“Great way to get around, cheap and efficiant.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

"Tha Phra Athat Pier" is the closest embarkation point for Khao San Rd and depending where you are staying would be a maximum 15 minute walk. Be aware the entry point is a narrow alleyway. At 15 Baht per person to the "Grand Palace" (Tha Chang Pier) it is very cheap. You can pay on the ferry although they seem to prefer it if you paid at the ticket office. Look for the ferry with the Orange flag as that has the best coverage. The flags indicate the service. There are other company's but they seem to have very limited coverage plying their trade between 1 to 2 points on the river. Note:Tha Phra Athat Pier seems to be cheaper (1500 Baht) if you wish to privately hire a Longtail Boat to do the Thornburi canals. I highly recommend a 1.5 hour tour.Further down the river appears to be a lot more expensive.

“Good way to see Bangkok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013 via mobile

We caught the Express Ferry up to the Grad Palace for 40baht. It sure does beat brig stuck in traffic. The staff are helpful & on the boat have a microphone & tell you fun facts about sights along the river and where to get off to see particular things to do etc. it's a lovely way to start your day & see Bangkok.

“Don't buy the Daily pass”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Found the boats great and fun way to travel, but first day I bought the "tourist" unlimited pass for 150 baht. The express boats (which only come every half hour) charge40 baht a ride and the regular boats (a slightly slower but more fun trip) come every 10 minutes or so and charge only 15 baht a ride. As such you would have to be hopping from attraction to attraction all day to justify the pass. Just get on the boat and pay the lady when she comes around to collect.

“Easy and cheap way to travel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We never used a taxi apart from when going to the airport...we used the express boat to get closer to the key attractions. The prices are really low, boats come frequently. All in all it was safe, fun an quick to get on / offthe boat.

“Untrained and rude staff!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

I always prefer the normal Chao Phraya boat used by the locals as well as the tourists with cheap prices compare to the "Express Boats"! I didn't have good experiences on the express boats. Once when using the express boat, the boat ticket issuer threaten a tourist couple and used a very bad language over a small issue.. You can really enjoy if using the normal boat. Good luck!
