“Nice place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2011

This is my first review on tripadvisor.com, yay!

I stayed at Penpark Place on 4th October - it was the first place I stayed at on a 5 week long backpacking holiday! I stayed in a single room (fan) with shared bathroom, and paid 300 baht for the night.

Pros:
- Adequately sized room for a single person - furniture included a bed, a small table and a clothes rack.
- Room had a window (thankfully with a mosquito mesh), so it was quite cool at night, even with just a fan.
- Bathrooms were fairly clean
- Nice breakfast in the morning (had to pay extra for it, around 70-80 baht I think)
- Very friendly lady at the counter and they seemed to have a good travel desk too. I didn't use it though
- Great high speed wifi connection
- Very quiet at night, I slept quite well!

Cons:
- Location is a bit far from the main attractions, but it was a trade off in favor of a better price
- No elevator (there was one, but I don't think its been working for quite some time!), so I had to climb 3 floors to my room with my heavy backpack
- No mirror in the room
- Towel and blanket/top sheet were not provided

Unfortunately I'd booked only one night in advance, thinking that if I liked the place, I'd extend my stay. But guess what, they were full for the next few nights, and I was forced to shift to another guesthouse close by (which was even better actually). But if they hadn't been full, I would have happily extended my stay here.

One more thing, its in a little lane OFF Soi Samsen 3 - can be a little tricky to find the first time. If you enter from the main Samsen road, you have to take a left about 150 mts in, just opposite a small coffee shop.

Room Tip: Some rooms have views of the Rama bridge which looks quite pretty at night!

Penpark place was a lovely place to start our journey. Our room was spacious and felt very clean, the view didn't really exist but being able to sit up on the roof top and see the beautiful bridge more than made up for this.

The staff were helpful and were happy to look after our laptop in the safe in reception every time we went out as we didn't want to leave it in the room. Looking back i am sure it would have been fine in the room but it gave us piece of mind knowing it was in the safe. The staff did not enter our room at any point of our 3 night stay but we were happy with this, it just meant we went to them when we needed things such as more toilet roll.

From Penparks website we printed off the thai instructions they provided to get from the airport to the hotel, this was extremely helpful and gave us the reassurance that we would get there. The taxi from the airport cost 450 Baht plus the toll charges we made it 500 baht but it was so simple we really would recommend jumping in a taxi. The location was perfect for what we needed. We enjoy walking and most of Bangkok's main attractions can be walked to if you can handle the heat.

Our only complaint is a very small one and that was the noise, the walls are very very thin and the window didn't lock so could not be shut fully. On the night we arrived there was a massive storm and the rain was hitting the plastic roof outside the window which was making so much noise. We had the aircon on and their was a loud party in the court yard, the noise was so loud. We were then woken up to the sound of the builders in the builders yard just behind the hotel which was also very loud through out the day but as we weren't in our room it didn't bother us. We would definitely recommend Penpark Place and would not hesitate to go back again.

Stayed in a triple room with a/c and attached bathroom. Nice quiet place. Rent was really cheap too. All in all, it was clean and comfortable. We didn't mind the room not being made up daily cos then they didn't have to enter the room. A rather safe place. I strongly recommend this place if you're on a budget, also if you're not on a budget, so you can use the money for other stuff i.e. shopping at chatuchak market...teeheehee

Penpark Place is reasonably priced offering comfortable accommodation. We stayed in a superior double room with a/c and private bath. The room is clean and comfortable. Penpark is conveniently located being a short walk (~10 mins) from Khao San Rd and a reasonable distance from the old city attractions (Grand Palace etc). If you are coming from the airport, the airport express bus AE2 would drop you off near Khao San road which is closeby. It is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Khao San offering a quite stay. Penpark has a nice terrace with a beautiful view of the Rama VIII bridge and the Chao Phraya river. They have put relaxing chairs on the terrace and there is place to dry clothes for those on long stays. Penpark also has parking for private vehicles inside the compund.

We stayed three nights in a twin superior room (en-suite+air-con). Plain and simple (as the entire hotel) but very well cleaned and with comfortable beds. No bathroom complements, each day we had to ask the receptionist for shampoo and soap since the room was never made up.
The location is good, 5 mins from Khao San Rd walking and 20-25 mins from the most important touristic attractions. Many of them can be reached by boats that stop at a pier that’s very near.
What is not good is the access from the airport, there is no direct transportation. The way to get to the hotel by bus offered in their website hasn’t been updated; the bus route AE-2 is no longer operative. It took us 1.5 hs after 8pm to do so by two different bus lines and a 15 mins walk.
Some facilities you can find no further than 400 m from the hotel are two 7-11s, ATMs, restaurants and bars. If you want to enjoy a wonderful view of the Rama VIII Bridge by night, have dinner (expensive) or a drink in the terrace of the restaurant located just round the hotel corner, at the end of Soi Samsen 3.
If you don’t expect much more than cleanliness, a good bed and warm shower, and are on a tight budget, this is an excellent option.

We stayed here for 2 nights in august 2011, the facilities were good and the staff very helpful no complaints about the hotel itself. However we booked a sleeper bus through their tour rep to chiang mai and during the trip several items went missing from my backpack from the luggage store. Obviously there is no way to tell if this was the company security or fellow users sneaking down to luggage store when everyone was asleep. A schoolboy error on my own part by leaving my bag unattended, just be warned to keep your bag with you if using this service.
