“Great Bangkok Stopover Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Paid $40 AUD including airpot transfers on our way to Phuket. Airport transfers went without a hitch - driver on time to pick us up at airport and back in time the following morning to catch plane to Phuket. Rooms are exactly as they appear in pics - very clean and plenty of room, aircon works great (especially in the humid heat of Bangkok). Had a couple of beers by the pool which was very relaxing after our flight. Reception staff very friendly and helpfull. A great place for a stopover.

Stayed in this hotel for one night. Paid about 40$ for a standard room and two way airport transfer. I would give this hotel a 5 if it wasn't for the TERRIBLE service when we arrived. We arrived around 9pm after being delayed an hour on our way to bangkok. Our flight was at 5am the next morning so we wanted to get to the hotel as fast as possible (which is why we booked the airport transfer in the first place). Instead we waited over AN HOUR to leave because we were waiting for other people to arrive. I understand they wanted to save themselves a trip, but being so close to the airport there is no excuse to make us wait an hour when we were an hour delayed already! We almost just went downstairs to a regular meter taxi but they told us 5 more minutes...which really was 15. The hotel is only 10 minutes away!

Getting to the airport in the morning was much more simple, thank god.

As far as the rooms, pretty basic which is fine because it's purpose is really for one - two nights stay TOPS. The place was clean and the pool was nice (didn't go in but it was pretty). Apart from the airport staff, the other staff was very nice. As everyone else mentioned, the no wifi is a big turn off as it's pretty basic to offer free wifi all over Thailand. Even the most remote crappy bars we went to had free wifi...why not the cottage?

Anyway, I would stay again if it was for just one night.

Dear Beta C.,
Thank you for your time to give us a constructive criticism, we really do appreciate it. I must apologize that it has taken me so long to provide you with my feedback. First of all I must apologize on behalf of my airport representative to make you wait such a long time at the airport. First impression is extremely important to us so we try our best to make our airport shuttle transfer as efficient as possible. Our airport representative staffs have been trained to call for the Shuttle driver right away as soon as they pick up anyone of the guest. I am extremely concern about this error and would like to discuss this case with you personally. I can be reached at fom@thecottagebangkok.com. We are glad that you found our swimming pool to be “nice and pretty” I hope to hear from you soon.

We have just stayed at The Cottage on a one night layover in Bangkok. This hotel is very good value for money, and is definitely the best layover hotel we have stayed at within Bangkok. We needed somewhere close to the airport, and somewhere that was clean and comfortable. You do not expect 5 star comfort in a hotel of this class, and it is quite basic in terms of facilities and amenities, however more than satisfactory for a short stay. In fact I would rate it 5 stars for the purpose for which it is designed, being as a value positioned stopover hotel.

The hotel is only one year old, and has somewhat of a boutique feel. I must say that the customer service we received from the staff was excellent. A lot of 5 star hotels could learn a thing or two about customer service from the staff at The Cottage! When we arrived we were given a welcome drink, and we were able to check in even though it was oly 10.30am! Next morning we arranged wake up calls and they were received on time, followed by a follow up call 5 mins before our departure transfer. Checkout was fast and efficient.

The hotel does have a nice sized pool, and a restaurant on site. A couple of suggestions that would improve the experience for guests. There is no mini bar, although room service is available. A mini bar stocked with soft drinks would be good, to save having to go to the trouble of purchasing them outside the hotel. The room could also do with additional power points which were quite scarce! Many of the rooms have a small balcony that overlooks the pool. There are however no chairs on the balcony. A couple of seats on the balcony of each room would allow you to enjoy the view over the pool and the airport beyond.

Another point to note is that wifi  is available, however you need to pay for it. It is not expensive (approx $2.20 per hour) however the connection is poor. In this day and age of free wifi becoming standard in Asian hotels of all levels, I think it would assist the hotel in attracting more guests if they offered a decent quality, free wifi service.

Overall however, this is the best layover hotel we have stayed in within Bangkok and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable very well priced hotel that is only 10 mins from the airport.

Friendly staff with good English, rooms for $30, clean rooms and pool, 50 baht shuttle to the airport. Lots to recommend it, plus a little shopping centre/market just down the road that has at least one quality restaurant (no English on the name, so can't say what it was, unfortunately).

I stayed one night, July 2 12, good pickup service from the airport. And return service as well. Room not huge but clean and has free bottled water. Great for overnight stay. Was quiet and staffed by friendly people.

Myself and my partner stayed at the hotel for two nights and enjoyed our stay. The original room we booked was a pool side access room but when we arrived found out it was double booked ( it seems a very common thing in Thailand happend a few times to us) we got offered the suite room which included two room one with a bed and the other was a front room and still with a poolside views but no easy access to the pool as we wanted! The room service was reasonable but sometimes found it hard to order food because of the language problems. The pool was lovely and enjoyed the beanbags a lot more comfy then a sun lounger! Very clean room and daily room cleaning which also included two free bottles of water very handy!
The only problem I had with the hotel was the WIFI it was not included which was very surprising as i Assume the hotel is used a lot for business stop overs. We stayed in a lot cheaper hotels in central Bangkok and received free wifi even if it was in the lobby areas only. It was very expensive between the two of us we payed an extra £16 for 13 hours of wifi over the two days, could of booked a more expensive hotel and had the wifi included. This hotel is designed for no more then two nights stay I would say as there is not much around to do and for the price could stay somewhere nice nearer to central Bangkok very much a stop over hotel! I would recommend this hotel it they need to change the WIFI problem!

We stayed here for two nights before we got the plane home. When we arrived we were told our room had been double booked however we were upgraded to the grand room free of charge. You get two free bottles of water a day however we were dubious to drink them as they were not sealed. The room itself was very good two spacious bathrooms, numerous towels in different sizes, free shampoo and body wash, two tvs with English channels as well as Thai channels and their con was very good although it did make the room a bit cold so we had to keep turning it on and off. Te bed was very comfortable. The pool was very nice however it stays at 1.2 m the whole length which is annoying. The poolside rooms which we should have had looked bad you had to step from a gate on your balcony over shrubbery and plants to get to the side of the pool. The hotel does not come with free wifi and it is quite expensive to purchase. We ordered room service and the first time it arrived it took ages and ws cold. The sandwich we ordered was a club sandwhich but what we actually got was a piece of fried chicken in bread. If you want an airport transfer you have to add that to the cost of your room which is ok if you are only staying one night however we had to pay extra both nights as there wasn't an option wher you could only pay for it once. The transfer was very quick and smooth having been picked up outside of the hotel and dropped at departures. If we could stay again we probably would not because we would use the extra money we spent on wifi to get a hotel with free wifi as there are quite a lot around.
