“Cool Ambiance - Good Beer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

Had passed through this restaurant several times in the past. Last Friday we decided to check it out - not because anybody recommended it (only 1 review in TA!! this will be the second one) but because we saw a huge sign for Stella Artois. We are insanely sick of drinking Singha or Heineken which is what 90% of the restaurant in Thailand seem to carry. Ambiance is cool - has a feel of a jazz or blues bar but not sure if they play any live music there. It has two levels – you can sit outside on the patio next street level. Service is prompt and staff seemed courteous. They carry western and Thai dishes both. We ordered a pizza, which was not bad, and of course the beer. Pint of bear each and a “large” pizza (enough for two) will set you back about $40-$45 or so. I would say that is bit on expensive side but then this Bangkok. Even the local beer is expensive for Thai standards ($6 for 6 pack – Yes!!! in Dollars and yes the cheapest beer in stores – like US prices for what you would pay for 6 pack premium beer ) And foreign one at that – expect to pay similar to what you would pay in high end clubs in US.

There was an error on the bill which they promptly corrected. (This is another helpful tip – always check your bill – it is quite common here that there will be errors if your order even slightly differs from the standard menu by as simple as extra ice or extra sauce)

Having said all of this I wouldn’t mind going there again. It is not a bad place if you are looking to get away from all the go-go bars and beer garden scene in Silom and Sukhumvit area. The restaurant is among a row of five to six bars there on Sarasin Road. “Lumphini Park” sits on the other side of street – an oasis in concrete jungle of Bangkok – sort of like being next to Central park in Manhattan.

“Delicious well prepared food with a fun light hearted atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2010

My partner and I went to Mokka Restaurant (since 1964) in Sarasin Road for the first time. Service was very attentive (but not overbearingly so) and first drinks arrived promptly. We were having a leisurely meal and so the staff were appreciative of that and let us order various dishes until we were finally full.
Good wine list and great cocktails.
Sitting outside is great and if visiting on the weekend during the current winter season then it is a great people watching place with a lively atmosphere from all the nearby bars.
