“Away from the maddening crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

We are a couple in our 50's, fit and energetic but could only cope with 3 or 4 hours in the craziness of Bangkok with its heat, crowds and traffic. So it was really nice to escape all of this each day and relax by the pool for a couple of hours before enjoying an hour or so of complementary cocktails and canapes in the club lounge. From the lounge on the top floor we watched the lights of Bangkok come on. No need for dinner. Recommend a club room and this hotel in general and suggest shopping around for a good deal.

Dear Adele - thank you so much for your review. I enjoyed reading it especially the part on watching the evening sunset and the lights come on from our lounge.
Looking forward to welcome you back to stay with us!

We started our trip to Thailand on 26th April 2013 by staying for two nights at this well positioned hotel. It has to be stated that after eleven and half hour flight plus another hour and half spent in a taxi getting to the hotel, the "smiling Thai" welcome which one reads a lot about on Tripadvisor was well and truly lacking. We had booked a double bed room but were quite abruptly informed by the receptionist that there were none available and we will have to do with twin beds but were offered upgraded on payment of extra monies. After further discussions we were informed that there was a double bedroom available on 8th floor. Having no further option and not wanting to pay any additional monies we accepted the room offered which overlooked the pool, river and the city but had a few shortcomings such as some of the lights were not working, door lock malfunctioning and the overall state of the carpet which either needed a good wash or replacement. These matters were brought to the attention of Director of Rooms the following day. The Director, a real gentleman, was most understanding, apologetic and promised to put things right. Things just improved from here on. Thank you Mr. Napawan!
We completed our holiday in Thailand by returning to Chatrium on 6th May 2013 for further two nights stay and were personally met by Mr. Napawan who checked us in, accompanied us to our room which we had been upgraded to and checked that all was OK. The suite was excellent with beautiful views both at day and night (see photos attached). The restaurant staff are excellent, charming and most welcoming. Our thanks go to them for looking after our needs. The food and beverages available are of excellent quality and standard.
I fully agree with comments made by other reviewers as to location of the hotel which has easy access to the river express services, Sky Train, town bus services and taxis. The availability of 7/11 mini supermarket, which is open 24 hours 7 days per week, within the Chatrium “complex” is an added bonus.

Room Tip: Higher floors with river views!

I stayed in one bedroom suite for 2 nights. I agree that views of the river are very nice, but service qualities are quite far from the word luxury. The suite lay-out is modern and appropriate but it is dusty. I found hair of previous guest in the bathroom and also a litter on the bed-side desk. Breakfast buffet is average and not so many choice. The service is not professional, staff are not trained to serve. I can see many staff talk with each others instead of serving hotel's guest. Overall, although it was not perfect experience, the price of this hotel is reasonable if compare with how much I spent and what I got (suite, view and breakfast). I still recommend this hotel and hope those mistake will be solved soon.

I am terribly sorry we have not met your expectations in regards to our service standards and the cleanliness of your suite and for this , please accept my most sincere apologies. I am happy to advise that in light of the on-going comments about the cleanliness of our rooms and suites, we have appointed a new Executive Housekeeper K Kittiwong who , we are sure will make the necessary changes to ensure our housekeeping department meets our guests expectations.
May I also thank you as, despite the problems you experienced, you have highlighted the fact that our pricing points are very reasonable, and that you will recommend us to others and again, for this, thank you very much.
Please, when you are next planning to travel to Bangkok, please contact me directly as it would be a pleasure to demonstrate the changes we will make to our service and cleanliness.

Best wishes

Me and my girlfriend recently stayed in this hotel and because it was her birthday we received a free upgrade to one of the suites, and even if we hadn't, this still would've been a 5/5 for me. Cleanliness was second to none, the staff were friendly and helpful and the included wifi was fast. The location was good too - it was roughly an hour from Suvarnabhumi Airport but in a meter taxi that was only 300bt (around £6). The hotel offers a free river shuttle to the central pier every 15 minutes and from there you can jump on the BTS Skytrain and get almost anywhere. We used taxis because they're so cheap and it's made easier because they have someone on hand all day to call you a taxi ASAP.
We had dinner in both the River Barge Restaurant (ground floor) and the Silver Waves (top floor) and they were both very good. The silver waves is a Chinese restaurant whereas the River Barge has all sorts, more Western foods which was good. The service was fantastic at both and the pool bar was also good. We used the swimming pool a couple of times and it was great too: big, clean and with nice views.

If I ever go back to Bangkok, I'll be staying here.

i was upgraded at a small cost to a river view room on the 32nd floor..o what a stunning view..lovely clean room.. all staff were excellent, helpful and spoke good english..superb breakfast with so many choices from indian, asian, english etc etc...
i booked hotel through asia web direct at a greatly reduced room rate.. room has small kitchenette, microwave etc.
my only tip is to check out mini bar costs before you indulge as there is a seven eleven store 50 metres away but you can only buy alcohol there from 11 am until 2pm and then from 5pm until midnight

Room Tip: river view rooms capture all the river activities and also the night views of part of the city skyli...

We stayed at the Chatrium in December 2012 and generally had avery pleasant stay. As with others whio have reviewed in Tripadvisor, we were encouraged to take an upgrade to a room with a better view, which probably did make the stay better. We had a suite which was very spacious and had a great view over the river.

We liked the setting of the hotel, the open feel about it and the generally friendly staff. The breakfast area had very pleasant outside eating which was good for the late December time in Bangkok and the choice at breakfast was good, but not as wide as we have experienced elsewhere.

The proximity to the river is great but to get to the temples, Grand Palace and other places of interest you have to travel to the terminal on the hotel boat, which only runs every half hour during the day, and the have to wiat under a traffic bridge in a crush of people to catch your ferry. This is quite taxing and can take some time. Because the hotel is more of a resort than a tourist hotel, it is not close to main shopping centres and this does require an effort and some time to achieve, particularly if you want to get to Sukhumvit area at busy times. It is well located however in relation to the new riverside night markets (about 500m walk or go by ferry) where there is plenty of good food and other shops.

The hotel is very popular with Europeans at Christmas and the pressures on the limited space and seating around the pool are great and good manners were not always on display.

For our purpose at that time the hotel was fine, but potential guests should consider what the prime purpose of their Bangkok trip is going to be..

Room Tip: Go high, get a corner suite that overlooks the river.

I love this hotel, we have stayed here on a number of occasions & are never disappointed- staff are friendly & helpful we always get an upgrade its like a real home from home with 5 star service.
Happy hour cocktails on the top floor are perfect while watching the sun set over Bangkok.
There is a ferry to take you over the river they run every 10/15 mins.
Food is delicious & a very good wine list.
It's hard for me to find any fault with his hotel.
Would never stay anywhere else it's like coming home.

Room Tip: Sometimes taxis are reluctant to take you back to the hotel because of traffic during rush hour so g...

Appreciate the five star ratings and the wonderful review of your stay. The sunset view from the lounge is indeed something. I will inform our F&B director of your positive comment on the wine list. Wine package is available during our nightly Wow Buffet Dinner too at River Barge.

Once again, thank you for the review!
