“Very Bad Location, but hotel inside is good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

we saw this hotel on agoda and booked after reading all the comments. The hotel from inside is good, neat and clean. also the staff were polite and friendly. We also liked the small kitchen attached inside the room like a studio with few utensil. The only thing which we were disappointing was the location of the hotel. you have to walk through extremely dirty and small lane to reach the hotel. I also had hard time finding it even though i had the whole address with me. On top of that its china town so you cannot speak to people as they themselves give you a blank look anytime you ask them anything. Im sure you can find better hotels for this price. lastly please keep chicken as an option but not just pork for everything!

Using the Trip Advisor reviews we booked 4 nights at the Check Inn, Chinatown. I printed the map from the Check Inn website and on arrival in Bangkok city, we showed it to several taxis at the MRT station. We finally found a driver who knew the way. The photos are deceptive – it is in a small lane off a lane, not a street. But the reception was friendly and the room was fine. Chinatown in any city is dirty with sidewalks crowded with sellers of everything imaginable. We stayed there because of the hotel’s proximity to the textile district. Generally the Check Inn is fine for a budget hotel. The cleaning standard was not high with mirrors dirty from the previous occupants. I feared noise would be a problem and on our last night those fears were realised. An early night for an early start at 0500 was destroyed by the next door room occupants who partied on from 1030 to 0230.
There are some eateries nearby and a Tesco supermarket one block away. The mini-kitchen is great for preparing a simple breakfast. The staff is friendly and cooperative.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of a corridor - hopefully it will be quieter

After spending two mediocre nights at the shoddy Chinatown Hotel, this was a welcome reprieve. Situated off the main road on a typical Bangkok back alley, the hotel has all one could want at a very bargain price. Good service from an attentive front desk, clean room with high quality bedding and towels, and a modern shower/bath with high quality fittings. I had a window in my room overlooking a junky interior courtyard. People complaining about a lack of window should remember they are paying less than $25 for a Bangkok hotel that is not a flophouse, and in a top location. Want a good view? Book at the Conrad for 6x the price!

This hotel is not hard to find. Simply get dropped off at Soi 8 from the main Chinatown street and walk down the seemingly dangerous alley, past the ice vendor, and the hotel is easy to spot from its excellent signage. The hotel is directly across from a Buddhist temple, and is quite safe, though from a Western point of view the location might be scary. I will definitely stay there again if visiting Chinatown.

Room Tip: If you smile and act nice in Thailand, you will always be treated better.

We spent three nights at this hotel this week. My taxi driver had a terrible time finding the hotel despite calling the hotel enroute to it. (So did my tuk tuk driver later in the week). Once there we were pleasantly surprised by the room. The functional layout of the room overcame its compactness. I liked the bathroom which had a separate glassed-in shower area which most of us westerners are accustomed to. No wet toilets! The air-conditioner was cold and wifi signal strong..

The room also came with a kitchenette complete with a stove, refrigerator and sink plus cups, dishes and some silver ware.

Tip: if you have trouble finding the alley the hotel is located in, start going down Thanom Charoen Krung, one of the main arterials through Chinatown and look for Soi 14 on the right side. It is at the end of the alley. Look for a street sign that says "14" on the right hand side.

dining tip: there is a nice dim sum/bakery at the entrance to the alley that is worth checking out. It has decent food and clean toilets!

Room Tip: The hotel was quiet despite being just a block off the main drag through Chinatown. I think all the...
