“The 5 stars are for its Bar called Eagle's Nest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

I did not stay in this hotel (its on the other side of the BKK City) but i sure did visit the Bar on top of this Hotel. The name is EAGLE'S NEST. and what a breathtaking view. This hotel is a new venture by Arun Residences. While their 'The DECK' may be an established place, but this new thing is awesome. After you are done sight seeing at Wat Pho and The Grand Palace, head over early to this Hotel top and reserve your seat for the spectacle to follow. This bar is a small place thou, with a variety of drinks and a limited finger food menu. But who cares when what you have in front of you, just on the other side of the river, the Majestic Wat Arun. Sit thru the evening, soaking in the various colours that unfold before ur eyes as the temple travels thru the yellow sun light to the evening hues of pink and blue and finally the amazing artificially lit up riverfront. This is a photographer's sweet spot. All worth the beer priced around 150 Baht. Go for this one, and be sure to go a li'l early.

Room Tip: Its a few minutes walk from Wat Pho in a dingy lane but the hotel is nice. You need to go there a li...

We stayed in the suite for 5 days and it was beautiful however there were some maintenance issues which was disappointing as the price was quite high so were our expectations. There were renovations going on next door which the management had no control over. After complaining about the noise starting at 6am and telling staff we wished to leave the management orgainised a voucher towards the cost of a meal at the Deck restaurant We decided to stay we had previously been told the suite was not available the last two nights of our stay however we were not informed that the reason for this was that there were renovations to be made there so the noise continued. There were also problems with televisions not working ipod docks not available. The breakfast was also very average for such a place. Some staff were extremely helpful but they had no control over the situation. On my last visit I couldn't rate Sala Arun highly enough unfortunately this was not the case on my recent visit.

Room Tip: Check on renovations before staying. Higher floors have better views

The Sala Arun will not warm your heart on first site. It's within Old Bangkok's working markets. As a westerner, it may cause second thoughts at first sight. But don't judge the book by it's cover. Inside the hotel is beautiful and quaint. We stayed in the Sala Suite for the the view of the Temple of Dawn and it is exactly what you see in the pictures. The suite is quite large with all of the amenities you could want. The bathroom is large enough for the everyday football team. Our experience was that breakfast was warm and friendly with the guests like a bed and breakfast. The hotel covers all of the bases inside. Outside you'll love what you'll find if you are a person looking for culture. The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are within short walking distance. Taking a boat over to the Temple of Dawn is even quicker. Tuk Tuks are at each corner in the area awaiting your exciting ride. Trust these guys driving abilities against everything your brain tells you. We didn't see any accidents in Thailand in over a week and it's really fun. Seeing the markets for what they are and the cultural differences from the west is really getting out an traveling. The smells, the quick movements, the sounds, it's what drives Bangkok's food industry. and the pictures of the locals and the food being served, especially at night are fantastic. If you are a serious traveler looking to experience culture but want to have a 5 star sanctuary, this is it.

Sala Arun is located at the end of a small soi right opposite the grand palace. It is within walking distance of some of the best sights in Bangkok, including Wat Pho, and a very short ferry rode across the river to Wat Arun. Our room had an amazing view of Wat Arun. Most nights we spent some time sat on the balcony with a beer admiring the view. The room was beautiful- massive comfortable beds, a huge bathroom with enormous walk in shower, complimentary toiletries, robes and slippers. The furnishings and decorations were authentically Thai, and the rooms were sparkingly clean. Each day we returned to the room and the towels had been replaced, bathroom cleaned. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was tasty with a small choice of cooked food, plenty of fresh fruit, cereal, toast and yoghurt. In all we really enjoyed the three nights we spent here. It was our first stay in Thailand, and Bangkok was our first stop. Sala Arun was a great start to a fantastic holiday. If I was to return to Bangkok, I would definitely stay at sala Arun!

This is your place if you want a quality and comfortable place to stay that is walking distance to Wat Po, The Grand Palace, and Wat Arun!

LOCATION: Wat Arun stares at you from across the river waiting for you to take a 5-minute walk down to the ferry across. Wat Po is literally right across the street. The Grand Palace is only a 10-15 minute walk away; only because it's so big and the main entrance is on the opposite side. If you're smart, you'll take advantage of the location and get to the temples as soon as they open to avoid the hordes of tourists. Not only is the location great for accessing the temples, but the surrounding streets have a local and laid-back feel with plenty of little markets.

SERVICE: The staff was very accommodating when we told them that we wouldn't be able to check in until 11PM and storing our luggage when we checked out in the afternoon. They speak English and can help you make reservations or contact restaurants/stores.

ACCOMMODATIONS: We stayed in the Srivichai & Lanna rooms; both have fantastic views of Wat Arun from their balcony. However, we were upgraded to the Sala Suite, which has even better views. The beds were firm (but comfortable) and the sheets were silky and fantastic to retire to after a long hot & sticky day of touring the city. Breakfast is included and was delicious!

I couldn't recommend a better place to stay in Bangkok if you're looking for quality and access to the major temples.

Room Tip: Choose one of the rooms with a view of Wat Arun (Srivichai or Lanna), or if you like to "go big...

Although, upon first arrival you will think you have been taken to the wrong place, once you get there, the views and general location make up for the trip down the alley you take to get there. Our rooms had amazing views of Wat Arun, really stunning. And you are across the street from Wat Pho, and just down the road from the Grand Palace and the temple of the emerald Buddha, all must sees while you are in Bangkok. In the mornings, if you walk towards the Grand Palace, you will see the Buddhist monks asking for alms and giving blessings to people who give the alms, quite a site. The staff was also very helpful and the breakfast was good. There is some construction going on next door, so if you are in a room adjacent to that wall, it can get loud during the day. But the noise stops early in the evening...

Located just up a quiet alley near Wat pho, with amazing balcony views of Wat Arun. I really enjoyed this position as it was easy to access most things but nice to come back to the quiet retreat and enjoy the views over the river. 1stly stayed in a Delux room where we had requested an extra bed. When we arrived we were surprised to find that the extra bed was actually the couch. However it was comfortable enough and everything in the room was good quality and the views over the river were lovely. After some travels, I returned to the hotel because I loved the location and this time was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the Suite room, It was a great room with a big balcony with a swing seat and outdoor setting and beautiful big window with full view of Wat arun. This was a great retreat for my last day in Bangkok. The staff were lovely but sometimes there were not staff speaking good english, particularly at breakfast time. The breakfast was average but adequate. There was breads, fruit and juice and a choice of cooked meals from a small menu. Because there was building happening next door causing noise during the day, they gave a voucer for a free meal at the Deck restaurant which was very kind. The noise stopped early anyway. The Deck restaurant is great.

Room Tip: If you need an ectra bed make sure you find out if you actually get an extra bed or if somone will b...
