“Superb hotel that needs a technology boost”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

First I'll explain my rating system. Every business that I rate starts out with 3 stars. Then if that business exceeds the expectations set by its peers (often a high standard) I give it a 4th star, and if it far exceeds those expectations, then it gets its 5th star (usually in the top 10%).

I wanted to give this property 5 stars, for the following reasons:
- Superb location, with on-premises access to the skywalks
- Beautiful property, excellent amenities and a quiet location, rooms far-removed from the noisy streets. Key-cards are note even required to operate the elevators! HVAC was top-notch.
- Exceptional service. The employees were the real standout here.

However, staying in this hotel is like stepping back in time in regards to network connectivity:
- Wifi data rate was generally quite slow, hundreds of kbps at best
- I could rarely get my iPhone-5 to properly log into the wifi network, and even then with much coaxing. Fortunately, I brought my iPad mini and that logged in just fine and allowed me to make calls via Skype. This hotel is clearly not taking a "mobile-first" strategy for deploying and testing its network or else they'd have discovered this shortfall.
For this reason I deducted one star from its rating, as much as I wanted to give it 5 stars!

I will almost certainly stay at this property next time I'm in Bangkok, and can only hope that management eventually discovers and addresses this important issue.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard/parking lot have great views and are extremely quiet. I can't speak t...

I can't speak of the regular rooms, but I can say that the suite we were upgraded to on the Executive Club Level, (#1816) was fabulous in every respect. The included breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks, and evening cocktails and canapés ensure that you don't have to spend a dime on food and drink during your stay, if you choose not to. The only reason I did not give this five stars is because I reserve that rating for true resorts, but I would return here in a heartbeat, every time!

Room Tip: Any room on the Executive Club Level, particularly the suites.

This is a great hotel! It is very conveniently located next to the sky train and several good shopping centres. The room was good, in particular the bathroom and shower. Very cool with the glass walls. The service was ok, not great. The pool was nice but the water was very cold, even for a Swede like me... If I ever go back to Thailand I could see myself staying here again.

I often stay in Renaissance hotels on business but this was my first stay in Bangkok. This hotel stands out for really great service, always with a smile, everything was easy, directions to places excellent, cars arrived promptly and the room was great, quite big for a large city hotel room! My one gripe was the breakfast buffet was a bit on the thin side (and I am being picky) compared to what I would have expected but as I don't really have a big breakfast it was fine for me - for anyone who really enjoys the breakfast buffet this might be a tad disappointing. I would definitely stay again.

Excellent hotel, with all the amenities that a corporate team would need for conducting conferences, seminars and other official events. Centrally located to all the major shopping hubs of Bangkok, which allows the participants to getaway from the program quickly to indulge in diverse shopping options either in the big malls for branded products or the 24 hr street shopping around the place. With the BTS station located bang opposite to the hotel allows the participants to even venture out to several other tourist attractions around Bangkok easily. The staff is courteous, efficient and friendly. Being a business hotel, one should be prepared to wait to get the rooms allocated to them even if they are reserved in advance as most of the previous occupants are stretching the check out time to the maximum.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less of street noise

This is an outstanding hotel with great service, location and rooms. Unfortunately the rates tend to be high and I wind up booking at the Courtyard for much less. If rates were comparable to Courtyard, this would be my hotel of choice.

Compared to the JW Marriott, Renaissance gives you better value as the rooms are in wonderful condition.

The BTS SkyTrain is just 2 minutes from the hotel front door and from here you have great access to the city.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are awesome - but there is new building construction on the side facing the Royal Bangk...

This is a nice hotel but form comes over function here. Very very busy all the time, staff is nice and professional at reception, but no more than that.
The rooms look cluttered because of the many artful features and colorschemes. We found no toothbrushes and such in the room, but nice quality shampoo and soap though. The reason I think I have to give this hotel an average rate is the flaws (bearing in mind the 5 stars and price); We were told twice at breakfast we didn't have it included in our room, and although the nice lady corrected herself politely at our table five minutes later, this should not happen twice!
There is a very cold covered pool, again nice to look at but not very attractive to have a swim. No service here unless you get it yourself.
The concierge was superficially knowledgable about everywhere you would like to go, but very standard, and when we asked for a good tattooshop just said we could go to KhaoSarn road, which street is of dubious reputation...
When you want to walk to the skytrain or shopping area you have to cross a dirty parkinglot, not very far but a strange feeling walk for such a high-end hotel..
There is a smoking area outside only, covered but hot.
Last but in my opinion the strangest thing were the towels. They were all threadbare, well washed but in no way hotelquality "sheets" of cotton, with actual threads hanging lose. I did not complain to see whether they had better ones, but it certainly puzzled me.
Good things? A great view, very good beds, good restaurants, great breakfast with a nice extra thing brought to your table every morning, and for some people; a great decor throughout the hotel.
For me there will not be a second time, will have another adventure in this neighbourhood next time.
