This is a stunning hotel with beautiful rooms and common areas, landscaped grounds and a dynamic, modern and stylish vibe throughout. It's also in a fantastic location, smack between Siam Paragon and Siam Center, two of Bangkok's top shopping malls and within walking distance of Central World and MBK, two other very popular shopping centers. The skytrain is also right there so it's really easy to get around almost all the main tourist areas.
The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, in a modern style but without being too hip or edgy or sparse as some over (or under)-designed hotels are. The Thai aesthetic is there but without being over-the-top or too sombre. The King-sized bed was very comfortable but the pillows were all ridiculously soft and provided almost no support. I had to call housekeeping for a firm pillow and they delivered a sad, flattened version that wasn't much better.
The bathroom was also large and spacious and beautifully styled. The wall facing the bedroom is all glass, but there are automatic blinds that you can lower when needed. There's both a very spacious shower stall as well as a freestanding bath. Unlike some hotels where there are no electrical plugs in the bathroom for the hairdryer, there are outlets right by the bathroom mirror so you don't need to run out with wet hair looking for a place to plug your dryer.
However electrical outlets are still scarce in the bedroom -- while there are outlets by the bed, these only accept Thai electrical plugs and aren't universal so you will need adaptors. There are two universal plus in the desk area but these are poorly designed and placed too close together so you can't use two plugs at the same time as they won't fit. If you want to charge your laptop and phone at teh same time, you're out of luck. There's supossed to be an adaptor in the room but there wasn't one.
They have all the other room amenities that a top hotel should have: iron and ironing board, electronic safe, plugged-in flashlight, coffee machine (but oddly, no kettle). Soft drinks and local beer are complimentary and replenished daily.
Service is unfailingly pleasant and polite and gracious, which is almost standard in Thailand. However I think the hotel has some operational issues that aren't the fault of the staff but the hotel management. I had booked a Premier room online and when I checked in, was shown to a room in the Royal wing. After two days there, I remembered that according to the website, a Premier room is in the Garden Wing, where rooms are larger and have more amenities. I inquired at the front desk and when they checked the records, told me that yes I had booked and pre-paid for a Premier room but they had downgraded me into a smaller and cheaper Deluxe room because my sister was staying in the Royal wing and they thought I would want to be in the same floor as her. They had done this without even checking with me or informing me when I checked in! Never mind that the room I paid for was more expensive and that I had already pre-paid for it. When I complained about this, I was offered to be moved to the Premier room but that seemed pointless as I only had a day left in my stay. I asked for a refund of the price difference and was told this was not possible! It was only after I demanded to speak to the duty manager that they agreed to refund me the difference. This was a really big error in their procedures that should not have happened. It's inconceivable that a hotel would downgrade a guest who had prepaid for the bigger room without even informing him. If I had not noticed that I was in the wrong wing, I would have ended up paying over a thousand Thai baht for a larger room that I was never given.
Despite this, I would still stay at this hotel for the luxurious standards and great location. I will just watch what room I am given more carefully!
