“BAD SERVICE. RUDE PEOPLE.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2011

My friend I booked a reservation here and we were forced to cancel it before even setting foot in the place. Obviously the one who answered our email does not know the concept of Customer service. He should seriously consider transferring to another industry.

Here's his reply to us when we asked him if there are any money exchange services near their place:

Dear XXXX,

If you have any more questions before we meet, I seriously recommend that you stay in America.

I also recommend that you cancel this reservation.

Most people who stay with us carry the Lonely Planet guides while their traveling and that alone is sufficient for all there information needs.

Baan Hualampong is a basic backpacker guesthouse, and we are wonder why you have so many questions. Honestly, all I do here is make and book rooms, and this is the first time in my life I've received so many questions over the email.

To let you know, I will not be able to answer every single question you pose to me. I am not the Lonely Planet.

If you have too much fear when you come to our guesthouse, and cannot help yourself when you're in Southeast Asia backpacking, we seriously recommend staying in your country.

Fellow America, born and raised.

Best regards,
Tommy Wu

Only stayed one night as we were passing though to Cambodia via Hualampong station. Hotel is easy to find, staff were friendly and expecting us, but despite booking well in advance we had to stay in a building a couple of doors along. The room was large, and averagely clean. Very convenient for the station, good price.

Set in a very charming wooden house, down a side street, just off the incredibly busy main road that splits the guesthouse from the train station - Baan hua lamphong provides a pleasant if not perfect nights sleep.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and despite a mess up with my confirmation (totally my fault) Tommy still managed to get me a spare room ready on half a days notice. The rooms are not refined, spotless, white, generic hotel style by any means, but they are comfy and have plenty of character! The house also boasts a multitude of chill out areas, including a great little rooftop garden, perfect for enjoying a Chang after a busy day in Bangkok.

The metro and train station are on the doorstep so everywhere in Bangkok and beyond is accessible.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SPEAK TO OR LISTEN TO ANYONE OUTSIDE THE TRAIN STATION. GO TO THE WINDOW INSIDE AND SORT WHAT YOU NEED TO SORT. THEY ARE ALL FRAUDS WANTING MINIBUS COMMISSIONS.

Good budget place close to the main "Hualampong" train station in the center of BKK. walking distance to chinatown or the river (where you can get the boat to the get to interesting sites easy).
I arrived very early on the sleeper from the Malay border, short walk to the guest house and no problem to check in early and get a much needed shower and rest! Not the cleanest place, but the rooms and shared bathrooms are ok and the atmosphere is good!

The place itself is quite attractive (although the soi isn't). It looks like an old Spanish Villa. It isn't the cleanest of places. I don't think it actually ever gets cleaned. The beds were made on the first day but not again. I think the bed was the only clean thing there. It could do with a new lick of paint and an actual dusting and cleaning (you know, with soap and water?)! The staff are pleasant enough and the owner likes to sit and watch cartoons :)! I think they take it in shifts so there is always someone available at the desk which is good. There are a few wood louse about too and some loud guests who don't know how to close a door without slamming it!

We booked a double room for one night online. When we arrived the guesthouse,a staff said,"I know you booked a room tonight, but its full today because guests stay longer than we expected, sorry"then he took us to another guesthouse on the same street. We had no choice but to stay a single room since double rooms were full and its already dark outside.I know it is only 570 bahts cheap guesthouse, but they shouldnt accept a reservation if they cant hold it.

Great Basic Guest House. We stayed here at the start of September for one night as a pit-stop before we travelled onwards to Koh Phangnan. As with the last review I booked a room for two people shared bathroom online with a speedy welcoming response. Location was great for our purpose, really close to the Hualampong station where you can get the train to go south to connect to the islands or further north. The gettaway aspect was especially important to us as we did not like BKK unfortunately!

Pros
- Location, see above
- Friendly, jolly staff
- Clean rooms
- Shared shower/toilet suprisingly well kept and clean
- Nice open feel
- informal
- Leave bags for free
- you get bed sheets and a towel!

Cons
- Better value for singletons more then couples 270baht for single person room
- website needs some updating

Would reccomend this for backpackers and non backpackers looking for a convienant location to the station and as a base for exploring BKK. Metro is next door to rail station where you can easily connect to other districts of BKK and the sky train.
