, I had nothing booked and saw the sign from Nana BTS which is about 50m away. I got a standard room for 900 baht (It's 999 with breakfast but breakfast doesn't start until 8am).
The room and bathroom was clean but rather dated. The dark purple walls made the room seem very dark and the mirrored ceiling could've done with a polish. The very old tv had no remote. There are no tea/coffee making facilities. The giant old AC unit made so much noise that the room vibrated. The staff were nice and friendly. Free wifi in the lobby/restaurant downstairs but not in the room.
For a cheap place to stay close to Nana BTS it's ok but for a few hundred baht more there are better choices, for example City Lodge 9 just up the road.

We were looking for affordable accommodation in the center so that we could watch some rugby (late game from South Africa) and ice hockey (early game from New Jersey) at one of the many local sports bars, while maximising our sleep in between!

After enquiring at many local hotels & guest houses (minimum price for 2 people 1000 baht), a local pointed me towards the Star Inn, conveniently located next to Nana BTS station. They had one "budget room" (#301) for 799 baht - only available because it was awaiting some repairs for "water going on to floor" ;-) Luckily the repairs had either been done, or deemed unnecessary - there was a damaged area of floor tile near the bed, and one side of the sliding shower door was missing, so we assumed that the issue was one of these - neither caused any problems for us during our stay.

The receptionist seemed quite concerned that we might like a larger, more comfortable room but we explained that we were happy with the cheapest room. So we checked in, and went off to enjoy the rugby in the new sports bar "The Game" just down the road.

When we returned at 1am we were pleased to see that our hotel didn't have any "hostesses" outside to entice customers into the restaurant, unlike the World Inn across the road. In fact, the hotel restaurant was peaceful enough at this hour for us to enjoy a Skype chat with family in the UK (wi-fi only available in the restaurant/lobby).

We had a great night's sleep and managed a bleary-eyed stumble a short distance down the road to an early-opening pub to watch the hockey. We even had time to come back for a short nap before checking out at noon!

Frankly, we felt that the price for an air-conditioned room in this area was very good, and the staff were lovely & helpful even at odd times of day. True, there was no window in our room (but the receptionist did bring this to our attention) and the decor was a little bit "tired" - but everything was clean and we found the mirror over the bed hilarious! Plus it is so convenient for the BTS which was great for our trip to the train station the next day.

Note that there is a nightclub next door so the rooms on that side might be noisy. We could hear the music in our room but not so loudly that it disturbed our sleep, and in fact the lack of window was probably a bonus in that case.

For lower prices, stay near Khao San Road. If you can afford 1000 baht+ for a double, there are plenty of options nearby so shop around. But for a budget room at the heart of the city, we will stay at the Star Inn again!

Room Tip: Of the budget rooms, 301 is in the center at the back so well-insulated from outside noise.

Located on a narrower Soi 7, this hotel has a very unusual entry, pass through the Bangkok Brasserie restaurant you get to a small reception. Checkin was a bit slow, but was upgraded to superior for the same 999 baht price offered by booking.com. Thank you for that.

Lift is smallish, fitting a big samsonite and a person max. Room is basically a double bed with a feet of space on each side. A big cupboard, safety box in reception. Big window overlooking Nana BTS. AC runs fine with decent bedding and towel. Toilets were So-so, the flooring seems a bit run down.

Breakfast included was continental (toast-fruit-coffee) sufficient to start your day. Reception staff double up as waitresses in the restaurant. Pretty helpful withdirections even with their limited English.

Booked me a reasonable taxi to suvarnabhoomi ..

Room Tip: Go for the superior room or look for other options as the rooms are pretty small.

I stayed just one night at Star Inn. Terrible experience!
The location in great, if you are looking for a budget option close to BTS station. It is right off exit 3 of Nana station.
But the room they gave to us was terrible. It had no window, the bathroom was dirty, up to the point of having to shower with my flip flops on.
Because it has a couple of bars (hooker places), around, one in front and another one right next to it, it is very noisy at night.
The scenario surronding is not pleasant , since you see many western guys, mostly older, circulating with young local girls with questionable jobs.
