“Charming, if a little overpriced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Set in what looks like an old school building, staying here is like going back in time before Bangkok became modernised. Rather overpriced, and the standard of the breakfast was rather basic, but the rooms were nicely designed and surrounded a nice courtyard.

I agree with other reviewers that this place is hard to find, and I needed to rely on Google maps to guide taxis to it, if they would go at all.

This hotel is hidden in old city, converted from an old building with courtyard, which has a nice garden and ponds. The staffs are friendly and helpful. There are not too many options for the breakfast, but they all taste good (of course, you can get many other options outside at lower price). Conveniently located, within walking distance to the grant palace. The room doesn't look like a regular western style hotel room, but has all the basic components. No curtain in the shower, but this is quite standard in Thailand. It's a bit difficult to find, even for the local taxi drivers.

The hotel is a small converted residential school in the heart of the old city. It is spartan (ie. simple and without luxury) but it is a peaceful and cool oasis. The staff are all young and enthusiastic and it was as if we were the schoolmasters being looked after by the school prefects.

Don't expect too much - the hotel is really only 2 star - but one can have a very relaxing time. Of course, the internet was slow, and the breakfast was mediocre, but then again, for a seasoned traveller who does not expect to be waited on hand and foot, The Balcony Rooms are an excellent place from which not only to visit the typical tourist sites but also to explore the little side streets and get a flavour of the lives of the local people.

Room Tip: Try to avoid any room facing the midday sun

From the outside, the hotel doesn't look like much, but once you come in it's wonderful. The hotel is built around a peaceful courtyard with a fountain and pools. Great atmosphere. The staff was very helpful. Some spoke English quite well, and most could get by reasonably. The food in the restaurant was very tasty. The room was pretty basic. This isn't a luxury hotel, and if you want five-star amenities there are other places to stay. If you really want a great place to relax while you get to know the Thai culture, though, you'll enjoy this hotel.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012 via mobile

Have just booked another night for on way back. Close to main sites but far from main tourist area. Which was great for us. Very quiet and peaceful. Taxis are plentiful anyway. Room was nice and spacious but bathroom had a constant funny smell. Didn't bother to complain as a short stay and everything else was superb! Would highly recommend. Very friendly staff.

I needed a break from staying in cheap accmodation and backpacking. Staying here two nights in my own room turned out to be a lovely scantury! The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely with aircon,TV and snacks. I did have a funny shower, but tolerated it, as everything else was really nice. Great spot to be near the temples! I am going to stay here again! Great value, great service, lovely rooms and hotel!
