“Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013 via mobile

Over priced mediocre (at best) food and supposedly the world's rarest tea served after ginger lime sorbet which will just scorch any any sensitivity out of your taste buds. Mind boggling. Just left me angry.

“Afternoon tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

We went there for a tea on our first evening and loved it. Pricey, but excellent service and even more excellent tea selection. It makes you feel like royalty in a relaxed place, river front, a privilege. Totally recommended for a full stop within your Bangkok days!

“disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Despite a beautiful surrounding in the historical wing of the hotel, only the scones were out of this world, the rest of the afternoon were just average, but the really bad part was the service, which came as a surprise for a place like the Oriental.

“Relaxing environment - Tasty Tea and Treats”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

Notwithstanding the price, this is nice and relaxing atmosphere for a Sunday after tea set assuming that you live nearby. The location of the property is one of the unfortunate issues as I would partake more often if it was closer.

The teas sampled were exceptional with wonderfully fruity pallets. The accompanying sweets were all excellent. All were fresh and in my opinion very likely based same day or prior day which is difficult to find in Bangkok as the term "received today" is often made equivalent to "baked today".

The only fault I have with this is the raw amount of smug exuded by the European guests who fancy themselves as something they are not. This is not the NYC Mandarin at 1000 USD per night. Package deals put this property below 200 often but as you walk around the property the smugness on the guests, pretending that they are the light and the stars, the judgment on their faces, makes you want to go elsewhere. I was wearing full business dress and still perceived this.

Similarly the pseudo-artistic and trying to project types will fill the Authors' lounge.

In summary - the quality of the tea service is impeccable. The staff are wonderful. The quality is wonderful. Your fellow guests may annoy and surely your walk from the river or the valet alike will demonstrate the infection of smugness I refer to.

Go at least once.

“The best high tea in the world!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

If u want to try the most traditional high tea in Bangkok, the Author's Lounge at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is the best selection for you! The atmosphere is very comfortable that you must have a good time with your friend.

Well training for staff that the services and explain with detail for food description and teach you how to eat the good according. Although it is expensive, however, everything are worth of value!!!
